Last day of September and then we’re really into Autumn. Fallen leaves are everywhere now and the front lawn needs a good mow. I think we’ll tackle that tomorrow.
We have a few late blooming roses. What a sweet gift!
I finally spoke to Joe last night. We’ve been texting a lot, but I didn’t want to overwhelm him with phone calls until I felt he was ready for that. Too many people have been hovering over him, well intentioned of course, but Joe is very private and independent and now that he’s able to take care of himself and move around, I felt I could grab some time with him. He still uses a walker, still has no feeling in his right leg because of complications from the ECMO machine. He can drive, but it involves a lot of maneuvering to get in the car and to get his feet in position. And whether he sues due to their error which resulted in the cardiac arrest will probably come down to whether he can ever play the organ again. Because if he can’t, his career is over.
We talked for over an hour, with lots and lots of laughing and shared memories. It was so good to hear his voice and to hear it sounding full of life. He’s had such a battle.
Bathroom ’tile.’
I’m going for something in the den – a room I’d like to make a bit more fun and playful. (In fact, I’d like the third floor to be reserved for creativity and play.) The two bookshelf units arrived on Monday and I painted them yesterday, using a shade of pale pink that is in the print on the sofa and also in the wallpaper.
It’s a work in progress. I’ll need to tie it all together with a rug and art on the walls, and pillows, etc. I may re-cover the piano bench as well. The red chair might stay, but it really belongs in Dove Cottage, so I will look for a chair that helps tie things together.
I’ll admit it: right now it looks strange, but I have a vision in my head. And when the bookcases are filled with books and art, that pink won’t seem so overwhelming.
This is a little blurry as I took it early this morning. The shelves need one more coat of paint. I briefly thought of a dark blue for the shelves, but the room is already dark and I didn’t want to make it even more so.
I can’t afford the expense of taking risks in my house, but I think I can take a risk in a dollhouse.
Just now, I had a thought: red? Ooh, red! I’ll try some test pieces of wood.

it’s all looking good, claudia! as to red or pink on the bookcases … personally, i prefer red with blue, especially when they are not primary shades. i like muted, deep-but-faded colors best. pink with most blues makes me think “nursery”, so i don’t choose that. if you want a choice, for me, i’d go with a deeper, old red (or a deeper blue as in the wallpaper) … but whether you keep the pink or paint the bookcases red (or any other color), you will make it all look lovely.
i’m glad that you and joe had a nice, long visit. bet it did you both good! glad to hear he’s making progress. hope he’s talked with a lawyer to know what his options (and their timeframes) are. prayers continue.
it was sprinkling enough this morning that we walked in the mall. going around and around like that makes me feel like a hamster on a wheel, but at least it’s an option for days to best not walk outside. now it’s time for some chores. making myself do them before i get to knit or sketch ideas for the next linocut class.

Good Morning Claudia! “Ooh Red!” is right! I painted only the interior of my kitchen hutch (many years ago) in fire engine red and never ever regretted it! The exterior was black and I eventually painted a lot of flora and fauna over the exterior, but that red interior really made the piece. I can’t wait to see what your experiments produce! I Love that you are adding the big bookshelves… I personally love books and have too many…. but in Theory there is no such thing as too many books! Lol! The bathroom tile looks wonderful… an interesting pattern to contrast with the loose feeling of the walls but plain so not competing… just right! You are really having a great time with this house and I love every bit of it! :):)
And yes, my garden keeps blessing me with another rose blossom or two suddenly appearing where none were expected! They bloomed well in the first flush, but did not continue in the dry heat of summer… The first few “extras” were such a surprise…. now I am looking around and spotting those newest buds!

He can’t play the organ when he has no feeling in his right leg. I sure hope that a miracle brings back the feeling in his leg. As well, the muscle tone in that leg is really weak.
I already changed the bookcase color to red. I think it will work better.
