What’s New on Wednesday

December 1, 2010 at 11:17 am by Claudia

The first day of December has emerged as a gray, rainy, somewhat depressing day weather-wise. We’ve seen no snow yet, although we have seen a few flakes that were here one minute, gone the next. Today’s temps will be in the 50’s, which is a bit balmy for December. Though I love seeing all the Christmas decorations throughout Blogland, this house will continue to be a No Christmas Decorating Zone for another week or so. I just can’t decorate this early. I’ve never been able to. If decorations are up too soon, I get used to them. I no longer see them. They lose their magic. And I want them to be magical. I suppose this is also a reaction to the over-commercialization of Christmas, where every store seems to trot out the Christmas decorations as soon as Halloween has passed. In good time, they will appear. In good time.

What’s new here at MHC? After being locked into a 2 year cell phone contract with AT&T, we finally made our escape and went to Verizon.

I have nothing against AT&T, my Dad worked for them for 40 years, but their coverage out here in our little town is simply terrible. Our town continues to dither about a cell tower. Things being what they are, Verizon has the best coverage here. Now, when the power goes out, we can actually call the power company.  When I get a business call, I will no longer have to get in the car and drive to an area where I can hear the message. Yesterday, I actually spoke to a colleague about a potential coaching job while working in my studio. It’s a big deal here.

See, I’m not lying. I have been working in the studio. The quarters are tight, but I have to say I am proud of how it all flows. Yesterday, I had the ironing board set up, the cupboard doors open, the sewing machine humming; all to the sound of Don’s guitar as he practiced downstairs.

I’ve also been doing more of this:

Another scarf in Mochi Plus. Gorgeous colors, aren’t they? The addiction continues. I hope to take some photos at our new yarn store very soon. Today is too gloomy and dark. Hopefully, tomorrow.

If you live anywhere near Shelburne Falls, MA, Don is playing at a wonderful cafe called Mocha Maya’s this coming Saturday at 8:00 pm. You can find them here.  Don’s a wonderful entertainer and I can guarantee you’d have a great time.

What are you up to today?

We’ve always had Verizon and know it to be the best. I doubt you’ll be disappointed, sweets. I like the phone also. I’m due for a new one. I’ll take a look at that one at our local Verizon store.

Snowing like crazy today. Hubby has already shoveled 7-8 inches and will have to do it again today because of what this storm is putting down now. It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas here!

    xoxo,
    Connie

    Hi Claudia!

Oh how I wish I lived closer…. I’d love to come and listen to Don… Still waiting for that album. :-)

I have the decorations up…. it seems if I don’t start early I don’t have long enough to enjoy them… EVERYTHING comes down on the 26th. I adore it until Christmas….then it’s gotta go.

One of these days I’m going to post my sewing room….not finished yet….it’s VERY tiny too….. But I’ve turned out a gazillion slipcovers and loads of curtains in that tiny space.

Having a yummy giveaway…. come on over!

    Huggies,
    Spencer

We have Verizon because of it’s coverage however in some rural areas in Georgia there still are few towers. I am doing a whole bunch of laundry and Joe is taking me out to eat tonight! ♥O

I was glad to see your post today; it’s like getting a phone call from a friend (: I would be content with just a sprinkling of decorations ~ but I have a gaggle of geese that meet here every Monday night, and they look forward to my decorating. So I put the tree up (while listening to Josh Groban because I don’t have a hubby that can sing), put the kettle on and threw a log on the fire. Done!

Hi Claudia, today is definitely a day to stay at home. I rescheduled my day and will be working on Friday, which is okay because FHFB is working on Friday as well. Today was the day that I made turkey vegetable soup and chocolate chip/oatmeal/pecan cookies! Ciao, bella!

You’re right, those colours are gorgeous! Guaranteed to brighten gloomy winter days. It’s not winter down here but it looks like it outside, we are having way more rain than is ‘natural’ and days and days of thick cloud this week – in fact seems pretty much the same as at your place except quite a few degrees warmer :)

Well, we talked today. So you already know what I’m up to. Figured out why I couldn’t put that darned tree together. The hole had a dent in it and that’s why the second piece wouldn’t fit. That has been remedied. But now I’m not in the mood any longer. And so it sits. I start my decorating early. But d-r-a-g it out. I wish I could be there to hear Don!

Funny enough, but our temps are actually getting into your territory. That makes my Canadian blood happy here in FL. I am with you on holding off on the decorating. I understand those who like to use their Thanksgiving weekend to do those honors, but I usually wait awhile. Maybe because I have a son born in December. When he was little we used to wait until after his birthday (Dec 20th!) to decorate so he could have his day. This year he rolls into town on the 23rd and it will be the first birthday in 26 years I haven’t had with him. But he will arrive to a fully decorated house! Have a great week and hope that drizzle turns to flurries. Ann

Oh now we could talk for free!!! lol!

I’ve been decking the halls all day. I can’t help myself. I crank up the carols and go for it! I have to get that done before I can start my gift making or I won’t get it done and I have seven little ones counting on it. I know what you mean about having them up too long though. I don’t usually do a tree, they just dry out too fast. I have a little fake one I may put up this year for the grands.

Thank you Claudia for the well wishes. It means so much to me to have you come by and let me know that you are happy for me. Today I was walking around the house looking at all the funny and ugly things in the house, like my popcorn ceilings and some unfinished wiring (actual wires hanging out of the wall) not live ones yet though)) and thinking how funny it would be to do a post on all the ugly stuff in the house. Somedday I want to do that, but if I told my husband I was going to show his unfinished projects he would break his neck to get them done. And I don’t want him to break his sweet neck because of me.
It would be such a treat to hear your hubby’s music.
    big hug

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
