Holy crap. We have a Nor’easter headed our way – anywhere from 6 to 12 inches of snow is predicted. If you’ve read this blog for any length of time and if you were along for the ride last winter when I was here by my lonesome, you know how I feel about this.
Just in time for Thanksgiving.
But I digress. Let’s take a tour of the dollhouse office/studio and I’ll list where everything came from for you.
Floors: Made by me from popsicle sticks, then painted gray; Wallpaper: ItsyBitsyMini; Moldings and trim: miniatures.com; Planked wall: made by me from larger sticks and painted.
Rug: a gift from Barbara.
Desk: made by me from wood that was stained, and stair spindles from my stash; Desk chair: found in an antique shop; Pillow on chair: a gift made by Casey of Casey Mini; Crate: painted and decorated by me; Tin: a gift from Barbara; Laptop: made by me from a printable found online; Teacup & saucer: from TwelveTimesMoreTeeny, an Etsy shop (Spain); Books: from various sources; Pinboard over desk: made by me from a bashed cupboard (part of which you see in the kitchen over the stove) and backed with wallpaper from Elyse; Shutter on wall: from my stash, painted and distressed by me; Cards tucked into shutter: from printables found online.
Dress form: a gift from Karen, it was black plastic. I painted the base silver and covered the bodice with linen; Work table: miniatures.com (painted by me); Fabric bolts: found at Chautauqua Miniatures; Stool: miniatures.com (painted and distressed by me); Knitting on top of table: purchased by me from a now-defunct dollhouse shop; Tape Measure: A LavenderDilly, an Etsy Shop (Australia); Ribbon: a gift from Judy; Sewing Machine: I have two of them that were gifts from Sharon and Julie; Ironing Board: a gift from Karen.
Cupboard on wall: made, painted and distressed by me from a House of Miniatures Kit given to me by Linda; Books in cupboard: some were gifts, some made by me; Hooks on wall: made by me; Basket: a gift from Jayne; Yarn: purchased by me from a now-defunct dollhouse shop.
We’re off to buy a snow blower. Yikes.
(New post up on Just Let Me Finish This Page: What are you reading?)
Happy Tuesday.
Gillian says
Oh dear – snow (and lots of it) on the way. Thankfully we haven’t had any yet. I’m still in awe of the dollhouse – such intricate details.
Claudia says
Thank you, Gillian!
Linda @ A La Carte says
I love this room of the dollhouse! Oh my, that’s a lot of snow heading your way! Stay Warm!
hugs,
Linda
Claudia says
Lots of snow! Too soon, Linda, too soon!
Vera says
Just love your dollhouse Claudia — everything is perfect! Good luck with the storm. We are supposed to be heading to Pittsburgh tomorrow, but may delay until Thursday. It was 70 here yesterday! I saw where someone said that Mother Nature is going thru menopause – an apt description of this crazy roller coaster weather. Stay warm and snug and have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
Claudia says
It was very warm here yesterday, as well! And now, this storm….
Barbara W. says
We have a lot of snow at the moment with more on the way.
It’s quite pretty, but I wish it could somehow only snow on the lawn and not the road.
Claudia says
Me too. And not on my long driveway.
Chris k in Wisconsin says
The dollhouse posts have been awesome.
Yuk on the weather. We had about 5 inches yesterday. The day before it was near 60* and the little snow we had all melted. Then this.
Yay on the snowblower. As we get older, as noble as it is to shovel snow, the reality is that it takes a toll on our bodies, and we need to take the help from a machine if we can. “We” still shovel when it is just a few inches, but when it is heavy wet snow, and when it adds up and up, the help of our dear snowblower is appreciated. You simply cannot compare shoveling feet and yards of snow with gardening. No way similar at all. People who say it is “just like doing yard work” likely live in a climate that gets 4-5 inches of snow annually….. not 4-5 + feet of snow ~ where we are all walking around with a zombie-like appearance from being isolated and hunched backs because it Never. Ends.
Claudia says
We bought it and it’s snug inside our shed right now. I think this is going to make a major difference for us. Don is very excited!
Donnamae says
You are about to be dumped on…we got over 5 inches yesterday…looks like winter is making an early appearance! Have fun shopping? ;)
Claudia says
Oh, we’re getting at least 8 inches if not 12 inches – this is a big old nor’easter!
Tana says
I was just thinking. I could send you a wallet sized picture of myself that you could frame and put above the fireplace in the dollhouse. What do you think?
Claudia says
Ha! You’re very funny, Tana!
Nancy Blue Moon says
I think this is my favorite room of the dollhouse..a room for being creative..We are expecting 3-6 inches here..I am so very happy to hear you are getting a snow blower..
Claudia says
We bought it this morning. A lot of money for us and it sort of freaks me out….on the other hand, we’re getting too old to shovel all that snow! And this snow will be heavy and wet.
Margaret says
A Thanksgiving nor’easter in 1950 caused us to stay overnight at my grandparents’ house in Sleepy Hollow, N.Y. When we arrived back home in Connecticut , we found the storm had brought down an enormous blue spruce; its top served as our Christmas tree that year.
So glad that you’re getting a snow blower.
Claudia says
Me too! I’m so glad we got one. Now, as I watch the news, they’re saying it might be at least 12 inches…or more.
jeannine says
Just love this room!!! Back when you visited Chautauqua miniatures and mentioned they do not allow photos, I wondered if at that time you saw something/somethings and thought to yourself–wow I could do that??? I have all sorts of ideas floating around in my head and on my sketch pad of little things I could create without much effort. Finding the time to dedicate entirely to cause is the problem :-)
Perhaps the weather forecast will be wrong and the snow will come again another day. If only it would fall on the lawn, and not stick to roofs, roads, sidewalks and other surfaces. Here in the south we almost celebrate our snow days. But, we can certainly sympathize in the “cabin fever” aspect of the weather, with our never seeming like it will ever end scorching temperatures. Stay warm and cozy in the cottage :-)
Claudia says
I probably did, Jeannine, but to tell you the truth, there were SO MANY things there and it was very hot and humid that day. Too much to take in!
I’m afraid the weather forecast is still for a nor’easter. They are powerful storms and they go up the coast – we’ll get at least a foot of snow, that’s what the forecast is saying.
Janet in Rochester says
Oh, Claudia, you and Don will be loving your snowblower, and wondering why in the world you didn’t get one sooner. From the pages of “Duh!” magazine, right? No kidding, one of the best inventions ever. Had to be invented by some middle-aged sick-to-pieces-of-all-this-snow guy somewhere in the Northeast or Midwest. It makes it ALMOST fun to clear away snow. My Dad bought one in Fall 1965 just months before the Big Blizzard of 1966 hit, when we got a storm in Rochester almost identical to what Buffalo got last week. The snowblower made Dad a very popular guy in our neighborhood and it was probably his favorite “big boy toy” of all time. One of my brothers has it now, believe it or not, and it still works, very well. It gets used all the time. Of course this is the brother who’s a bit of mechanical genius, but I think it says a lot for making things out of metal too. PS – I still can’t get over that basket in the dollhouse with the teeny skeins of yarn.
Claudia says
I know. We got it today and I am sure that within the next 24 hours, we will be saying “What took us so long?” Well, the answer is the price, of course. So I’m very grateful we have enough on hand at the moment to make this purchase. My back is also happy!
Betsy says
Love your dollhouse studio/office. We bought a new snowblower this year too. So far no snow so we’re thinking of it as kind of an insurance policy. Hopefully we’ll never use it! Ha! Fat chance of that here in the mountains. Keep warm and safe.
Blessings,
Betsy
Claudia says
You too, Betsy. The snow should be arriving tomorrow morning.
Missy says
I never cease to be amazed by your dollhouse..It’s awesome..We’re getting the snow after you..Keep all you want!!
Claudia says
Oh, I have to share it with you, Missy!
Nancy in PA says
What a calm and comfortable little sanctuary. There is no end to my vicarious enjoyment of your dollhouse, Claudia. Please give Scout a kiss for me.
Claudia says
I will, Nancy!
Doris says
Hi Claudia, I love this room also. Make sure Don locks up the snow blower, it is worth a lot of money with this stormy weather predicted! Take care, Doris
Claudia says
Oh, we always lock things up in the shed, Doris! Never fear.
Susie says
Claudia, Your doll house is adorable. I love how it is looking. So many cute things…the basket on the peg board just makes me smile. I hope you , Don and Scout will be fine through the approaching snow storm. Stay safe. Blessings for a great Thanksgiving. xoxo,Susie
Claudia says
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours, Susie!
Mary Murphy says
