Vintage Pottery in Orange

May 14, 2010 at 9:35 pm by Claudia

As I was exploring Old Towne Orange, I came across an antique shop that had a treasure trove of vintage pottery.

This showcase was full of Bauer Pottery – one of the great California Pottery companies. Bauer used colors that were in the same range as Fiesta. You can see the famous Bauer rings on some of the pieces. Fiesta also had rings but they were sharper, more angular. One of Don’s friends here in San Diego has a big collection of Bauer Pottery.

Brown Eyed Susan by Vernon Kilns. I include this photo because these are the dishes my Mom used every day when we were kids. I am always delighted when I see a set. I spoke to a man working in the shop and he said they were getting harder and harder to find.

Some Fiesta and Harlequin. I used to have an extension collection of vintage Fiesta in the original colors. I eventually sold all but a few pieces as my taste changed. I still love to see it, though.

Some Fiesta, some Bauer and some Roseville.

Be still my heart – a beautiful Featherweight. I’ve written before about how much I want one of these beauties.

I had to take a photo of this beautiful vintage stove. Love the colors, of course, but I really love it because my husband’s last name is Sparks! Now wouldn’t this be perfect in our cottage?

Only bought one little thing – this vintage tin:

This is a 91st anniversary tin issued by Avon in 1977, honoring its start as the California Perfume Company. I don’t collect Avon products, but I’ve seen tins like this on a few blogs. I love the graphics and the colors are my favorites. So when I saw this, I snapped it up. It may go in the studio when I get home.

I have lots of suggestions for the Koala’s name…I’ll share them with you next week. I saw him twice today.

Have a wonderful weekend!

I never liked any of the Avon fragrances, but their containers were always very cute and unique. And ROSEVILLE POTTERY!! Simply to die for… I only own one vase because I simply can’t afford the stuff.

It’s too bad that stove won’t fit in a carry-on… it would be so perfect in your cottage– I could see it on a porch with a vintage coffee pot sitting on top with flowers in it.
Loved the pottery… I love Bauer pottery. I have my grandmother’s aqua Bauer cassarole with the brass frame w/original candle (also pottery). Love it!~

    HI CLAUDIA,
MEMORIES…..WE HAD A STOVE VERY SIMILAR TO THE ONE IN YOUR POST.
IT REPLACED THE BLACK IRON COAL STOVE THAT WAS IN OUR KITCHEN.
SUCH LOVELY FINDINGS, THEY HAVE NICE ANTIQUES SHOPS WHERE YOU ARE. RIZZI

Such a great shop!!! The little Featherweight looks just like mine. My dad has his mother’s, only it is white. The stitches come out so perfect that I got rid of my newer machine!
I’m thinkin’ they should just ship the Spark stove on over to your cottage for free, Claudia, since it has you hubby’s name on it! :)
Hope you have a lovely weekend,
    Zuzu

Hi Claudia! Thanks for the virtual shopping trip. I too am in love with that Featherweight! And the stove, oh my what a cutie!! I’m glad you got to see the dishes your mom used when you were kids. I love childhood memories, it’s like being wrapped up in a cozy quilt.

I hope that things are going well for you and that the time passes as pleasantly as possible!!

    Love,
    Susan and Bentley

Susan, I love this colorful post! I don’t know how you resisted those blue pots in that luscious color! This whole post is so pretty.

I love your tin! I love that combo of colors, and I think that will be perfect for your nest.

My grandmother had a sewing machine like the one you pictured there, and I don’t know who ended up with it. I wish I had it. Maybe then I might take up sewing which I desperately need to have done here.

Can’t wait to hear about the bear’s name! I just saw “Bentley” above, and liked that, too!

    Hope you’re having a great weekend…

    XO,

    Sheila :-)

For new (reproductions, but nice) Bauer pottery, the website is here: http://www.bauerpottery.com/
and they sell it at the gift stores of the Rancho Los Alamitos (Long Beach California) and the Museum of the West (or whatever it’s exactly called) near the Los Angeles Zoo.

    Hi Claudia!

Caught up on your posts and it looks like you are enjoying some time out having a little shopping therapy. Good! LOVE the tin (have one just like it) and that little Koala is too sweet. How about naming him Sweet Pea or Pea for short.

Sending you a ((hug)) from No. Cali,
    Becky

I’ve been having fun catching up with you Claudia… :-)

Love the peonies too….I had some, but sadly they have passed on. I’m trying to talk a friend out of a few of her delish pink ones. …Hopefully, she’ll give in?

I have that same tin…I bought it years and years ago and still have the box too. It sure didn’t seem like 1977, but time does fly, doesn’t it?

Your vintage finds were great. I’ve never seen tiny clothespins like those and the eggcup was sooo cute. And, perfect colors for you too.

    Huggies,
    Spencer

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
