Wednesday at the Cottage

June 12, 2013 at 8:33 am by Claudia

What’s happening around the house on a Wednesday:

wed-clematis

The clematis is unfurling its blooms.

wed-moth

A beautiful moth stops for a rest.

wed-shakespeare

Time for research.

wed-shakespearetable

I’ve taken over the kitchen table.

wed-spirea

The spirea is blooming.

wed-yarrow

As is the yarrow.

wed-catalpa

Second week of June? Like clockwork, the catalpa is full of gorgeous, fragrant blooms.

wed-catalpaclose

But it’s been so windy, that many have fallen. Stop, wind.

And stop, rain, please. We’ve had long, torrential downpours for the past several days. The little leak in our bedroom has reared its ugly head again. I think it has to do with the chimney flashing, which has been replaced before and will have to be replaced again. Today is sunny, very breezy and I can see that some of my daylilies have bloomed.

I’m immersed in Shakespeare in preparation for my meeting with the director in NYC, which will take place next Monday. The table is covered in books and papers.Whenever I cover that table with something – be it my dollhouse project or reference books and legal pads, Don always says how much he likes it. I’ve noticed he very much likes to see creativity in process and what I might see as clutter, he finds stimulating and artistic.

Love that man.

By the way, for those of you interested in downloading selections from Don’s new album, Out Beyond the Breakers, we have the all clear from Paypal now. Everything is in order. If you’re interested, click on this link to Don’s website and then click on Store. You can download the entire album or single songs.

I normally wouldn’t have mentioned all of this again, but we did have a technical snafu, so I want to give you the latest news.

Don’s really good. His word and music are soul-stirring. As is his voice.

There. That’s all I will say. Except…thanks.

Now I plan to finish my coffee, go outside to see what is blooming, sneeze for the millionth time (my allergies are so bad this year!) finish my current Deborah Crombie novel, work on Act 2 of Much Ado About Nothing, and buy some more allergy medicine.

What do you plan to do today?

Happy Wednesday.

I’m with Don on that table. It is an exciting picture to me because it says there is so much fun going on in research, chasing rabbit trails, book detective work. Even though my work is not anything near as exciting as yours, that is what I like best, books spread out, notepads and post-it notes everywhere and sharpened pencils. Ideas captured before they flee. A perfect activity while it’s raining outside and the pollen is high. Not clutter, Claudia!

Strong storms are brewing here in northern IL. It’s very muggy right now. Weather forecast says chance of hail as big as baseballs (I can’t imagine) and tornadoes. Good thing I have a basement. Brian and Tim out at the university where Tim will be attending in August – hope they make it home before the storms hit later this afternoon. I’m staying home today…just finished all my housework and laundry is in the dryer. Will now go through some piles of paperwork and then start a new book – The Burgess Boys. Have a good day, Claudia!

Claudia – you and Don would love the Alaska Folk Festival. It is held here in Juneau in April every year. You should contact Perseverance Theatre to see if they can use your services (or Don’s) in April and attend the Folk Fest as well! (obviously, I love making plans for other people!).

Seriously, though, it would be fun, and you would have a place to stay!

The clematis photo is striking, Claudia. It looks like you and your camera have come to a very good understanding of each other.

No big plans here for the day; I went to an exercise class this morning, mowed the lawn, discovered that a couple of 65 pounds of limestone screening felt heavier when I lifted them out of the car, and now it’s time to do laundry. Thrilling, n’est pas? I may start a novel as well. A friend mentioned that John Banville was one of her favourite authors so I have one of his books on hand.

    Good Luck with the Bard.

Hi Claudia!! I am a medical transcriptionist and have been working at this for the past 15 years. I was/am a nurse and worked in the local hospital, but I transitioned to this as I got older. I did some work for my employer in her office when she was here, but now she lives in another state so all work is on the computer and I am at home. I love working from home, but it gets lonely sometimes… I am not sure if the local colleges are still teaching this – it seems to be a dying profession wth the electronic medical record, but I will keep at it as long as I have a job… I wish you success in your job search, Claudia!!

Sounds like you are busy…me too. Supposed to get lots of rain today, so just doing laundry and getting caught up. Lots of yard work to do, but looks like it will have to wait. Creativity is often messy and cluttery…it means stuff is getting done! Enjoy your day! ;)

I love how you describe Don’s reaction to your creative process. My Hubby is very much like that too. He cares less about the cluttered mess and is more thrilled that I am alive with the spark of creativity. The shot of your books spread out makes me happy too. There’s something about the process of studying and gleaning knowledge from books that’s always made a little spark stir deep inside me. Your pic made me feel that stirring.

I’m a clematis addict, so very much enjoy your photo today. I literally have hundreds.
I am preparing for travels out west to visit my grandchildren, and this is always stressful… until I get there. Organizing pet care, mulch delivery and bridge repair, and then packing for a wide range of activities, – oh, and the camera and battery charger – well, you understand this very well too.
The weather has not been helpful here either. I wanted to mow everything just before leaving, but that won’t be possible it seems now that tomorrow will be a long wet day instead of the predicted sunny one.
But we’re sure to have joy with the little ones!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
