Running a little late today! I was awake for several hours in the middle of the night, but, thankfully, I went back to sleep. I slept until 8:30! Unheard of. So I’m inhaling my coffee in order to wake up enough to write a post.
It’s going to rain today – maybe some storms, as well
Boy, this time of the year is so lush and green and wildflowers are everywhere. I have more fleabane and wild phlox than ever before. I walked around the property yesterday and found wild phlox in little pockets where it has never been before. I love that. Mother Nature is establishing little gardens for me that are full of unexpected delights.
I love my home and gardens.
Quiet: The Power Of Introverts In A World That Can’t Stop Talking arrived in yesterday’s mail. I can’t wait to start it. Another jigsaw puzzle also arrived because I just can’t paint at the moment and after the news of the tragedy in Uvalde and, now, the inaction of the police, I am so full of rage and despair that I think a little puzzle action is needed. It calms me. This time, I am going to be very careful with my back.
Yesterday Don and I went on our monthly date for Five Guys french fries. It’s such a simple thing, but it’s such fun. We have great conversations while sitting in the car eating the fries, and we people-watch as well. But first, we visited Barnes & Noble where I found the new issue of Country Living.
A lovely group of egg cups; simply but beautifully staged. In the top row, second from the left, is my Jadeite egg cup. And in the bottom row, third from the left, is my Delft egg cup from Holland. I didn’t think much about it beforehand, but I’m so glad they included it. My mom gave it to me. When she heard I was starting a collection of egg cups, she started looking for them when she was out and about. This was one of her finds. So it is very dear to me.
It’s a full page in the magazine, so I’m pleased. Don wants me to frame it and I think I will.
Today? I’m taking it easy. I have lots of books to read: I’ve currently got three going, which is rare for me.
Stay safe.
Happy Friday.

You are very fortunate to have all those wildflowers….presented to you by Mother Nature. I found 2 wild violets in my gardens…small cheer.
I enjoyed yesterday’s frog on the dude. Evidently I wrote a comment and forgot to hit print.
Hope you enjoy your many diversions…I will as well. Only two more little things to plant, and I can say I’m done…for now at least. We’ll see if my hibiscus comes back this year. If it doesn’t, I’ll have to find an appropriate substitute. Stay well! ;)

Love the egg cups pic! ;)

We have some wild violets as well. I love them so much!
My hollyhock didn’t come back and it should have. But I can’t afford to buy any more flowers, so that’s that, I guess!
Stay safe.

As soon as I saw the egg cup picture I just knew the jadeite cup was yours. I wasn’t sure about the 2nd one. The one from your mom is lovely and a great memory of her keeping an eye out for you and buying it.
I am also disturbed about the police response. It also sounds like the shooter walked into the school through an open door. There are lessons to be learned from this. My 3 granddaughters go to small town schools and I have to wonder how tight the security is and how our police would react.
Take care
Claudia says
More news has come out today about the timeline. The police did NOTHING.
Stay safe, Marilyn.

Which issue is it in Claudia? I only buy the UK version of Country Living but see our store carries the US one as well and our library does as well. Would love to see it but not sure which issue it is in. Thank you!
Enjoy your beautiful gardens today!
Sincerely,
Chy
Claudia says
It’s the May/June issue. Just came out this week.
Thanks so much, Chy.
Stay safe.
Mary Ellen says
Thanks for identifying your egg cups! I got my issue and was wondering which ones were yours. Yes, you should frame it. (I read your blog daily because we share many pastimes and opinions, but I have not commented. )
Claudia says
Thanks for reading and for commenting today, Mary Ellen.
Stay safe.

great photo of some of your egg cups in a national magazine and that they referenced your jadeite cup! i am especially pleased for you that they included an egg cup given to you by your mother. and i think that’s a great idea to frame that page … a daily reminder of a very sweet memory about your mother looking for and finding something she knew you would want … treasures all.
glad you and don had a nice date out (french fries sound good. so does the “quiet” book and time to read … enjoy!).
those flowers and your secret garden are beautiful … as is your gratitude and love for nature and your home.
going to be hot soon with a long string of days over 90 degrees … too early for that here, especially after three days in a row of my favorite cool, completely overcast and rainy weather. i don’t enjoy or function well in hot/humid weather, but otherwise doing okay.
hope you all are comfy and stay safe.
kathy

Yes, we have rain and storms today and tomorrow and by Monday we’re going to be in the 90s. Not my favorite weather and humidity makes me feel sick.
Stay safe, Kathy.
Shanna says
Well, you are my first pocillovist! Who knew?
Claudia says
Yes, a fancy word for a collector of egg cups!
Stay safe. Sending you a big hug, Shanna.
Barrie says
Good morning…I live in the Bay Area in California, where we are in a never ending drought…..so the picture of your lush garden area looks so inviting! I’d love to be sitting there with a good book, enjoying the quiet…
Claudia says
I sure wish you didn’t have to battle drought, Barrie. If I could send you some of our rain – it’s raining now – I would.
Stay safe.

Your mom would be thrilled about the Dutch egg cup. Yes, framing would be good!
I hope you have a wonderful day and long weekend. I didn’t even realize it was Memorial Day till Thursday night when Rick asked about the cemetery planting. Since i’m not allowed in stores for another week, I couldn’t get the geraniums and he said he would be glad to, so we’ll go to the cemetery Saturday or Sunday (or Monday) during the narrow window between inhalation therapy and infusions. If we’re lucky, lunch too.
I love your monthly dates to Five Guys. Makes me smile!
Claudia says
I hope you’re beginning to feel better, Jeanie.
That Rick is a keeper! What a good guy he is.
Stay safe.

I was reading my Country Living magazine last night and saw that picture and was wondering which egg cup was yours. Didn’t realize you had two included. What a fun item to collect!
Claudia says
Thanks so much, Carrie.

I’m so upset from the news coverage about the Uvalde school shooting that I’ve made myself sick and nauseous, so I have to dial it back today. The interviews coming out with the surviving children have really about driven me off the edge. (It’s not about me; it’s their story, so I don’t even mean to be talking about myself in the face of so many other’s people pain; but when I was at the doctor today, we had a long talk about what to do for my physical and mental ‘absence’ of wellbeing.)
These dearest darlings, the survivors, their sweet little shaky voices, just age 8 or age 10 or 11 — afraid to go back to school ever, because they don’t want to get shot. Practicing active-shooter drills since they were in kindergarten. One little girl is now so afraid of men that she couldn’t talk with a male reporter and only can stand to be around women. So brave, taking the cell phone off her dead teacher to try to call 911, the child herself riddled with shrapnel and still recovering in the hospital. What these babies saw, what they heard — they will need so much professional therapy, love and support.
I wish I could be in Uvalde to take the victim families some food, to just hold their hand or pray with them, listen to them; I wish I had money I could send to help with therapy sessions or funeral arrangements. I just feel so helpless. If you were a Uvalde parent who lost a child, has an injured child, has a traumatized child — and, I haven’t seen the news yet today but it sure sounded yesterday like a botched police response — or if you were the relatives and friends of those two beautiful teachers — what would you be feeling, when the grief is enough, and then there’s the questioning, the fury, the horror? I can’t imagine.
How can we live in this gun-mad/psycho world. If there isn’t significant legislation passed now, there’s just no hope for the U.S./us.
Vicki says
I didn’t mean to not acknowledge the egg cups. My favorite is the Delft. I’m tucking your photo away to look at later when I can fully appreciate it without my mind so clouded with emotion. I’m so happy you got published in the magazine; what a treat for you; I’d definitely give it a frame.
Claudia says
Oh, I’ve been published before – this might be the 5th time? I’m not sure.
Thanks, Vicki.
Claudia says
The police did nothing. While children were calling 911 begging for help, they did nothing.
I can’t get my head around that. And I’m filled with rage.
Stay safe

“Quiet” is excellent. We’ve been passing it around the family. When it comes back my way, I’m scribbling in the margins. It has sparked lots of thoughts and conversations!
Yes to wildflowers. I have volunteer violas sprouting in crannies of our brick patio.
Claudia says
Aren’t wildflowers wonderful?
Thanks, Roxie.
Stay safe.
