We’re Having a Heat Wave….

July 21, 2011 at 5:01 pm by Claudia

It’s 97 degrees right now. Weather.com says it feels like 104. These plants are in the shade. I hope they’re holding up in this onslaught of heat. I watered at 6:30 this morning and I just got in from dunking my impatiens in lots of water.

We’re staying inside.

I did venture out this morning, along with my husband, to meet the surgeon. I really like him. He’s straight forward, honest and funny. He started off by telling me he no longer has a gall bladder.  I told him that was comforting – not that I wished him ill – but because he’s dealt with the same problem. Plus, he was wearing the coolest shoes. So cool that I had to comment on them. He’s got style. Which is more than I had in my khaki shorts and t-shirt.

We chatted about my earlier stay in the hospital and then he completely surprised me by saying, “Let’s take it out on Monday.” This Monday? Yep. Gulp. Alrighty… let’s go for it. So tomorrow I go back to the hospital for blood work. And then I call them tomorrow night to find out at what ungodly hour they want me there on Monday morning. Hopefully, if all goes smoothly, I’ll be home the same day.

I’m more than a tad nervous. As I said before, I haven’t had any surgery since I had my tonsils removed when I was 8. And then I had a reaction to the ether. Yes, ether. That’s what they used in those days. By the way, when I was under anesthesia for my procedure 3 weeks ago, I apparently shouted out to my husband, “Pray for me!” and then I stuck my arm up in the air with the index finger pointing upward and shouted “Our adventure continues!”

I have no memory of that. God knows what else I said in front of the hospital staff. I told Don to get ready for more Claudia quotables.

I’m sure I’ll spend the weekend being nervous. Good thing I have another thriller to read in the Jack Reacher series by Lee Child. I am telling you – you cannot put these books down. I’m addicted. I’m on my 4th and I think he’s written 14. Whoopee – what fun it will be to read them all!

Stay cool, everyone.

Claudia, you are actually hotter than I am today! It is only 94 in Tucson right now. That has to be some kind of record for your area!

It is good that you like your surgeon. That makes all of the difference going in. No pun intended. My thoughts and prayers will be with you.

I am so glad that you are enjoying Reacher. I have read them all. Lee Childs has to learn to write faster! Great books to Keep your mind busy. Good luck!

I read somewhere that Mondays are the best days to have an operation…something about the surgeon being fresh and relaxed…

You’ll be fine and use this opportunity to have someone do for you….i did…lol

Melting here in the Windy City too. It’s the humidity that is killing us. I’m out watering in the middle of the night, but who cares I have nothing to do all day. Thanks for the update and chuckle of your tale. Monday it is, have a nice relaxing weekend with Jack. Right now, I’m with Jamie from THE OUTLANDER series, book 3.

    Have Don keep us posted.

The worst part of the operation is the before and the after. Before because of the nerves and after because of discomfort. You will be so glad and feel so much better a week from now for sure.

Claudia- I am going to be thinking about you on Monday. A safe surgery will be in my prayers. When I had my surgery I was in the post op and I could hear the nurses talking about the lady next to me that would not wake up and they may have to put her in ICU. I was so scared I kept saying “I’m awake, I’m awake”. The nurses were laughing at me and telling me that everything was okay :) You do funny things when they put you under. My best advice to you is to rest when you get home and don’t push it. I went back to work too early and then it took me twice as long to recover. Just let Don take care of you and enjoy being pampered for awhile. Big hugs Claudia xxxxxooooo!!!!

I’m sorry it’s necessary but glad you are going forward – you will be so much better by this time next week dear. I know all will go fine…….a surgeon in cool shoes must mean careful hands, what more could one want, ha! ha!

Know that love and prayers for a quick recovery will surround you – even though we can’t be showering you with fruit, candy and flowers…..we’ll let Don do that!

At least you can stay in out of the heat……it’s 110 here today, really dangerous outside.

So, you’re on to more adventures! I think I would tell my husband to pray for me too and I wouldn’t be quiet about it by any means!!!

I keep you in my thoughts and prayers. My grandma had her gall bladder out when I was a kid and remember her telling me it wasn’t any big deal… she was a sweet, kind lady and believe me, wouldn’t have said it if it wasn’t absolutely TRUE.

Love ya sweets! Cool wishes your way too.

    Hi Claudia,
I can definitely relate to your being nervous. I have never had much done hospital-wise myself…like you, tonsils out when I was young. I am the most nervous over being put out. But, I can tell you, the doctors will watch and monitor you very closely. I am confident you will be fine. I will keep you in my prayers on Monday and check in on Tuesday to see how you are doing. Just keep focused on how much better you will feel. It sounds like you have a wonderful doctor. Just know that all your readers will be praying for you on Monday. Thinking of you… (((((hugs)))) Kim

    Hi Claudia,

I know you are nervous. I had never had anything done either. When my stomach finally sent to the GI doc he scheduled me for a colonoscopy and one where they go down you throat to look in your stomach. I was a nervous wreck…thought it was the end of the world…LOL Hey, when you’ve never had anything go wrong it really scares you when it does.

Believe me when they gave one drop of the drug to put me under I was very happy..ha ha Being the insomniac it was the best 20 minutes of sleep I think I’ve ever had.

My sister had her gall bladder taken out…she was in and out within 3 hours or so. These doctors have it down to a fine art.

I’m sending comfort and hugs to you.

    ((((hugs))))

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
