Windy Saturday

February 7, 2026 at 9:30 am by Claudia

The wind has kicked up and the wind chill is already below zero. It will get worse as the day goes on. The musical accompaniment to my taps on the keyboard is the constant ringing of the wind chimes on the porch. I always used to say that, because I inherited them from my parents, whenever I heard them Mom and Dad were talking to me.

Well, now they’re yelling at me. Nonstop.

We watched the Opening Ceremony for the Olympics last night. Two things: whatever happened to educating us about the countries represented, identifying their leaders who are shown as the athletes enter the stadium? For heaven’s sake, they didn’t identify Georgia Meloni, the Prime Minister of Italy, nor did they identify Princess Anne and her husband, or the dignitaries from any number of countries. Yes, I know Savannah Guthrie was expected to do the hosting, but there are a whole slew of people working for NBC whose jobs are to research and provide all those facts and bits of information to the hosts. Instead, we heard what countries Shaun White had competed in, as well as information on his ‘brand.’ Now, I like Shaun White a lot, but really? Bob Costas and Jim McKay did all of that and more and that’s why they were so darned good at their jobs.

And  they edited out the boos from the crowd when Vance, aka James Donald Bowman, was shown on the Jumbotron. I’ve since heard them. They were loud. Hey, NBC, that’s called propaganda and it’s what the press does when they bow down to a dictator.

Okay, moving on.

We ran out to the store yesterday to get a few things we needed as at some point today it’s going to be dangerous to to go outside for the rest of the day and for part of Sunday. I ended up dealing with a lot of chores, so I didn’t get around to my miniature piece. But I will today.

Thoughts going through my head: I’m getting the itch to do some handwork. I have a quilt that needs to be hand quilted. Some of it already had been but I have a lot more to go. And then, because of this crazy winter, I’m thinking of crocheting another ripple afghan – this one for Don. If you remember, years ago when I was selling scarves on Etsy, I sold so many that I had to work quickly to replenish the stock and my right wrist really suffered. The end result: I haven’t crocheted for years. But I like the rhythm of it and I think I really need that to counteract the insanity we face on a daily basis. I would use cheap yarn from Michael’s. Crochet is a yarn eater and I want this to be an inexpensive project. I’ll check out thrift stores as well.

Alright my friends, I hope you’re warm and cozy this weekend.

Stay safe.

Happy Saturday.

I was glad to read that our athletes were cheered by the VP was loudly booed. I agree with you about the coverage. I tried to watch but gave up.
It’s good that you are all set to spend the cold weekend in your cozy home with Don. I always see lots of yarn at the thrift stores I visit.
    Stay safe, Claudia.

Will you be getting a warm-up after this weekend? I sincerely hope so. It’s cold here today, but we are promised 30’s+ for the next week. Good-bye snow. Fingers crossed for you.

I think it’s a great idea for you to return to something you enjoyed…crochet work. An afghan for Don sounds perfect.

Stay warm this weekend as best as you can. We have a family thing planned for Sunday….good food and great company, with a smattering of football and commercials thrown in. Enjoy your weekend! ;)

Don was just outside and said it was unbelievably cold.

      Stay safe, Donnamae.

it’s supposed to reach 60 degrees here on monday (19 now so 60 doesn’t seem likely). personally i’d rather it be 32 or below (may winter be winter and now, not in april), but we get what we get. whatever that is, i’ll be glad if that 60 reaches you soon.

my broken back (and especially how it healed) has taken away many things from me and i hate that. and if i couldn’t knit, paint or write anymore? that would also be very tough for me. sorry you’ve been dealing with that loss. sending good wishes for your search for yarn (and getting comfort from that craft-y rhythm) and especially for your wrist when crocheting an afghan for don!

also, your studio space is very pretty and organized. :)

hope the olympics are a good watch with fairness, better reporting …. i will watch some while knitting. also the super bowl.

hope you, don and everyone else have a nice weekend. stay safe.

No 60 on the horizon. I can see 40s in several days, but nothing that hight.

We aren’t really interested in the Super Bowl, but I do want to watch Bad Bunny.

      Stay safe, Kathy.

I miss having a TV and being able to watch the CBC coverage of the Olympics. Much better coverange than what we seem to do. I miss learning about the individual athletes.

Tell Don thanks for the lovely song he posted a FB. It made my day yesterday while at home on my day off, curled up with the kitty, and my knitting!

I always watched CBC coverage when I lived in Michigan. Less hype, better coverage.

Don says “thank you so much!” He was touched by your words, Lucinda.

      Stay safe.

I remember the beautiful scarves you made and sold on eBay. I think crocheting an afghan is a perfect winter project. It will keep you warm as you work on it. I agree with you about the opening ceremonies of the Olympics. Stay cozy. Enjoy your weekend. Hugs, Elaine

Our temps will decrease this coming week but only into the high 50’s.

I’m working on my daughter’s stamp collection. My friend bought two sandwich baggies of loose stamps at a yard sale then sent them to my daughter to add to her collection. I like organizing her stamps so I don’t mind doing something she doesn’t particularly like to do. I’m also incorporating her new purchases from the USPS.

Of course, being a procrastinator, I know I’m organizing stamps instead of printing out tax forms and starting the process. That will be this coming week’s task

I felt guilty enough watching TV or a movie that I finally picked up knitting again. I’ve had my problems with this pattern but now it’s ingrained on my brain!

I agree 100 percent about the Olympics. It had wonderful spectacle but the commentary was lacking (and the editing unnecessary and — well, wrong.)

Love the photo of your office. What a beautiful spot. Keep cozy!

NBC bows to the “pukes” yet the brave people of MN stand up and with faces uncovered day after day. They stand up for their neighbors and democracy. Universities, corporations, law firms bent the knee. I hope they feel shame. I salute all the people across this country who stand up .
I do hope there is a warm up soon for you. I see another huge cold front is moving your way.
    Take Care,
    Kaye

I don’t think the cold front will do much here as the weather is warming up as of Tuesday.

      Thanks, Kaye.

It’s like spring here. We’ve had record temps, and there you are freezing in New York State. The weather around the world is so messed up. The Netherlands have had the snowiest and coldest winter ever. Our trees and shrubs will begin budding.
I have a couple doctor appointments lined up. The specialist is not the right specialist. Oh well…
A couple docs are saying I may have epilepsy, because of my falls and seizures. And my license is being taken away from me. That’s really upsetting.
I haven’t watched any of the olympics, but i might.
Please stay in and stay warm, until the temperatures rise. You and Don can always snuggle!

It seems weird to be looking forward to highs in the 30s as a “warm spell” but that’s 2026 so far! I have decided I am not well suited to life in a cold climate.

I haven’t thought of watching the Olympics – when I was a kid they were very much a family watching occasion but I guess I’ve grown away from it. Someone was joking about the polite Italians making the VP feel at home by booing him.

    Cheers,
    Ceci

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
