• Another glorious sunset. Our house faces west, so as I sit in my chair or go about my business in the living room, this is what I see.
• Trip plans: We’re heading out tomorrow morning. Cannot wait. I’m currently plotting a route down to Florida that avoids the hell that is the Washington D.C. area and, instead, takes us through some beautiful country – courtesy of my Facebook friends. As I looked at the map today, I got those anticipatory butterflies that I get when I am about to explore and see something new.
When I was on the road more, especially when I worked for a theatrical touring company, I loved to explore whatever city I was in. I’m always up for getting out, walking around, exploring, and learning new things. Dallas; Cedar Falls, Iowa; Owensboro, KY; Gainesville, FL; Ft.Lauderdale, FL; Birmingham, AL; Charleston, SC – just a few of the places I was able to explore when I was on the road for a few days here and a few days there. Often, I had to pick up a car rental and drive many miles from the airport to the theater and I’d explore along the way.
Don loves car trips. It will be fun.
• Yesterday. This arrived….
I know. I succumbed again.
It’s a double bud vase in the Clematis pattern. Need I say that it was a great score on eBay? It was.
The other side. Isn’t it beautiful? Several Roseville patterns have their own version of this double bud vase. As crazy about Roseville as I am, I can see collecting all of them.
Stop me.
There it is on the shelf; though I’ve since changed it out with the basket that Barbara sent to me. The double bud vase is now in the china cabinet in the den. I can see it from my blogging chair.
I may change that. We’ll see.
Can one have too much vintage pottery? My short answer: No.
• My over-wintering geranium is blooming again! This little experiment was a complete success. I’ve been watering all the plants so they’ll be nice and moist while we’re gone. Even the succulents got a dash of water.
• Blogging Etiquette Question: Am I the only one who gets irritated when I see posts from bloggers where lots of photos are taken directly from a post on another site/blog? It seems wrong to me. Yes, they usually link back to the original source, but if they’re basically taking all the photos from the original post, who is going to click the link? (And often the name of the original blog is hidden – you have to click through to find out who it was.)
It seems a bit like cheating. The blogger gets a post out of it without doing any of the work. Not quite fair, I think. Though perhaps the photos get a wider audience? Still, it doesn’t sit right. Far better, in my humble opinion, to say something like, “You should see this wonderful home or apartment or miniature or whatever that I saw elsewhere – here’s the link.” And then the original poster gets the hits, which is the way it should be.
Just wondering. It’s been bugging me a lot lately.

If you are staying off I-95 through Virginia, maybe you will have the immense pleasure of seeing the Piedmont from US 29, or the Shenandoah Valley from I-81/US 11 (that would be my choice), but do enjoy every minute of your road trip, have a lot of fun, eat a lot of different food, bask in the sunshine. Lots of fun places to stop along the way. You could make 3 days out of just getting to Florida!
I think that’s what we’re going to do, Dana. Three days.
Claudia, I am so excited for you. I love road trips also. The fun of seeing new things, stopping to enjoy the view and finally getting to your destination! I am so in love with all the amazing Roseville you are finding. I bid on one the other day but it went higher then I was comfortable with so no sale. I still look. I recently added a couple of pottery flower frogs to my collection that make me happy. I’ll have to do a post on them soon. Take care on the trip and big hugs to you and Don.

There are several pieces that I stopped bidding on for that same reason. I only want a great deal! We’re thinking, suddenly, of leaving later today because it’s a gorgeous day and we feel well rested.
That’s the fun of a trip like this you can leave when you are ready!! This lucky Grandma has a date with Tiger! He will spend the night and tomorrow morning with me. I must buy some ice cream because certain things are a must at Grandma’s house!

We stayed completely off I-95 a few years ago, when we drove down to Charleston. We had an amazing drive down the Outer Banks instead of the quicker trip down the big road. We take those back roads whenever possible.
I just celebrated my 9th year in the land of blog. Good or bad, I’ve used my own photography. Once in a while I used a photo from a furniture business site, with full credit, when I changed up a room or ordered something. I much prefer seeing the bloggers original work.
We may take that route along the Outer Banks on our way back home, Pat. I want Don to see Charleston.
I agree, I prefer seeing original work on a blog.

Fort Pierce (south of Vero Beach, north of Ft. Lauderdale) has a farmer’s market every Saturday that is famous through much of eastern Florida. My daughter said that folks come from as far away as Miami! There’s jazz and oldie’s bands, good food, crafts, plants and veggies to purchase. If you are looking for something a bit different on a Saturday morning, Google it.
Have a safe trip, and our door is always open to travelers if you want to swing by along the way.

Hi Claudia, I hope you have a wonderful trip! I have been itching to hit the road again with my sisters. Our favorite thing to do is hit as many thrift stores as we can along the way.
I completely agree with you about the blogs. I just don’t quite see how grabbing all of your photos from other blogs or websites and then calling that your own “blog” can be right?
Anybody can go in and take a bunch of pictures from other places, and that surely is not original content, nor a true “weblog”.
It’s more like “Hey, look at what I found on the internet while sitting at my computer!”. It certainly DOES seem like cheating to me, as well.
And yet a lot of people are reading those types of blogs! So I guess that’s what people want?
I don’t know.
But I do love yours, and the fact that it’s all original, all your own photos (oh, how I WISH I could take better photos!), and all YOU.
(And we LIKE you, we really, really like you….)

I hope you and Don have a wonderful and safe trip Claudia. And I don’t blame you for wanting to avoid Washington DC. Those interstates scare the crud out of me when I go visit Mandy. I love to take road trips where we can just take our time and stop at whatever takes our fancy. Although with hubby still working, we usually make a beeline for wherever our final destination is.

I hope you do get to travel via the Outer Banks on a bit of your trip. When we were married in the summer of 1972, we were poor college students, but decided that is where we wanted to go once summer school ended. We packed up our little car and drove off. We arrived in Washington D.C. on a summer Saturday evening in the midst of a huge peace march. Oh, the traffic and the people!! We desperately needed gas, and I remember we had to pay 44 cents a gallon and were shocked at that high price. So we only bought about 75 cents worth and traveled on to find a more reasonable price. ? We have been back to the OB several times since then, but no trip has been more memorable since that first one.
I know you will have a wonderful time. Each road trip we take seems to consist of many stellar moments and gives us years of memories. Safe travels and have a fantastic time!

I wish you and Don a wonderful time on your much deserved trip to some place warm. I have been thinking about you the last few days as we are now dealing with the rapid decline of our much loved 16 year old cat. We took him to the vet yesterday and are trying some things to see if it makes a difference, but sadly it doesn’t seem to be making any progress. We will most likely have to put him to sleep soon. Our hearts are having a very hard time dealing with it as I know you understand.

I hope you have a wonderful road trip. To answer your question…no you can NEVER have enough vintage pottery. If it makes you happy and you love just looking at it, buy it. I collect vintage Quimper…my downfall but what the heck. I have a lot only yellow pieces though, you have to draw the line somewhere! Enjoy the vaction.

So glad to hear you’re driving to FL rather than flying. Should be a lovely trip even though there won’t be too much greenery until you get to the deep South. My parents drove to Florida and back for their honeymoon in October 1955 and told stories about it to us for the rest of their lives. You miss SO much when you fly over it – there’s a lot to be said for taking the slow, scenic route. I predict you and Don will have some wonderful conversations too. You can say more when in a car together than you maybe would at home when both are often occupied with different projects much of the time. And of course, it’s nice to just be “comfortably silent” with someone as well. Have a great time getting there… ?

Our local paper, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, had a nice feature story on Pat Conroy’s funeral yesterday. The Citadel was mad at him for years after “Lords of Discipline” but got over it and invited him to speak at graduation in 2001. During his speech he invited all the 2001 graduates to come to his funeral. They came in droves yesterday and were given seats directly behind the family members.
