What are you Reading?

November 13, 2022 at 9:25 am by Claudia

Puzzle in progress. Will I finish it today? We’ll see. Thanks for this fun puzzle, husband!

Big sigh of relief for the news about the Senate. That got me so jazzed last night I had to force myself to calm down so I could go to sleep.

We woke up to some more rain, though it seems to have stopped now. It’s a gray, damp day and the temperature will be much colder than it’s been lately. Tomorrow night, the temperatures go down to 22 degrees, so that will be it for the porch plants. They have done beautifully this year and I thank them for their service.

Sigh.

Since I have nothing else to share today, how about we answer this question: What are you reading?

I’m in the middle of The Shadow Murders  by Jussi Adler-Olsen.

Stay safe.

Happy Sunday.

Love the puzzles…reading books for Netgalley…Daughter brought me several from publishers…finished 6:20 Man. Baldacci they sent her the hardback…she receives boxes of books monthly………also a Grisham and several others from her…like the new Mary Higgins Clark and Alifair Burke…although Clark is deceased, it was a sequel to one of her books…I have loved every book by Clark…on another note…has anyone watched the new season of the Crown? New actors and actresses…any thoughts? I have watched it into the night, but in my opinion….well…I will wait…

We’re in the middle of watching it now. I have some issues with the casting this season but it’s always a high quality production and we’re enjoying it. More than that I won’t say because most of us have just started watching it.

I am in two minds whether or not to watch this 5th series. I thought the first two were excellent but I really didn’t like the last one. It felt like someone had said “We need to sex it up and add far more villains to keep our viewers”
It got to the point where all the Royal Family except for Diana were dreadful. Also, so many inaccuracies, there was one scene where someone announced that Diana was expecting a second child but in reality, Harry was already six months old at this point.

Hopefully without giving away any spoilers, it’s been reported in the British press that our former Prime Minister, John Major has stated that the conversation between Charles and himself never took place, calling the scene ‘Barrel-load of malicious nonsense’

      Happy Sunday

I did not like the new cast and I find this season SAD, I guess because I know the ending in real life. AND I’m always wondering “Did that really happen?” I really don’t think I’ll watch the next season.

beautiful puzzle. and a great photo of it (i think i can see where a piece needs to go … ha).

always sad when plants go (happens a lot around here … i don’t have a “green thumb”), but you sure put your heart into them and gave/give them good care.

hope you stay warm like your heart.

very cold here. thursday morning it was about 65 degrees. by mid-afternoon the temperature had dropped to maybe half that. friday and yesterday it didn’t get above freezing (so we bundled up and walked in windy 26-degree temperatures). and we had snow flurries yesterday. still not ready!

to your question … the Bible and agatha christie. i always like when you ask this question because i obviously get so many book recommendations (thank you and everyone else here) and i like learning more about you all. don’t really need the recommendations as i have a few unread books here (haha), plus i have nearly filled with book titles and author names a blank book my sister made me. not a problem!

hope you, don and everyone else have a very happy sunday. stay safe.

Fab puzzle! Enjoy a mellow day. Yes, Rosemary must come in soon, too. She can take cold. But not Michigan cold!

I’m reading two things — The Gershwins and Me by Michael Feinstein (it’s dense and easy to pick up and put down and return) and “A Line to Kill.” Horowitz. I had to climb over a four-feet, five-deep stack of books to get it at Costco. It was worth the effort.

I’m nearing the end of The Nameless Ones by John Connolly. It’s not my favorite of the Charley Parker series, but he’s such a good writer that he keeps me interested. (Laughed out loud at his description of a certain type of man—of which there are way too many for my liking down here—as resembling a big toe!) I’ve read quite a few in this series, though in no particular order. It’s just in the order of what I can get through my library. Still it seems to work.

I just came inside from trying to winterize some of the stuff on my patio. I have a lot of perennials in large patio pots, including some hydrangeas that are still blooming. My nephew moved all the pots to a more protected area a couple days ago . I just covered everything with a frost blanket because we have a freeze warning for tonight. After having 70 degree temps. a few days ago, it’s now cold and blustery.

Seems like our country is finally saying no to the crazies! I love Bill Gates who is giving all the counting updates from Maricopa County. Such a nice, patient man. He deserves a nice, long vacation after this. I am reading Distilled Genius by Susan Branch. It is a book full of her favorite quotes and stories. I am in the middle of reading “The Ways We Hide” by Kristina McMorris. Through the reading of this book lead me to put on hold at our library a book about Houdini. Didn’t know that he (Houdini) while traveling through Germany and Russia as a magician would report back his findings during WWI as a spy. The book is “The Secret Life of Houdini: the Making of America’s First Superhero” by William Kalush and Larry Sloman. I think NPR did a story about this.

I’m reading Matthew Perry’s memoir and I really don’t why as I never watched “Friends” on TV, but something struck me when he was being interviewed by Diane Sawyer and I guess I just kinda like him and wanted to know more. I just lean more and more to non-fiction although I know I could benefit from some good escape with a fictional story.

Another sunny, beautiful day in Southern Calif; temp was 59 degrees when husband walked the dog at 9:30am PST (after an overnight of mid-40s). I’m loving the clearness of the fall days; for some reason and it’s a welcome development, we’re not getting hit with agricultural burning on the best days (the farmers would wait for those clear days/cooled-down from summer, to burn old citrus/avocado groves to make space for new plantings although they get incentives to chip rather than burn), so it’s an absence of a smoke-filled valley. And the ocean/offshore-islands views off our long coastline have been stunning. I love the autumn here.
