Vintage Black Friday

November 27, 2009 at 1:05 am by Claudia

Well, we’ve come to the last Vintage Black Friday. It has been such fun. I want to thank Jill at Gypsy Brocante for hosting this weekly party. And stop by her blog for a list of everyone participating.

I had to dig deep to find something for this last VBF. The well appeared to be dry…but then I found these:

The books on either end were my Dad’s textbooks when he was attending Cass Technical High School in Detroit in the 1940’s. I keep these on top of my hutch in the den. The one on the left is a book on electrical wiring.

His name is written on the inside cover with the year 1940. My Dad was always great with anything to do with repairs, wiring, building – you name it. Apparently, all those classes paid off!

The little book in the middle is a faded copy of The Taming of the Shrew.

A friend of ours gave us this little leather bound copy many years ago.

I hope everyone has a great Friday – and Happy VBF!

Ahhh, there is something so amazing about vintage books!!! I adore them! You always have a beautiful, meaningful story to go with your item and I love that so much! It must be wonderful to have so many pieces with a personal history!

    Oh Claudia…
Thanks for sharing sweetie. I so love these books. The electrical wiring of your Daddy’s is just precious. You know you find yourself running your hands over the book, just to feel him there, and to wonder what was he learning about today as he sat in class?

The Taming of the Shrew is a great treasure and then to have received it from a friend.

I love them both sweetie, and thank you for sharing with me today.

    Country hugs…Sherry

Love these books — esp the sentimental ones from your Dad! Crazy about your sign, too–I loved Tina’s, too (and I REALLY want her Butter slab)! Hope you had a peaceful and wonderful Thanksgiving and birthday :)

What neat books…your family was so good at preserving treasures! I’ve enjoyed all your VBF posts…black is one of my favorite colors…some argue it isn’t actually a color but I disagree:)

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
