As we were digging out…
An endless process on Monday, with Don wielding the snowblower and me, the shovel. We are still recovering this morning. When Don reached the end of the driveway with the snowblower, he couldn’t get through the pile of snow left by the plows, so he had to leave it. We had to go back down there later in the day and remove the snow layer by layer. I dug out the car as best I could and finished it off yesterday. Because of the hilly nature of our property, I’m not sure how much we got, but it was closer to 15 inches than 20.
Frigid temperatures continue, so there will be no melting for quite a while. There was no mail delivery until yesterday as the roads were still dangerous on Monday.
How it looked yesterday:

It looks like we may see some sunshine today.
But honestly, we’re exhausted. By everything. Yesterday, I felt very old and very sad.
While the snow was falling on Sunday, I replaced the smaller version of my ‘cabinet of curiosities’ with a larger one – a larger plate and glass dome.

Little bits and bobs of found objects from the property.

Feathers, pods, acorns, a snakeskin, robin’s eggs, a beautiful dead moth that I found in the house, bits of pottery found here and there – blue, ironstone, striped – shells, a doll hand that we found in the woods. some bits of glass.
I hope to add more finds this year…if the snow ever melts.
Stay safe.
Happy Wednesday.

Wow! That’s a lot of work. We did not get much but it is very cold. I like your unusual collection – such a nice variety of interesting treasures!
Stay safe and snug!
Thank you, Ellen.

you’re getting there with removing all that snow and then recuperating, and every day getting closer to spring! :)
appreciate your photos. always beautiful, and not just because i love snow and have a sort-of-similiar plate, crock and little spice jars of natural findings. no snake skin or bugs or glass dome, but lots of rocks, shells, branches, ocean/lake/river waters here. nature is very restorative for me. glad you have such a beautiful home and property.
six-feet-long prayer shawl done and delivered two days ago. glad about that, too.
hope you, don and everyone else have days full of gladness and good things. stay safe and warm.

Thank you, Kathy,
Stay safe,
Oh…that’s a lot of snow. And no matter how many tools one may have…it’s still a lot of time and energy and snow to clear. It is beautiful though!
Glad you can rest up…you certainly earned it. Love your plate of curiosities, and the cloche is perfect.
Enjoy your day! ;)
Thank you, Donnamae.

Claudia, that’s a lot of snow. Sitting here in CO where we have NONE and should have what you have, I can say how beautiful it is because I’m not shoveling. That much snow is daunting. Blue sky makes it much better. I love your cabinet of curiosities. I have gathered nature items on our walks and they are sitting here and there. Your display is a wonderful way to show off those treasures. I think I will take a visit to our favorite antique shop and see if I can find a dome. Thank you for the inspiration! You two be safe.
Thank you, Verna.

I have the same chintz plate in blue. I love the color it adds to our January dinners!
Readers here will appreciate that The Black Wolf (Penny) is ready for pickup at the library!!! There are some things that brighten my days. Good books and the changing tide in what might be my America again. Thankfully…
Peace
I have had that book since it came out, but still haven’t read it. All in good time. Glad you got it, Roxie.

You had a lot of snow. I know how much work snow “removal” is. I suspect you and Don will have sore muscles.
I love your curiosities. I have little collections, too. I had a wonderful find last summer working in the wild part of my yard a vertebrate. I believe it is a deer. I live in the mountains and surrounded my wildlands, so there are lots of deer and moose.
Please Take Care,
Kaye
A very cool find, Kaye.

I love your cabinet of curiosities! Lots of bibs and bobs! And boy, that’s some serious snow. I worry about both of your backs. Hopefully, you are well stocked and can take your time digging out.
Thank you, Jeanie.

That is a lot of snow my friend. I love the ‘cabinet of curiosities’. My Scout loves to find things on hikes and has a little shelf of tiny things! Stay warm!
Thank you, Linda.
Stay safe.
Claudia, have you seen Rachel Madow’s show tonight? It’s incredible!! Trump is in MAJOR trouble. The Supreme Court has turned against him! That’s just one item. It seems that his life as president is starting to come crashing down around him.
I didn’t see it, but I’ll try to catch it today. Thank you, Carol.
Stay safe.
