Bless you. Yes, you. Thank you for your warm, loving comments on yesterday’s post. Since I strive for truth in my writing, I must admit tears came to my eyes as I read your comments. I wrote that post because I had to. And having to write something always signals to me that I need the catharsis that will come when the post is finished.
I post every day because it is a good discipline for me. And in a spirit of total honesty, it helps my ad income. The more hits I get, the more income. Primarily, though, sitting down and writing is a pleasure for me. I go through periods where I am full of ideas for posts and then, inevitably, I sometimes dry up. I still write. It may be a sentence or two with photos as the primary substance of the post. It may be a link to another blogger’s post. Having to come up with something is, 99% of the time, a good thing. That’s not to say that I will always post every day. But, I’ll sure try to.
I’m back in Hartford. It’s sunny and lovely. I miss my husband and dogs, but that goes without saying. I told you that I changed rooms twice last week. On Friday night, the music from a bar in the building across the parking lot from the hotel was so loud that I thought I would lose my mind. Loud, thumping bass. So I changed rooms (during my one hour rehearsal break the next day) to another side of the building. This room was much smaller and the light wasn’t as good. That night, the traffic from the I-84 off and on ramps and subsequent stop light was so loud that I couldn’t block it out, even with ear plugs in. Guess what I did the next morning at 7:00 AM? Changed rooms again. Not to my original room, though I tried to get that, but to one two floors higher with the exact same configuration. I’m sure I’ll have to put up with the bass on the weekends, but I’ll shut the windows and turn on the air conditioning. Two nights of noise is a lot better than every night.
I brought back something from home to warm up my room.
What do you think? That quilt was one of the first quilts I ever made. I pieced all those bits of 30’s reproduction fabric and then hand quilted the whole thing. I always hand quilt, which might explain why I have two large quilt tops stashed in my closet waiting to be hand quilted. It can be daunting.
I used to have this hanging over the railing in my studio.
I love 30’s fabrics. They remind me of a simpler time. I also bought more flowers at Trader Joe’s but the other flowers I bought last week were still going strong. So I found a makeshift vase.
Where there’s a will, there’s a way.
Happy Wednesday.

Claudia like so many of us you have a lot on your plate right now. I can relate. I quit trying to be only a pretty blog a while back so I could just live and post what I live. I think you do the same and that keeps true followers. Maybe a break so you feel refreshed since you are working so much right now. Anyway love your little quilt and hope all is well.

Good for you for taking the bull by the horns and changing rooms TWICE. Sometimes it is hard to do that.
I love your little quilt “touch of home”. Your stitching is beautifully done. That is a big job.
I hope you have a wonderful week and don’t feel too homesick. xo Diana

The quilt is lovely, Claudia, and with the flowers it makes the room much cozier. You’re right that there’s something about fabric from that era that’s so evocative of ‘better and happier times’. Here’s hoping you get some rest in your home-away-from-home!

The quilt is charming and all hand done makes it priceless. Hope you rest well.

I’m glad you are settling in, Claudia. I hope this room will work for you. You have to do like the dogs and wiggle around until you get it “just right”.

Hi Claudia,
I began commenting on yesterday’s post, but deleted it. I wondered why I should be giving advise to you, so many miles away…but I wanted to say that I know how lonely it feels when you have to go away for a period of time, whether it’s for work, visiting and caring for elderly parents or simply to visit an old friend. “Home is where the heart is” rings so true for most of us.
Soon, you will be home again and the loneliness that is in your heart will be replaced with joy. How fortunate to have a dear husband and such good doggies to welcome you home :)

Oh Claudia, that’s much better! Your beautiful quilt and flowers add such a nice homey feeling to the room. That looks so much more comfy.
I hope you will be able to sleep better now, nothing worse than trying to sleep through noise.

I just read your post yesterday and admire your honesty. It is hard blogging, coming up with stuff every day. I have had to cut back cause it gets a bit too much and I neglect other aspects of my life. Balance is very difficult. Your post hit a chord with most and many of us feel the same, we just don’t speak of it.
The best you can do is be yourself, which you do so very well. Thank you for all you give us.

What a great idea to bring a quilt from home. I love that you hand quilt. Beautiful workmanship, by the way. When I used to travel on business, I learned to use ear plugs. You can buy the sponge ear plugs made especially for women, and they work really well. That’s my tip of the day!

So glad you have the freedom within your spirit to open up and be honest! some people DON’T have that.
I think it is important to be comfortable especially if you’re paying for the room. So I’m glad you tried out a couple of spaces… I’m also liking that you brought things from home to make your stay cozy. I like the quilt and the flowers!

When I started to blog, I meant to write as I would talk to my girlfriends around the kitchen table. As I became more blog savvy, I started playing to the room and I wasn’t comfortable with it. Now, I’m back to chatting over coffee and feel a lot less pressure to perform. I’m still a newbie, so what do I know. ~ Maureen
