I have had two restless nights of sleep in a row. I’ve slept, it’s not a case of sleeplessness, but my goodness, the dreams, and the waking up and the going back to sleep and the waking up…
Yesterday, my last dream before I woke up was one in which Scout had run away and I didn’t know until I came home and lots of people were there but no one was looking for her. I couldn’t believe it. Then someone told me the Girl Scouts were out looking for her, and I screamed at them that I was the only one who would know where to look. Unsettling, to say the least.
This morning, more dreams that, after two cups of coffee, I can’t remember. But it seems like the last two, no, make that three, nights have been filled with dreams where everyone I’ve ever known has made an appearance.
Enough already.
I call this Waiting for the Snow. I took it early this morning and posted it on Instagram, but then I played around with some filters on a new app I downloaded called A Color Story. I don’t usually do a lot with filters, but I must say it’s sort of fun. Of course, I can’t remember what filter I used, but it intensified everything in this shot.
I’ve been up since 5:30. It’s now almost 8 and the snow hasn’t started falling yet. But I could sure feel it in the air yesterday as I walked home from rehearsal. Even if I hadn’t been aware of the forecast, I would have known that snow was headed our way.
I’m not called for any work today. I’d head home, but I might be called tomorrow. So I have to stay put. I guess I’ll take a walk when it begins to snow, as long as it isn’t too windy.
I gave up on the Cara Black mystery – for a couple of reasons. I opened the book to find it had been damaged by some previous reader. The pages were warped, there were stains, and it was irritating. (The library had noted the damage on the inside cover.) And I also quickly realized that I didn’t want to jump ahead to the newest book in the series, in which the protagonist is now a single mother, without knowing how she got there. So, I put it down. I’ll return it to the library.
Out came the Kindle, where I immediately dug into the other Jane Casey I had downloaded, The Stranger You Know. After I finish this one, I believe I will be all caught up and ready for her newest, whenever that comes out.
Right now, they’re predicting 5-9 inches of snow for this area, with an additional 1-3 inches tonight, which isn’t great, but is certainly much, much less than other areas of the East Coast. It’s supposed to stop by tomorrow morning, so by the time I want to head home, it might be clear enough to make the trip. Might. Again…fingers crossed.
Yes, I’m back to crocheting, but slowly, because my hands get sore after having made so many scarves last November and December. This one is almost finished and will go in the Etsy shop. Three more have to be made that are special requests. And then I’m done. For a long time.
If you’re at all interested, keep your eyes peeled on the Etsy widget in my sidebar. This is the only scarf that I will list for general sale. (The colors are a bit darker than they appear to be in this photo. But not much; it’s a really lovely colorway.)
Stay safe. Stay warm.
Happy Saturday.

We’ve got at least a foot of snow so far with higher drifts. It’s snowing so hard and the wind is blowing so bad that we can hardly see out the windows. We’re supposed to get 36 inches. I live in Pennsylvania near the border of Maryland. Thank goodness I’m stocked up on Susan Hill books.
I hope you get to go home tomorrow. Safe travels.
Claudia says
Oh my goodness! 36 inches, Kathy??? Hang in there, my friend and make some hot chocolate. Then pull out a Susan Hill (I’m stocked up, too!) and stay warm and safe.
Karen says
Enjoy your day, all tucked inside. A walk in the snow sounds nice, especially followed by some hot chocolate.
Claudia says
It still hasn’t started snowing yet, Karen. I walked over to the library to return some books and check out some new ones. I was hoping the museum would be open, but apparently they decided to close for the day. This is just the sort of day FOR a museum. Ah, well!
Donnamae says
We’ve had the weather channel on this morning…watching the storm…. and so thankful it missed us! How much snow is Don expected to get? Fingers crossed you can go home tomorrow! If you do….travel safe! ;)
Claudia says
We’re supposed to get more than Don. So far, for him – 3-5 inches. Us? 5 – 9 inches by the end of the whole thing. Or maybe more.
Barbara says
I love the colors too. I use a lot of variegated yarn. It just makes me happy.
Claudia says
Yes, I like variegated yarn, as long as it’s done well. Not just a lot of colors, but colors that make sense together, if you know what I mean.
Chris K in Wisconsin says
We watched on TV for a bit this morning. We have bright sunny skies, and it is hard to believe what people on the East coast are going through as it is such a pretty winter morning here. Well, pretty and winter really don’t compute in my mind….but after days of below zero,,,, sun and 30* is a delightful change.
They say the storm is going farther north than they anticipated. Crazy amounts of snow and wind. Hopefully everyone especially in those areas around DC and B’more have listened and are staying home.
I hope it still turns out to the sea before you get anything. Happy walk in the snow followed by a treat of hot chocolate! And then it can stop snowing so you can make a run home tomorrow!! Be safe!
Claudia says
Don’t think it’s going to turn out to sea, but there’s a front to the north that’s keeping it away from us for a bit. I’ve seen some flurries (I just went for a walk) but really nothing is happening yet. Still waiting.
Judy Clark says
Love the colors in that scarf! Stay warm!
Judy
Claudia says
I will. I’ve been out a bit. Now it’s beginning to snow…
Linda @ A La Carte says
We had a smattering of snow last night but it’s gone now. I’m still hoping that you don’t get hit hard and you can go home. Those dreams are anxiety of course about going home, but so unsettling. Did I tell you how much I enjoyed ‘Eeny Meeny’ and I have the next book in the series ready to read? I need to get to the library soon also as I have a book on hold.
hugs,
Linda
Claudia says
You’ll love the rest of the series, Linda. I can’t wait for another one to come out. The dreams are anxiety about all sorts of things, I guess, including trying to get home to Don and Scout. It’s gray out there today and I feel lonely for my family. I wish I was hunkering down with them today.
Betsy says
So far, so good for our daughter just outside DC. We talked to her awhile ago and they had well over a foot of snow and it was still coming down hard. I sure hope you get to go home Claudia. I like your new scarf. The color way is beautiful and I’m sure it will go quickly in your store.
Blessings,
Betsy
Claudia says
It’s finally coming down here and accumulating, Betsy. They think we might get closer to 3 or 4 inches, which isn’t so bad. Hope your daughter and family are all snuggled in for the duration!
Denise says
I live in NJ about 20 miles southeast of Philadelphia. It started snowing here early in the evening yestesterday. So far we have at least 16″ with much higher drifts. Because of the strong winds the snow on the roof at the back of the house is hanging out past the roof at least 3 feet. The wind has been relentless.
I took time this morning to make your special Christmas coffee cake. I can’t wait to try it for breakfast tomorrow morning.
Claudia says
I so hope that coffee cake tastes good to you. I can’t imagine it won’t! Just the thing when you’re nestled inside with winds howling and snow blowing. Take care, Denise!
Elizabeth says
Hi Claudia,
Long time follower but don’t say much. I haven’t slept well either the last few nights and just have that unsettled feeling. Believe it ar not my mom use to say some people react to strong winds as we have been experiencing all week. I am in Springfield (up the road a bit from Hartford) and golly that wind has been just awful, day and night, all week long.
I’m not saying this is causing your bad dreams but sometimes those old folks knew a thing or two.
Claudia says
Elizabeth, thank you for this. That makes sense. It’s been so windy and I’ve been very unsettled by days and days of it. I bet that’s what it is – because I’m aware of dreaming much more than I usually am and I’m sleeping very restlessly.
