I sat here this morning with absolutely no idea about what to blog about today. Truly.
I looked through my photos, hoping for some inspiration.
I racked my brain.
Nothing.
I finally found some photos to edit and figured I would simply start writing and see if I came up with anything blogworthy.
And…I couldn’t get on my site.
I tried again and again. Nothing. The server was down.
It occurred to me that maybe the Universe was giving me an excuse not to blog!
I called my host and was on hold for several minutes. And just as someone finally came on the line, the blog was back up again.
So I guess I have to write something.
The truth is, yesterday was windy and raw and the high winds went on all day. Scoutie and I hunkered down and not a whole lot happened. I talked to Don several times as I always do, I read, I messed around with some cosmetic changes on the blog, I washed the sheets, made some cornbread – nothing very exciting.
I’m ready for spring. Ready for some work outdoors, for something to jumpstart me out of the same old, same old. I haven’t been able to get motivated.
But I will.
Scoutie and I will take a walk today. That will help.
Writing a blog post every day isn’t always easy. Most of the time, it is. But today? Yikes, it was hard. Really hard.
Let’s close with another shot of Scoutie in my hat. Just because it makes me laugh.
Happy Thursday.
Vera says
Hi Claudia and happy wind-diminished (hopefully) Thursday. Even if you can’t think of something to write, your pictures are always beautiful…thanks for sharing them. Love the shot of Scout in your hat — too cute and it did make me laugh out loud.
Claudia says
She’s a cutie, alright! Thanks Vera!
Carolyn Marie says
I have the blahs today too. It was forecast to rain all day, which I was excited about because to me rain means spring. This mornings’ forecast is rain changing to snow! When will this end?
Claudia says
Oh no! A pox on more snow!
We have rain in the forecast for tomorrow, Carolyn.
Sue says
You write so well, with so much expression. The angle of your picture make me smile, laugh. Thank you.
Claudia says
You are very welcome, Sue. Thank you.
Linda @ A La Carte says
I have always admired anyone who blogs daily. I would never have that much to write about. Still I love a visit with you each day even if it’s just to tell us you have nothing to say! and photos of Scout always always make me smile!
hugs, Linda
Claudia says
Thanks so much, my friend!
Judy Ainsworth says
Claudia, You have never disappointed me not once! Even a post about nothing, you would be able to make interesting. Oh How that Scout indulges her Ma! Makes me smile too! -Judy A-
Claudia says
She puts up with a LOT! But I think she secretly likes it.
Linda @ Itsy Bits And Pieces says
Ordinary life can be a very good thing…love the photo of Scout!
Claudia says
Yes it can, Linda. Thanks so much!
Betsy says
I laughs out loud when I saw that last picture of Scout. What a cutie. The blanket on the bed is also beautiful.
Blessings,
Betsy
Claudia says
Thank you, Betsy. The quilt that the sun is shining on is one I made.
Deb says
Just know that your daily posts are SO appreciated. They don’t have to have a purpose or be wordy or thought-provoking or philosophical – they just have to be you. Do you remember the days when people would send postcards? My grandma would send just plain post cards with some basic up dates to my mom back in the 60s and 70s. It was just a nice way to stay in touch. That’s the way I feel about your blog posts – a nice way to stay in touch. Oh yes, they often are so interesting, funny, gorgeous photos, etc. But just knowing that your post will be out there is one of my little highlights of my days!
Claudia says
I do. I loved getting postcards. I think my grandmother’s generation did that a lot. Thank you for your kind words, Deb.
Donnamae says
Scout looks cute as ever! Well, I’m amazed at what you do blog about….and everyday. So, if you can’t think…you can’t think! I think I am just bored…I’ve even cleaned out my dreaded linen closet…ben avoiding it for at least three years! Found some interesting things…there’s a lot of things in my linen closet, not all towels! I’m starting to plan out my flower containers, and making notes. I even splurged on a magazine yesterday..Container Gardening…to get some inspiration. It’s raining here today…what can I clean next? ;)
Claudia says
I’m bored out of my mind, Donna. I need Spring, I think. I’ve done some reorganizing and cleaning out, but some days I just can’t get too excited about anything like that.
I think I need my husband, too. A week and a half, and he’ll be back home.
Donnamae says
Being bored together is a lot better than being bored alone! ;)
Sheila says
Hey Claudia. I really got a good giggle of Scout in your hat ;-). What a cutie pie. Have a great rest of thenday
Claudia says
You too, Sheila!
tracy says
I agree with Deb….it’s just nice to have you there ;-) and you can ALWAYS put up pictures of Dame Scout and make Me happy ;-)
Claudia says
Dame Scout is very photogenic, Tracy!
Nancy Blue Moon says
Saying hi..I’m here everyday is enough for me..I enjoy pictures of Scout being her adorable self anytime!
Nancy Blue Moon says
By the way..I really like that picture of the little cherubs..is there a story behind that?
Claudia says
There’s a story about it somewhere on the blog. I got it in San Diego and it was, for me, a big splurge. But I had seen it off and on for a year and I finally got it. Someday I’ll tell the story again.
Claudia says
Oh, thank you, Nancy!
Dawn says
I wonder if you didn’t write for a day, how many emails you would get wondering what happened? Love the pic in your bedroom I can see the snow out the window. We are getting snow and freezing rain again right now. I think Spring is never coming.
Claudia says
I think I’d get a lot of emails, Dawn! Last time I did that was when Riley died and people immediately started worrying. We’re getting rain tomorrow, but hopefully, no snow!
Chris k in Wisconsin says
I don’t know what I would think if your email didn’t show up each day! You always find something to talk to us about! The picture of Scout made me LOL!!!! :-) You don’t need to entertain us, just a minute chat feels like a daily connection!
I am glad the winds died down and you & Scout can go for a walk today. It is raining here. Good day to “putz” about the house.
Claudia says
We’re getting your rain tomorrow, Chris. We just got back from our walk and Scout is sleeping in the ‘tunnel’ at the moment.
An Enchanted Cottage says
Yes, I tried to visit last night and could not get your blog to open so I figured you were having some kind of problems. Scout sure is adorable in your hat. I think you need to find her one that matches yours – with ear holes, of course. It was bitter cold and extremely windy here yesterday, but at least the snow missed us. These days I’m looking for a silver lining wherever I can. Take care, Claudia,
Donna
Claudia says
I heard the same thing from a reader in Australia, but I was able to get on last night, so I figured it was a glitch on her end. Turns out they were doing work on the server.
Oh, that wind was terrible, wasn’t it?
Liz says
Sweet Scout! : )
Claudia says
Thank you, Liz!
Janie F. says
Scout looks so adorable in your hat! Glad you were able to hunker down yesterday since it was so windy out. Gosh Claudia, I’m always amazed at how you come up with something to write about every day. Even today the picture made me chuckle. Sometimes I think our brains just get tired and need to take a little break. That’s one reason I love working in the yard this time of the year. You can just work and not really think about anything in particular. It’s overcast here today but some relatives have gone to the beach, not my idea of a great day with it also being kind of cool but hey, to each his own. Hope you and your girl have an awesome day!
Claudia says
My brain feels very tired. All I want to do is read a good book and basically do nothing!
Nancy in PA says
A photo of Scout is plenty for me. And you didn’t blog about nothing, no matter what you think. Look at all the nice comments you’ve received already. You are a hub; a cog in the wheel of the universe, for all of your readers who appreciate your insight and talent and wisdom. Just stick up some of your lovely photographs on the days when you have writer’s blank. Or take some more pictures of Scout playing dress-up.
Claudia says
Oh thank you for your kind words, Nancy!
Kathy says
Miss Scout in your hat made me laugh. Dear sweet little girl!!
Claudia says
She looks rather fetching, doesn’t she?
Kelly says
One of my favorite things is to feel the sun-shine inside on a cold windy day. That’s why I love your pic of the quilt, I could almost feel it and wow am I ever glad we didn’t experience the weather of the north east yesterday!
When you select seeds and plants for your garden, do you use something, like your quilt for inspiration to coordinate colors or do you go out in search of a particular plant for a particular place in your garden or pot on the porch, or do you select plants that “speak” to you in the garden center? Just curious because my physical limitations this year will require me to simplify home and gardens and yours appears planned and spontaneous at the same time.
Claudia says
I just pick plants I like. I may choose something because I’ve read about it somewhere, but basically, I go for what I like and I don’t necessarily care about a color scheme. Of course, I make sure the plant is something that will thrive where I plant it, i.e., shade, sun, etc. But I like a cottage garden that is sort of unplanned and lush.
Tammy says
Even when you write about nothing, you make me think and smile. Hugs to Scoutie! Blessings, Tammy
Claudia says
Aw, thank you, Tammy! Blessings to you and yours.
Bonnie Hitchcock says
You could photograph a shoe and it would be worth blogging about! Your photography is awesome! The lamp is not just a lamp when you get your camera out! Love it!
Claudia says
Oh thank you so much, Bonnie! You made my day!
Lea says
Your blogs are enjoyed immensely by me, no matter what subject you write about. Some are learning
experiences, some are heart rendering and others are joyful. You are more than entitled to an off day, as the
quality of your writing is superior. Thank you for my daily reads.
Claudia says
You are very welcome indeed, Lea. It’s my pleasure.
nancy says
Claudia, just posting a “HI” will do it for me. Your daily blog post is probably an inspiration for many, myself included.
Gives us a bright spot in our day knowing you’re thinking about us, your blog friends!
Claudia says
I think about all of you wonderful people daily – many times a day!
Shirley says
I am so glad you take the time to blog each day. Your blog is one of my favs, it is one of the first ones I read each day.
I hope spring will be here soon for us all.

One of my favorite movies is titled, “The Magic of Ordinary Days”. I really appreciate that you blog every day, I love seeing “what you have for us” each day … even if it’s “just” the magic of an ordinary day!
Usha says
Hi Claudia, love your blog and the way you write. I love specially the postings about Scout and your puppies as I have two adorable girls myself.
Take Care!

Melanie says
I can only imagine how hard it is to blog every single day – I sometimes have a hard enough time with doing so 2-3x/week! Sometimes I’ll think of things I can write about and then those bad little voices in my head tell me it’s boring and that no one would be interested. Or, sometimes I just don’t feel like writing! Today is one of those gray, raw, rainy days here which basically equals no motivation for me. I did manage a blog post today though, too.
Shari says
Claudia, I know your blog is not a recipe blog, but I am interested in you being a vegetarian. I’m curious about the types of meals you prepare.
Thanks,
Shari
Laura says
There are a lot of us who are suffering from the blahs. It makes it very hard to write, but that photo of Scout is worth a thousand words. xo Laura
Teresa says
That girl!!! Scout is such a cutie, any and all pictures of her are welcome. But her in that hat reminds me of winter back there. Some of them just never seemed to end. You know you have a good friend when you can be together without any words passing between you. I think most of your followers (me included) are ok when there are no words. A picture is good. Especially your pictures. How do you manage to get such depth out of your shots amazes me.
Janet in Rochester says
You are much more disciplined than many of us, Claudia. I’m very impressed that you post every day. I think it brings readers back when they know there’s going to be something new most of the time. But you DO deserve to take a break from from time to time. Try to enjoy those days when you’re stumped for a topic. Think of them as a breathing and recharging spell. PS – today’s Scout pic is one of my all-time favorites – she looks like she KNOWS she’s making you smile.

Dear Claudia
Like many of your readers I visit your blog everyday, that’s the first thing I do on turning on my computer-It’s like visiting a friend or calling a relative to ask about how “he or she ” is.No matter how inspired d you are to write.I enjoy your photos very much ,not to say when adorable Scout is the image I see. The way you see ” life” is what I like most.I feel happy with your happiness, I feel worried with your worries and your sadness make me sad.Like the other day when I began reading your post about Realy`s garden I just couldn’t leave a comment , too sad.I loved your boy and your words made me realise I have the same feelings about my dear doggie daughter whom I lost a year and a month ago. So,why not share with us at least a few words about everything you like or maybe ” dislike“? And after all, what about asking Scout to post something when inspiration is gone? Her comments about what she sees aroud her are so funny! Well, go on writing at least to let us know that you and your family( parents included ) are well ,A big kiss for you and Scout!
xoxo Alicia

you know… sometimes there are no words needed… just that picture of Sc
out makes me smile.. lol
i believe if you are free to speak your mind… then when words arent needed you have the permission to just
be silent.. your blog is one of my very favorites and its not always the written words that touch me. its the textures
the colors… the nostalgic images.. and of course Scout in the snow, leaves, mud.. or just sleeping … thank you for
sharing your thoughts
sending big ladybug hugs
lynnl (i think spring has finally sprung here in pa.. we have had rain… and temps above freezing.. whoohooo.. and besides
i see the little wrens gathering twigs and bits to make a nest.)

Making (and eating) cornbread…that would be exciting to me! In fact, perhaps today I will! Good idea!
There are days when I truly enjoy total solitude and do not write blog posts. In my case, no one would be alarmed. I think people would be concerned by your absence!
Haworth says
We had torrents of rain all weekend, Claudia, so even though it was milder outside, it was too wet to do anything. (So far the start of Spring has left me unimpressed!) I’ll bet your cornbread was delicious! I love baking , reading, and puttering around the cottage when I’m homebound. But as you said, it’s time now to get out into the gardens. Soon I hope!
