Watching my pretty flowers open. That book you see will be reviewed a week from Monday.
Almost finished with this book. What a great writer Louise Penny is!
Enjoying my cozy little bedroom here in my home-away-from-home.
And the amazingly high ceilings.
Working. Writing little Post-It note reminders. Using my much loved Filofax to keep track of my daily rehearsal schedule. I’ve tried using the calendar on my laptop and on my iPhone. They just don’t do it for me. I like to write things down by hand, whether it’s a list of things to do, a grocery list, or appointments. Somehow the act of writing by hand helps me to remember and makes it real, not virtual.
It’s been a busy week. I had planned on going home for a couple of days, starting this evening. But my plans were foiled by our car. Now, something’s wrong with the exhaust system. Very noisy. We’re crossing our fingers that its just a missing flange but nothing can be done about it until tomorrow. Think positive thoughts for our car, okay? Don’s going to drop it off tomorrow while he goes into the city for an audition.
I’m so enjoying Netflix and the options it gives me. If you’ve read the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo trilogy, I highly recommend the Swedish film version of all three of the books. The American film version of the first book in the series was good but it left out some key plot points as well as one or two of the characters, which I found irritating. But the Swedish version takes its time, tells the whole story, and really holds true to the author’s vision. Excellent. I just finished watching the final episode last night. Don tells me House of Cards starring Kevin Spacey is great, so that’s next on the agenda. (He’s also enjoying Netflix. We’re converts.)
Homesick. I cried a little yesterday when I realized it was a no go for the visit home. But today promises to be busy and that helps. Tomorrow? Don’t know what the heck I’ll do. Read. Take a walk. Maybe do some sewing, but I’m not inspired yet. Maybe the creative muse will strike?
Happy Sunday.

I hate the uncertainty of car repair bills…putting good thoughts out that is not much. Sorry it was a difficult evening because you could not go home. As Dorothy would say….there is no place like home!
Claudia says
You got that right, Ann!
Doris says
Hi Claudia, Our car is going in tomorrow for muffler noise also_ I hope we both don’t get a large bill.:( Hope you have some fun today planning your next quilt! Doris
Claudia says
I worked all day long until 7 pm, Doris! No time to think about anything other than work.
Vera says
HI Claudia, Sorry about your upcoming car repair. I hate that! And hate being dependent on cars, but such is life. I tried to get into the books (Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), but just couldn’t. Perhaps I’ll find time to check out the movies. Have you ever read “Out Stealing Horses” by Per Petterson? Highly recommend it. The writing is wonderful. Hope you enjoy your Sunday. I’m off to go visit my Dad while my husband is meeting an out-of-town friend for a hike.
Claudia says
Thanks for the recommendation, Vera!
Linda @ A La Carte says
Fingers crossed for your car! Sounds like you have much to enjoy even though the trip home didn’t work out.
hugs,
Linda
Claudia says
Well, I have no idea what to do with myself now, since I’m off tomorrow and Tuesday. Wish I could be home.
Debra @ Homespun says
Ah, so sorry about the car and that you couldn’t go home! :( Yes will cross fingers.
Ok so do you need a smile or a laugh? I have been using your crochet loose flowers here and there ( on a pillow, things like that ) but the other day I put a hair-thingy through it and used it as a super duper pretty pony tail holder on Kate….but the laugh is what she got Brent to do later on http://www.thehomespun.com/ruination-and-other-randoms/ The pic is at the bottom of post
Meanwhile I LOVE how this crochet flower looked in a little girls hair ! So did she! :)
Claudia says
I’ll go look at your post, Debra. I’m tickled to think of that flower in a a little girl’s hair.
Judy Clark says
Sorry you didn’t get to go home! I know you’ll find something to keep you busy and make the time pass.
Have a wonderful Sunday!
Judy
Claudia says
Thanks, Judy.
GinaE says
I’m so sorry you didn’t get to go home. I understand so well how that would recharge your batteries to see Don and Scout. Keeping my fingers crossed about your car. I also understand the stress of such unexpected repair bills. Hugs to you!
Claudia says
Thanks, Gina!
Donnamae says
Positive car thoughts coming your way! We just heard a new noise a couple of days ago in our car, and you know what that means…$$$! Sorry you can’t make it home…hope you find something interesting or creative to do! ;)
Claudia says
Me too. Turns out I have both Monday and Tuesday off.
Nancy Blue Moon says
So sorry to hear you couldn’t go home for a visit again..I’m sure that two times in a row is frustrating for you..I will keep my fingers crossed for the car repair and for Don’s audition..Hugs
Claudia says
Thanks, Nancy.
Sue ( wicked faerie queen) says
Everything looks so cozy but I’ll bet you can’t wait to be home. I agree with The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo Triology. I have read them 3 times and just watched the films for the 4th. time. I love Swedish and Danish films anyway but these were amazing. Did not like the American version they took too many liberties changing the ending.
Hope you get home soon Claudia.
Sue
Claudia says
I felt the same way about the American version; I very seldom like how American filmmakers adapt novels.
Nancy K. says
Claudia, have you been to Elizabeth Park? Try a google image search of Elizabeth Park Rose Garden …….. If you decide to go, allow a couple of hours, at least. If I still lived in the area, I would offer to take you there. The rose garden at Elizabeth Park was, and still is, one of my favorite places on earth.
Claudia says
I’ve heard of it. I’ll have to check out how to get there, Nancy. Thanks for reminding me about it!
Pat says
Aw, Claudia.
A disappointment, I’m sure about not getting to go home for a couple of days.
But things happen for a reason. You may not know what that is right now, or ever… just glad everyone is safe and sound. Hope your creativity gets a spark of some little something and you’re able to write about it and tell us all about it.
I’m looking to create some little baskets I saw in the Mennonite Bakery, here in our town.
I just saw someone do some with paper this week on a blog, then yesterday while getting lunch meat and cheese and tomatoes at the bakery, I saw the same thing made with tea-towels!
I’m inspired. I want to sew on my new machine. I’m also hoping to make new covers for the baby swing and highchair… for the arrival of the new grandbaby!
Have a great week… hope you get to relax a little bit on your days off. I know you miss Don and Scout. Praying you don’t get too lonely or homesick. ~ Pat
Claudia says
Feeling pretty homesick at the moment, Pat. Ah well.
Dawn says
I always find a book to be so much better than the move. I have not seen either version of “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” but want to. If you are free today, give me a call and we can chat:) I enjoy your company and it may keep your mind off being homesick:) XO
Claudia says
I’ll call you tomorrow, Dawn. I worked until 7 pm and I’m just finishing my dinner!
Laura says
So sorry you didn’t get to go home, Claudia. I hate car repairs. My car is so old, I am not even sure what holds it together anymore. Loved that book and I am now onto the next one in that series. Hope your day proves to be a wonderful one. xo Laura
Claudia says
Thank you, Laura!
Connie says
I was so bored when hubby recently went on a camping trip without me. I did get a lot accomplished while he was gone however. I called the carpet cleaners go get this filthy carpet cleaned and it feels so much better walking on clean carpet. Cleaned the house and it stayed clean for a few days before he came home. Did the laundry. Couldn’t find anyone to “lunch” with me so got to-go from Applebees. Caught up on a few things. Rather boring without my sweetheart around and couldn’t wait for him to get home on Saturday. Love that man to no end. Later in the month we’ll head to San Bernadino/Moreno Valley to visit our son and that’s always a treat so see my baby.
Like you, I absolutely have to write it down on a sheet of paper. I don’t use my Mac “dashboard” much at all. Always loved the “written word” more than anything. Visual woman here. Take care, it’s not much longer, sweetpea!
xoxo,
Connie
Claudia says
Visual woman here, too. 6 more weeks, Connie, more than I usually spend here when I’m coaching a show.
Melanie says
So sorry you didn’t get to go home. Hope nothing major is wrong with your car. Car repairs are a sore spot with me right now…my son’s old Honda is still in the garage all taken apart because of all the work he’s been doing on it. It’s been one thing after another. He’s supposed to be moving out on Friday…this car had better be moving with him, too!
Claudia says
Thanks, Melanie!
Gina says
House of Cards is fabulous. There are two versions – the U.S. version with Spacey and also a U.K. version. Also check out Breaking Bad on Netflix. It’s addicting!
Claudia says
I think I saw the British version, Gina, though I’m not absolutely sure. And I’m very familiar with Breaking Bad! I’m going to watch the 1st episode of the final season tonight on AMC.
Paula says
We just got our car serviced and diagnosed. It will cost us $2200 for the head gasket repair, $650 for brakes, &200 for a new latch for the back hatch, we need new tires etc…cheaper than a new car, but there goes every penny out the window (again). I feel your pain. I hope your car problem is fixable and not too expensive. I’m sorry you weren’t able to get home this weekend. I hate to think of you in tears, homesick and missing Don and Scout. I will say a quick prayer for you and send cheery thoughts your way!
Claudia says
Thank you so much, Paula!
grace says
More encouraging thoughts Claudia, your car chugging along happily with the three of you enjoying the ride and the beautiful country scenery out there! Weeks is already sounding significantly better than months. Also being someone who feels paper and writing utensils enhance my thinking, I wonder if checking off the days might help even a touch in keeping the sadness at bay. Feeling for you and wishing you the best.
Veronica Roth says
Ugh, car repairs! I’m very lucky when Robert and I are together because we usually manage all car repairs, (including the head gasket to one car last summer), ourselves. But when we’re in separate countries I panic when something happens to one of my cars! I feel your loneliness for home. I have two homes but it’s never the same without R with me in one. :( Hope your job goes smoothly and you get to go home soon. By the way, I hate cilantro but love duvets, and also love quilts. :)
olive says
Hi Claudia, I absolutely agree that the Swedish version of Dragon Tattoo was the better film. I have watched them twice. Once with Joe and once with CC. xo, Olive
