What Day Is It?

September 8, 2016 at 9:27 am by Claudia

Is it Wednesday or Thursday? I had to stop and think about it. You have to know these things, especially when you close every post with “Happy _____” (fill in day of the week).

9-8-easternswallowtail

This swallowtail was huge, but he wouldn’t stay still for long and flew away before I could get any more photos.

9-8-mgbud

Hello, morning glory bud! Soon, my friends, soon. By the way, I googled to see what moonflower buds look like and they look exactly like a morning glory bud. So whatever I thought I saw on the moonflower was not a flower bud. Sigh.

9-8-beebalm

Much of the bee balm has gone to seed, but a few stalwarts remain. I love that splash of red.

9-8-geranium

The geraniums that live in the whiskey barrels are still going strong. Right now, each of the barrels is chock full of blooms.

9-8-pinklimelight

Limelight hydrangeas start to turn pink in the fall. I love this little tinge of pink that has just started to appear on the blossoms.

It’s really hot here right now! What the heck? We really need rain; I know many of you feel the same. The grass is brown in places, I seem to be constantly watering the memorial garden and the chicken wire fence garden, as well as all of the plants on the porch. And the porch floor is dotted with leaves – leaves that are turning color and have fallen from the sugar maple.

No!

Don has to go into the city today. I’m hanging around here. I hope to get a walk in today.

I know. Exciting life, right?

Happy Thursday.

I also love that pink tinge on the hydrangeas…looks like watercolors running together and I love it. Glad your morning glories will bloom for you! It’s a two-morning glory morning around here today. And that’s as good as it gets this year, I guess. They started early and gave us a single bloom once or twice a week. That’s it. Very strange.

Who knows why? It looks like I’m going to get a lot of blooms (fingers crossed) but I’m not sure I’ll get any moonflowers.

Lovely pictures of your flowers. Sometimes it feels like this summer will never end. We have a few falling leaves too. I’m enjoying some more alone time today. Not quite sure what kind of project I’ll get started on yet. Hope you get your walk in.

I had another MG bloom open up this morning!! Sad that I can keep count of them. With the huge vining they have produced, it is almost a joke with the few and far between blooms this year. Another mystery provided by Mother Nature, I guess!! Still hot here, as well. We did get nearly 2 inches of rain over the past few days, and we appreciate that. The miserable humidity we can do without. Maybe by the weekend…..

Also,,,,, have to ask about mums! Everywhere I have gone, they are out!! Do people really buy their mums BEFORE Labor Day??? I think of mums as after LD. Oh, well,,,, guess it shows what I know! Hope you get your walk in, and Happy Thursday!!

      We need rain!

What the heck is it with the mums? I’ve noticed it, too. I guess it’s like every seasonal change that’s ruled by marketing. It just keeps getting pushed earlier.

Hot and terribly dry here too. But I’m not yet ready for fall. Actually, I do like fall, but it is followed closely by winter. I’m not fond of winter. Beautiful flowers you have. I have kept mine alive by watering, but they are definitely NOT thriving. Oh, for some rain!!!! Have a peaceful day.

I’m not ready yet, either, Dottie. I need a bit more time, though my gardens are telling me to ‘get with the program.’

I hope I get hydrangea blooms next year. I had to transplant my hydrangea from a once sunny-ish corner that turned really dark when the pine trees matured. It has come back nicely, but apparently putting all its efforts into growing rather than budding. Have a productive quiet day. I’m still not able to do much except reading and watching TV. I’m feeling cabin fever, especially not being able to do my crafts. But, arm is getting better.

I’m getting ready to transplant those peonies. Just have to pick a spot and have Don dig a little planting bed.

I’m so happy your arm is getting better!

We have a real feel of 100 degrees today…so humid…waiting for the storms to arrive later..I pity Don for being in the hot city today…I am grateful for what few flowers are left…they are slowly fading away…Exciting life?..not at the moment..but soon enough you will be away working and longing to be at home having some not so exciting days…Happy hot Thursday…yeah that’s right Thursday…

Hot, humid & ickyish here too. And I know why. Because it is ALWAYS hot when school starts again [it’s the first week here in Rochester]. Starting as a student and then later as a teacher, I noticed that we always get a burst of heat and humidity just before school begins which continues into the first few days. It never fails – Summer’s last hurrah. Makes sense too, since Fall doesn’t officially arrive for 3 weeks. I guess Summer is completely entitled. And I don’t mind, because as much as I love/look forward to Fall, Fall means Winter is coming right along behind it. Enjoy your Wednesday! 😀

It’s always that way. It was that way when I was a student and also when I was a teacher. I’m sure glad I don’t have to teach in these temps anymore!

Ii always think moonflower buds look like soft swirl ice cream! We had 5 moonflowers last night but we’re in the South-did you know that with patience you can watch the flower unfold? Its fascinating!

They do. So do morning glory buds. I’m afraid I might have got the seeds in the ground too late to see any flowers before the first frost. If so, I’ll be disappointed, but I’ll plant them again next year.

It has been so hot I’ve had to really watch how long I’m outside. I went to the library today and a used bookstore and had fun! Just ate an early dinner (fresh steamed asparagus and a baked potato). Life feels good today.
    hugs,

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
