Those branches on the right were so weighted down by snow, they were touching the porch roof as well as the roof over our bedroom. By the time I took this picture they had revived. In fact, you can see the snow falling off the branches in this photo. That was a constant yesterday – no matter where I stood, I got smacked by heavy, falling snow.
Rescue arrived yesterday in the form of Doug and Rick. Rick checked in on me yesterday morning, saying that Doug had just purchased a battery operated chain saw that he was dying to use. In turn, I texted a picture of the huge limb, as I was skeptical that his chain saw could handle it. Undaunted, they came over and Doug immediately started in on the limb and darned if he didn’t do it! Rick and I carried wood to the wood pile, which is now the size of the Great Wall of China, full as it is of various limbs that have fallen off our trees during the 12+ years we’ve lived here.
My heart breaks every time it happens.
Rick even brought me a homemade muffin, that sweetie. Anyway, in no time it was all gone. Now I have to shovel that area this morning to make room for Don’s car. I was too tuckered out to do it yesterday.
Sinuses and/or allergies are crazy right now. I sneezed at least 30 times last night – and no, I’m not exaggerating. It was the strangest thing!
One of you – I’m sorry, I can’t remember who since this whole week has been overwhelming – asked where I keep the shelves that house my miniature pottery.
This little area is to my left as I sit here at the desk.
The embroidered picture of Scout is from Shanna. The Claudia program is from the original 1940s Broadway production Β and was a gift from a friend who runs an antique shop. I found the shelves at Heidi’s shop when I worked there and I brought them home and painted them, covering the glass behind the shelves with toile scrapbook paper. The Michigan license plate (in honor of my home state) is from Don.
Thanks for all your kind words yesterday. It’s been a helluva week. Shoveling, recycling and a trip to the grocery store are on the docket for today.
Happy Friday.

How lucky you are to have such nice neighbors. Good luck with your shoveling duties today. Last year on this date we had flowers blooming and trees were leafing out…..what the heck!!! I blame it on Trump! Hope you have a wonderful weekend.
Claudia says
Mother Nature is telling us to impeach him, Jan. Or else!
Jan Wells says
Exactly what I was thinking!

Linda @ A La Carte says
So glad your friends live nearby now and were able to help. I know Don must worry about you alone at home during a storm. Hang in there, get the work done and rest. You have a Broadway opening to attend soon! Hugs!
Claudia says
And I have to find something to wear! xo
Susan says
I hope today is a better day and that you get to feeling better. Spring cannot be too much further away.
I would love to see a better shot of your wall pockets. I have a McCoy owl wall pocket that I love.
Happy Friday.
Susan
Claudia says
Too hard to get a shot of them, I’m sorry to say. The desk is right there to my right and I can’t get in there. If I ever can, for some reason, I’ll post it.
Dottie says
Thank heavens for good friends! You have had quite a week. Hopefully, the old saying “If March comes in like a lion, it will go out like a lamb” is true. You sure deserve a lovely spring.
Claudia says
I sure hope it’s true, Dottie! I’m over this crap. And they’re talking about snow on Monday. Please. NO.
Kay says
Good neighbors are priceless. One less thing to worry about now. Take it easy on your back when shoveling that heavy wet stuff.
Claudia says
I will. Couldn’t do much today as it had hardened. I’ll just have to wait for it to melt.
shanna says
So glad you had help with that fallen limb! And I loved seeing your sweet corner of the office and reconnecting with the Scout embroidery. The tiny vases are amazing, especially when they can be displayed together, as you have them.
Claudia says
I think it’s the only way to display them. Otherwise, they’re too tiny!
Donnamae says
So happy to hear Doug and Rick were able to lend a hand…or should I say chainsaw. What a blessing! Now, on to more important things…opening night and your dress. Good luck on that front…you do know we will be right there with you in spirit. Hope the snow melts quickly! ;)
Claudia says
It’s hard to find the time to look. They’re aren’t many stores around here, so any shopping trip would involve a drive and the snow has been keeping me from doing that.
Janet in Rochester says
Wow. So glad you were able to clear up the tree branch so quickly. You don’t need me to tell you, but you have GOOD friends. That’s terrific. Get some rest today if you can. Peace.

And then to top it off, I drove to our transfer facility – where we recycle – and who should pull up behind me? Rick and Doug.
kathy says
glad you had help (and a muffin) from friends during that awful storm. hope today is easier for you all.
kathy in iowa
Claudia says
It’s easier but I’m awfully tired.
Wendy T says
Superheroes Rick and Doug! One doesn’t need a cape when one has a chainsaw and muffins!
Claudia says
Exactly! So glad they’re here!
Nancy Blue Moon says
I’m so glad that Rick and Doug came to your rescue Claudia…Doug was probably thrilled that he was able to try out his new chain saw!
Claudia says
He was. He hadn’t had an opportunity to use it yet!
Melanie says
Hooray for Rick and Doug! We are snowless here in IL and lots of sunshine, but it is still so darn cold. Only high in the low 30’s. Even Tim asked me the other day, “When is it ever going to warm up again?” lol But still…I’m sorry you’re having to deal with all that wet, heavy nastiness.
It was me that asked where your shelving of miniatures was. I love it there in your little office space. So charming and cheerful.
Claudia says
It’s still damp and cold today. I’m so, so over it!
Thanks for reminding me it was you!
tammy j says
I love seeing little Buddy’s smiling face there! he just brightens my day.
and aren’t Rick and Doug just the BEST!!!
friends like that go the extra mile. it’s priceless.
and they’re such fun to be around too!
I hate our ice storms (we’ve managed to miss them this year) and the tornadoes … because I’m a tree lover down to my toes. and they always bear the brunt of the damages. hope you get to relax this weekend! xo
Claudia says
I am always heartsick when one of our trees is damaged, Tammy. Thanks!
Marilyn says
Glad Rick and Dan could help you. Our bushes drop down when the snow is too heavy and bounce up when the snow melts. Relax over the week end. Watch a good old movie on TCM.
Marilyn
Claudia says
Thank you, Marilyn!
Nancy says
I hope you were done with everything by the time “To Kill A Mockingbird” came on last nite on TCM. Don’t know how many times this was for me, but it never gets old!
Claudia says
I didn’t see it. I own about 3 copies, so I can watch it anytime I want to, but I find I have to be in the right mood to handle the emotions it evokes! Glad you saw it. You’re right – it never gets old!
Chris K in Wisconsin says
So great to have Knights in Shining Armor in the neighborhood!! Along with a muffin! Wonderful that the limb got cleaned up so quickly ~ although I’m sure it didn’t seem to be a quick job as the three of you powered through it. I am also wishing and hoping you don’t get snow next week as my daughter and a friend are heading into NYC on late Monday.
Hope you were able to accomplish your to-do list today. Can you head into the city a day or two early to shop for a dress before the opening? Hopefully you are in jammies and resting at this time of night. Be careful shoveling that yuck tomorrow.
Claudia says
I’m thinking we won’t get snow – or it will be snow showers. Fingers crossed!
I might head into the city on Tuesday morning. That would give me two days to shop!
Maureen Nigro says
I keep forgetting that you’re a Michigan native! I grew up in Union Lake (no longer on the map) and now live in Warren, MI. What part did you live in when you were here?
Claudia says
I grew up in Dearborn, went to school in Ypsilanti, then lived in Birmingham and Detroit before I moved away for Grad School.
Maureen Nigro says
Cool! I work very close to Birmingham. Love the Mitten!
