Could these little volunteer impatiens be any more charming? They have flourished in the shade provided by the little wooden bench.
But they’re popping up in other little nooks and crannies, as well.
It’s as if Mother Earth has decided a delightful surprise is in order. (And believe me, I can use a delightful surprise.)
Every time I look out the kitchen door (which is often since it leads to the dog corral) I get to feast my eyes on these little pretties.
Oh lord, it’s been so HOT here. Endless blazing sun. Everywhere we go, we see huge patches of brown grass, the rivers are really low – we desperately need some rain. Late yesterday afternoon, while the sun was still shining, there was one of those impromptu summer rains. It didn’t last all that long, but any moisture is welcome at this point.
Thanks for all the responses to my “Meticulous Housekeeper” post. For me, it’s the dusting that I neglect. I swiffer and vacuum every day, the kitchen is always picked up, especially since the kitchen and the living room are really one big space. But dusting? I avoid it until I have to. And I’m allergic to house dust, so what’s preferable? Leaving the house dust alone or stirring it up with a duster? Hmmm.
Yesterday I was scheduled for two posts: a TLC book review and a post about beautiful Connecticut in conjunction with BlogHer and Connecticut Tourism. Make sure you visit both of these posts. I’m giving away a copy of the book I reviewed. And if you leave a comment on the Connecticut Tourism post, you win a chance to win $1000 to help plan your trip to that lovely state!
Have a lovely Thursday.

It is just amazing me on how well our plants are doing! We are badly in need of rain also. Can only water all the beds only so much. Luckily a lot of our plants are established, so they do fare better then the newer plants. It spit here a few days ago and boy were we glad to see that! We still don’t see rain in the forcast. We are lucky if we have gotten 2 inches in the last month and a half. So I feel your pain. I love your volunteers!

I love impatiens. I could not get them last year and so I planted petunias. Well, I fell in love with petunias. I have petunias again this year but I waited so long to transplant them that they won’t be as full as they were last year. I only have purple flowers this year.
Claudia, I have to wear a small dust mask when I dust because I’m a little allergic to dust and I don’t like to inhale it. So just wear a dust mask and you’ll see that it will be okay. You could also use a wet cloth and then a dry cloth to dry what you’ve just wetted. (Have I invented a new word here? It’s too hot to grab the dictionary). Okay, well, I think you get the picture. Also, I don’t know if you’re aware of this, but you can get special cloths that prevent the dust from flying. They have them in dollar stores. They come in pink, green, blue, and lilac. LOL! It makes dusting more interesting, don’t you think.
Well, Claudia, if you want to dust and have all your lovely collection looking exquisitely clean, this is the price you have to pay. There are no shortcuts. If you’re allergic to dust, you should really dust then, You’ll feel so much better. You’ll see how light you’ll feel when your environment is dust free. I know I do. Try to dust at least once every two weeks. I don’t mean the stuff on high but at least what you can easily access. Oh, believe me, I would much rather be doing anything but dust. The alternative is to throw everything out and I don’t want to do that. Well, okay, this is my paper on dusting. Hope I get good marks, Professor! Ha Ha Ha! Take care!

I’ve never found an answer, as I too am allergic to common house dust. Dust, or leave it be???

Okay, so I’m green with envy over your precious ‘volunteer’ impatiens. Having said that (and they ARE oh so ADORABLE I want some too :d) we have FINALLY gotten RAIN in northeast TN!!! Who ever heard of 107 deg. (not Heat Index, mind you) in northeast TN??? :) Brown had become the ‘in’ color for this Summer—then the Gods smiled on us, or maybe ‘cried’ on us is a better phrase LOL and we’ve had two WHOLE days of rain and more tomorrow—I’ll try to get a memo to the Rain Dragons to come visit you. :D Oh, and that dust thing—well, I AVOID dusting like the dickens and my wienie dog is allergic to it. :/

I so love garden surprises such as this – unfortunately mine have come this Summer as loss of plants in this heat, and even a small fir tree has died from lack of water whilst we were gone. The grass is now browned out, not unusual here in our hot temps., but always a talking point and we find ourselves moaning over the loss of that Spring swathe of brilliance which is so short-lived. We should change to Summer grass as many do in the south but I so dislike the brown grass in the Winter – just can’t win whichever way you look at it!!
Enjoy those impatiens – they are sweet.
Happy weekend Claudia dear.
