Wednesday Potpourri

September 28, 2022 at 8:15 am by Claudia

• For some reason, Don and I both woke up at 4:30 am, so you can imagine how thrilled I am about that. And we’ve had to turn the heat on this morning – just for a bit. We ordered more oil yesterday. $$$$$$$$

• I’ve chatted with Meredith this morning. They’re getting tons of rain and some wind, which will increase to about 60 mph as the day goes on. The hurricane has veered to the south of Tampa and will probably hit  the Fort Meyers area. The worst bands will be south of the hurricane. So, what is a relief to us is devastating to others. Praying for everyone.

• It’s my dad’s birthday today. He would have been 99. I miss him. Happy Birthday, Dad!

• And now, because I haven’t posted any photos of the girls in 3 or 4 days and I’m tired and on the edge of being irritable:

Sophie on the puzzle.

I think she needs an Alice in Wonderland dress, don’t you?

And this little beret arrived yesterday::

These are made by a woman in Germany. She makes whimsical hats out of felted wool for Blythes, these little BJDs, and other dolls. She uses natural dyes. They are utterly charming. The beret arrived in yesterday’s mail, along with some beautiful dried flowers and little cloth carrot with a face. Someday, I’d like a Blythe-sized hat as well. Wren looks adorable, I must say!

• I cleaned up my section of our shared office/studio and it’s looking much more organized. Why do I have so much old income tax stuff in my file drawers? I mean, way older than I need to have on hand? I have to do a major clean out of those file drawers. They’re also crammed with dialect sheets and notes and old contact sheets from various shows I’ve coached and I’m reluctant to part with them until I’m officially retired.

Okay.

Stay safe.

Happy Wednesday.

Yes, Mere says it will hit about two hours south of the Tampa area.

Both my older nephews had to evacuate as they live on the water.

      Hang in there, Brenda.

Cleaning the office/studio/files is always a good thing and usually never fun. I try to keep the income tax stuff to seven years back and no more but I get lazy and sometimes realize I haven’t shredded anything. I just hate shredding! I sometimes wonder if it’s all worth it. I’m glad things are looking a little up for Mere though worried about the sons. Rick’s dad is in Punta Gorda which I think is near Ft. Myers so we’re worried about the property. They’re currently in NC, unless they went home to sandbag. Sophie DOES have an Alice look!

We threw out our shredder, so I’m not sure what to do? Go to some place where they let you use their shredder??

One of Mere’s sons and his girlfriend are sheltering with her. The other son went to North Carolina with his girlfriend to stay with a friend.

      Stay safe, Jeanie.

This storm is frightening. I pray the best for your family. We got our new oil tank mon , and I dread the cost of the next fill up. Our tank was 43 years old so I thank God I t held up. Yes we need to do shredding in the office. We keep putting it off.

I’m sure our oil tank is old, but it seems to be fine!

Please make sure when you have your yearly heating check there are no leaks. That is how they noticed ours.

prayers said and will continue for your sister, her boys (both two- and four-legged), brendab and everyone else dealing with hurricanes and other scary, awful things.

    happy birthday to your father.

love the hat … nice detailing. i agree that an alice-in-wonderland dress seems fitting for sophie.

great job on the office/studio clean-up. hope your back feels good.

once or twice per year, a couple of banks here hire shredding trucks and make them available to everyone (whether you are a customer of their banks or not). very much appreciated … that kindness allowed me to get a lot of paper shredded = peace of mind for having a couple unnecessary boxes of stuff gone. :) is there anything like that available for you?

going to call ahead to hopefully find some at-home covid tests to buy via drive-up today (the ‘free’ ones my family and i ordered are done). i won’t visit anyone in my family again today as i still feel crummy. pretty sure it’s a cold, but want to be certain. ugh.

i did get a few smaller things done yesterday … repotted a plant, sorted some papers, tidied the kitchen, kept looking at art i put up on two walls. no reading, but took a couple of naps.

hope you all are well, stay safe.

Nothing like that available around here – that I know of.

We didn’t get the second of the free tests – just the first. Not sure what happened. I have to pay for the tests that I have to take for those days when I watch rehearsals in NYC.

Stay safe and feel better, Kathy.

Still sending good wishes to all who are anywhere near the storms…that surge sounds very scary and damaging!

Especially loving Wren’s look today with her stylish beret!

It does feel nice to get organized…your notes reminded me that I need to do the same. I have paperwork…lots of paperwork…to shred, or organize in a better way. Somehow it makes me feel lighter when things are organized! That should be motivation enough for me to keep up with it all, but that’s not the case!

I did get my latest Covid booster yesterday, so just a bit sore…had the flu shot a couple weeks ago so I think I’m set for awhile!

I have SO much paperwork to shred!!! I’d love nothing more than to get rid of it.

We’ll probably get our booster next week and then the flu shot the week after that.

      Stay safe, Barrie.

I vote for a daily doll picture! A doll outfit of the day! Dolls doing useful productive things around the house. Seeing them always brightens my day, even when I am envious of their cool clothes.

I’m with Cici. I would love to see a daily picture of the girls. Wren looks adorable in her new beret. I just love the expression on her sweet face.

Praying for the safty of everyone in the path of Hurricane Ian. Our east coast is still cleaning up from Hurricane Fiona.

We missed the brunt of this but still…going to get to go home today but as most of the county has no electricity and winds and rain…might not get to stay. I have a whole floor here bigger than condo but I have become hermit like. Thanks for prayers and thoughts. I have lived through hurricanes often and I still maintain the blizzards were much worse…longer and more cutoff. Claudia that is for this blog and your cadre of friends.

      Glad to know you’re safe.

I don’t know about blizzards being worse. We don’t usually lose power in a blizzard and the streets are cleared pretty quickly!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
