We’ve been working outside on these rain-free days. Don mowed the lilac side of the lawn yesterday and I pulled lots of weeds. I need to weed whack but I have to do it sparingly as my hand continues to heal. Anyway, we took about a half hour to sit on the glider and gaze on our property and remind ourselves how lucky we are to live here . It is so beautiful this time of year – so much green!
The view from the glider.
I decided to use only one of the Adirondack chairs this summer. We rarely use both of them at the same time and getting around them on our way to the glider is difficult. So, the other one is in the shed until we need it. I’m surprised how much all the impatiens have grown since I potted them with one hand a couple of weeks ago. They’ve really taken off.
Those are roses poking through the porch railing on the left. That glider was something Don picked up on the street way back when we were living in San Diego. I think he paid $25 for it. We’ve used it on the porch there, on the lawn in our rental house in Westchester, and on the porch here. It’s rusty and the paint has flaked off and I love its weathered look.
The secret garden needs to be mowed but it’s been very wet around here. The wild phlox is blooming all over the property. That’s an old street sign from our days in San Diego. It doesn’t really belong in the secret garden, so I’ll move it soon.
Today, some more chores outside.
Stay safe.
Happy Monday.
Elaine in Toronto says
Your porch is very welcoming, Claudia. Do you sit on the glider and read? Have a great Monday. Hugs, Elaine
Claudia says
Sometimes. But our road is very busy, therefore noisy, so I usually on do it on an early Sunday morning.
Stay safe, Elaine.

And what a heavenly view it is. Such a beautiful big porch with its stone floor. Hope you get to spend many happy hours on it this summer.

what a pretty view! and porch! so glad for you and don to have it and that you can enjoy time out there each day.
i think the street sign belongs in the garden if that’s where you want it!
and that hauling the glider from california was 100% worth it!
could i use any more exclamation points today? yes … haha! because i know this is more of your favorite season/weather and it’s here and i am glad for you. enjoy every minute!
in the last week i’ve finished “a gentleman in moscow” and that decorating book with lots of inspiring photos (and some words). also read the first book in the “little house on the prairie” set (a gift to me from my family a couple Christmases ago). grateful to be reading again! claudia, i give you a lot of credit because you talked about the “war and peace” read-along and i think i needed a challenge that was doable … and it was (is) a brilliant book that ended a sad bookless drought for me … so thank you again.
stay safe, too, everyone.

I know you love sitting on your porch…and what a porch it is. That stone floor, the plants, the view, they all make for a relaxing space. What is that sign in the secret garden? Is that new? I don’t remember seeing that before.
Enjoy your porch today. ;)
Claudia says
I mentioned it in the post, Donnamae. An old street sign from the corner we lived on in San Diego.\

I like the natural look of your secret garden. It looks like a lovely spot to relax.
I worked outside a bit yesterday planting flowers in my pots and window boxes. The heat wore me out! Be careful working outside, Claudia!
Stay safe.

Thanks, Ellen.

I’d love to sit on your porch and visit a bit. It’s lovely and the stone floor adds alot of character. I’ll pass on sitting in the secret garden though…it looks inviting but I can just imagine being eaten by mosquitoes there! I’m slowly getting weeding done and some flowers planted. It’s a major chore for me though. I hate every minute of it. It’s the results I enjoy.
Take care
Claudia says
No mosquitoes right now.
Stay safe, Marilyn.

The view from the glider is lovely. And so is he view from the Adirondack. I know what you mean — those things are super heavy. And your secret garden is a gem. Rick’s opening the cottage as I write and I’m eager to get north.
Happy weekend!
Claudia says
Oh, this starts my seasonal cottage envy! Are you going up this weekend?
Stay safe.

Gliders are wonderful – my granny had one on her screened porch and I would sit on the floor in front of her and get my hair braided and then get to sit on the so much more comfortable glider cushions. The only other one I ever saw was on a friend’s mom’s porch and I wanted it badly but was out of town when they had a big house clearance sale – should have spoken up before hand! Remorse!

I love gliders – they remind me of my childhood, too.

Your porch looks beautiful and so inviting. I hope to get some planting done soon. But, spring comes late and winter comes early where I live. I am just happy that it is not January.
Best Wishes,
Kaye

I don’t blame you!
