Puzzle in progress. Will I finish it today? We’ll see. Thanks for this fun puzzle, husband!
Big sigh of relief for the news about the Senate. That got me so jazzed last night I had to force myself to calm down so I could go to sleep.
We woke up to some more rain, though it seems to have stopped now. It’s a gray, damp day and the temperature will be much colder than it’s been lately. Tomorrow night, the temperatures go down to 22 degrees, so that will be it for the porch plants. They have done beautifully this year and I thank them for their service.
Sigh.
Since I have nothing else to share today, how about we answer this question: What are you reading?
I’m in the middle of The Shadow Murders by Jussi Adler-Olsen.
Stay safe.
Happy Sunday.
Brendab says
Love the puzzles…reading books for Netgalley…Daughter brought me several from publishers…finished 6:20 Man. Baldacci they sent her the hardback…she receives boxes of books monthly………also a Grisham and several others from her…like the new Mary Higgins Clark and Alifair Burke…although Clark is deceased, it was a sequel to one of her books…I have loved every book by Clark…on another note…has anyone watched the new season of the Crown? New actors and actresses…any thoughts? I have watched it into the night, but in my opinion….well…I will wait…
Claudia says
We’re in the middle of watching it now. I have some issues with the casting this season but it’s always a high quality production and we’re enjoying it. More than that I won’t say because most of us have just started watching it.
Stay safe, Brenda.
Brenda says
That is why I didn’t comment. I agree with everything you said. The casting somewhat.
Claudia says
xo
Dee+Dee says
I am in two minds whether or not to watch this 5th series. I thought the first two were excellent but I really didn’t like the last one. It felt like someone had said “We need to sex it up and add far more villains to keep our viewers”
It got to the point where all the Royal Family except for Diana were dreadful. Also, so many inaccuracies, there was one scene where someone announced that Diana was expecting a second child but in reality, Harry was already six months old at this point.
Hopefully without giving away any spoilers, it’s been reported in the British press that our former Prime Minister, John Major has stated that the conversation between Charles and himself never took place, calling the scene ‘Barrel-load of malicious nonsense’
Happy Sunday
Claudia says
Oh, I suspected that conversation wasn’t factual. That’s why I’m conflicted as I watch this series.
Thanks, Dee Dee.
Stay safe.
Darlene says
I did not like the new cast and I find this season SAD, I guess because I know the ending in real life. AND I’m always wondering “Did that really happen?” I really don’t think I’ll watch the next season.
Claudia says
We always wonder what really happened. Some of it I know happened. Other events are sketchy.
Brendab says
Don would have made a fantastic younger Prince Phillip…just saying…
Claudia says
Thanks, Brenda!
Stay safe.
ceci says
I had the same thought, altho playing against type perhaps.

beautiful puzzle. and a great photo of it (i think i can see where a piece needs to go … ha).
always sad when plants go (happens a lot around here … i don’t have a “green thumb”), but you sure put your heart into them and gave/give them good care.
hope you stay warm like your heart.
very cold here. thursday morning it was about 65 degrees. by mid-afternoon the temperature had dropped to maybe half that. friday and yesterday it didn’t get above freezing (so we bundled up and walked in windy 26-degree temperatures). and we had snow flurries yesterday. still not ready!
to your question … the Bible and agatha christie. i always like when you ask this question because i obviously get so many book recommendations (thank you and everyone else here) and i like learning more about you all. don’t really need the recommendations as i have a few unread books here (haha), plus i have nearly filled with book titles and author names a blank book my sister made me. not a problem!
hope you, don and everyone else have a very happy sunday. stay safe.
kathy
Claudia says
Thanks so much, Kathy.
It’s very cold and windy here today. Sigh.
Stay safe.
jeanie says
Fab puzzle! Enjoy a mellow day. Yes, Rosemary must come in soon, too. She can take cold. But not Michigan cold!
I’m reading two things — The Gershwins and Me by Michael Feinstein (it’s dense and easy to pick up and put down and return) and “A Line to Kill.” Horowitz. I had to climb over a four-feet, five-deep stack of books to get it at Costco. It was worth the effort.
Claudia says
I loved A Line to Kill. Enjoy!
Stay safe, Jeanie.
Terri says
I’m reading “The Retribution” by Val McDermid. The woman can really write!
Linda Jenkins says
I just finished _West with Giraffes_ by Lynda Rutledge and _Cry of the Earth, Cry of the Poor_ by Leonardo Boff. I always love to see what others are reading.
Claudia says
Hope you have another book all ready to start, Linda.
Stay safe.
Claudia says
Excellent writer.
Stay safe, Terri.
Shanna says
I’m nearing the end of The Nameless Ones by John Connolly. It’s not my favorite of the Charley Parker series, but he’s such a good writer that he keeps me interested. (Laughed out loud at his description of a certain type of man—of which there are way too many for my liking down here—as resembling a big toe!) I’ve read quite a few in this series, though in no particular order. It’s just in the order of what I can get through my library. Still it seems to work.
Claudia says
I have that book and have had it for over a year. I haven’t started it because it was putting me off for some reason. I’ve read everything in this series except that one.
Stay safe, Shanna.
kaye says
The election results gave me hope that our country/democracy just might survive .
I am reading “Flight” by Lynn Stegner Strong.
Take Care,
Kaye
Denise S says
I’m working my way through the Louise Penny books I haven’t read yet that are available at my library. I just finished A Trick of the Light and am now half way through All the Devils are Here. I can’t get enough of the Gamache series! When I get caught up I won’t know what to read next.
I just came inside from trying to winterize some of the stuff on my patio. I have a lot of perennials in large patio pots, including some hydrangeas that are still blooming. My nephew moved all the pots to a more protected area a couple days ago . I just covered everything with a frost blanket because we have a freeze warning for tonight. After having 70 degree temps. a few days ago, it’s now cold and blustery.
Claudia says
Well there’s a new one coming out on November 29th, Denise!
Here, it’s really impossible to winterize unless you have a greenhouse, unfortunately.
Stay safe.
Claudia says
It looks like it might survive, but we’re going to have to constantly safeguard it.
Stay safe, Kaye.
Deb in Phoenix says
We are celebrating here for the blue that won out in Arizona and Nevada. Now we still have to wait for our girl Katie Hobbs to pull through. Do not want to see Kari Lake pull ahead! We feel the same way about the election.
Seems like our country is finally saying no to the crazies! I love Bill Gates who is giving all the counting updates from Maricopa County. Such a nice, patient man. He deserves a nice, long vacation after this. I am reading Distilled Genius by Susan Branch. It is a book full of her favorite quotes and stories. It just amazes me how she handwrites and illustrates all of her books. Love her artwork. A cold day here means watching football. Take care!
Linda says
Yes I hope to buy the new Susan branch
Love love her home on Martha6 Vineyard
We have walked by it many times
Claudia says
The tweets from Maricopa County are quite witty. They assure everyone about the vote count, of course, but they also trolled the trolls who keep saying there’s something dirty going on. Hilarious.
Stay safe, Deb.
trina says
I am in the middle of reading “The Ways We Hide” by Kristina McMorris. Through the reading of this book lead me to put on hold at our library a book about Houdini. Didn’t know that he (Houdini) while traveling through Germany and Russia as a magician would report back his findings during WWI as a spy. The book is “The Secret Life of Houdini: the Making of America’s First Superhero” by William Kalush and Larry Sloman. I think NPR did a story about this.
Claudia says
I didn’t know that about Houdini, either! How fascinating.
Stay safe, Trina.
Carol says
I am reading “A Trace of Poison” by Colleen Cambridge. It’s about Agatha Christie and her housekeeper, Phyllida Bright, who is an amateur detective and helps the local police solve murders. I’m about a quarter of the way through it. I like it so far.
I’m glad too that the “Red Wave” didn’t happen.
Claudia says
Enjoy your book, Carol!
Stay safe.
Amy says
Big sigh of relief about the Senate!
Fingers-crossed Warnock prevails in the GA run-off in December.
Finished “The Rising Tide” by Ann Cleeves and have started “The Shadow Murders”.
Chilly and sunny here today, with lows to drop to near freezing this week. Time for flannel sheets. 😊
Stay safe & well.
Claudia says
It’s very cold and windy here today. I guess it’s officially almost winter.
Thanks, Amy.
Stay safe.
Barrie says
Nice puzzle! When I have worked on puzzles before I kind of slowed the finishing just so I could keep working at it!
Very cold morning here in the Bay Area, but it’s clear out…
I’m reading fluff! Lately I’ve needed reading that I don’t have to think about.
Happy Sunday!
Claudia says
I try to do that but then I get excited about it almost being finished and I go for it.
Stay safe, Barrie.
Vicki says
I’m reading Matthew Perry’s memoir and I really don’t why as I never watched “Friends” on TV, but something struck me when he was being interviewed by Diane Sawyer and I guess I just kinda like him and wanted to know more. I just lean more and more to non-fiction although I know I could benefit from some good escape with a fictional story.
Another sunny, beautiful day in Southern Calif; temp was 59 degrees when husband walked the dog at 9:30am PST (after an overnight of mid-40s). I’m loving the clearness of the fall days; for some reason and it’s a welcome development, we’re not getting hit with agricultural burning on the best days (the farmers would wait for those clear days/cooled-down from summer, to burn old citrus/avocado groves to make space for new plantings although they get incentives to chip rather than burn), so it’s an absence of a smoke-filled valley. And the ocean/offshore-islands views off our long coastline have been stunning. I love the autumn here.
Claudia says
Sorry to hear you never watched Friends. It was so well written and acted by a great ensemble. I laughed out loud constantly.
Glad that autumn is lovely for you, Vicki.
Stay safe.
Elaine in Toronto says
I’m reading Ina’s new cookbook “Go-To Dinners”. There are some lovely recipes and beautiful pictures. The novel I’m reading is “Keep You Clise” by Lucie Whitehouse. Just started it so really can’t comment yet.
Lovely news about the Senate majority. Your plant puzzle is beautiful. You’ve probably finished it by now. Enjoy your Sunday afternoon.
Hugs, Elaine
Claudia says
Yes, I finished the puzzle this morning, Elaine.
Thanks so much.
Stay safe.
Marion says
I am reading Timothy Christian’s ‘Hemingway’s Widow’. I am really enjoying it. In high school many, many years ago I read The Old Man And The Sea and loved it. I have been a fan of ‘Papa’ since then. Such a sad ending to his life, he must have been very troubled.
Claudia says
Clinical Depression ran in that family, it seems. And he drank heavily for most of his life.
Stay safe, Marion.
Chris K in WI says
Just finished The Mayfair Bookshop ~ I loved it. And before that, The Last Dance of the Debutante and The Magnolia Palace. I enjoyed all of them. With the election happening, I could NOT take on any heavy reading at all. Just about to start Sugar and Salt and/or Where the Sky Begins. The wee one has RSV, so my attention still isn’t where it could be. She isn’t hospitalized, but she is pretty miserable, as are her parents. There is ALWAYS something. Just want to see her sweet smile and bright eyes again REAL SOON!!!!
It is a cloudy and cold day here, also. I am ready for Spring. Take care.
Claudia says
Poor little one! I hope she feels better very soon.
I’m already done with winter and it hasn’t even started officially!
Stay safe, Chris.
kathy in iowa says
sorry to hear that about your sweet granddaughter and her parents being sick. will be praying for comfort and quick recoveries for all and peace of mind for you all. also that you stay well and happy.
kathy
Chris K in WI says
Thx, kathy, They think their symptoms are quite a bit different than hers. They said it really, for them, feels like allergies. She is so congested and that cough just breaks my heart. Has been to the Dr twice now. Thx for the prayers!!!!!!!!!!!
Donnamae says
Great puzzle you are working on….I’m thinking by now you’ve completed it.
I’m currently reading Dark Vector by Graham Brown. And I have two high piles stacked on my nightstand just waiting to be read. Guess I better get going.
Great news for the Senate….now on to get Warnock reelected! Fingers crossed for the House as well. I’m angry that we’re stuck with Ron Johnson for 6 more years. But, I can’t dwell on it…next up….a liberal Wisconsin Supreme Court judge. We have to end the gerrymandering!
Enjoy your day! ;)
Claudia says
Yes, I completed it in the morning.
Gerrymandering is cheating. That’s why the GOP loves it.
Yes to Warnock. He’s a wonderful Senator and a good man.
Stay safe.
Dee+Dee says
I have to confess that Peyton Place and Valley of the Dolls are still in my TBR pile. I am reading Notes on an Execution by Danya Kukafka. Not the most cheerful of subjects but a very well written novel.
I meant to add the other day that anyone residing can join as many public libraries as they want to for free, anywhere within the UK😀 As a library worker, I was sad to see some folk have restrictions.
Happy Sunday
Claudia says
I guess it’s trickier here – American is huge. But that would be nice.
Stay safe, Dee Dee.
Linda Piazza says
A friend and I, separated by many states, are reading books together this season. I just finished Andy Borowitz’s Profiles in Ignorance. What a wickedly funny streak he employs! Next up is John Irving’s newest novel. That one is a tome and may take us into this time next year.
kathy in iowa says
love your idea of a long-distance book club. thanks, linda!
hope you, your friend and your families are all well and happy. stay safe!

Claudia says
That’s such a neat idea, Linda!
I love John Irving. Let me know what you think of it.

Enjoy your book.
