Wonders

August 11, 2025 at 8:13 am by Claudia

I had two wondrous experiences this weekend.

On Saturday during the afternoon, I looked outside and saw a Monarch butterfly. He was gliding through the air. He would glide, then land on a plant or flower, then he’d take off again and glide. I called Don to the window and we watched him and I knew he had just emerged from his chrysalis. He was getting used to flying. He would soar over the area between the big garden bed and the memorial garden. I must have watched him for an hour as he discovered who he was, drying his wings, gliding, and resting. Toward the end of that time, he started to vigorously pump his wings. He was getting it. He was growing stronger. Soon after that, he moved on. What a privilege to see him just after he had emerged. To know he came from an egg laid on our milkweed, that he became a caterpillar, then a chrysalis, then this beautiful creature.

There he is. It wasn’t until I did a close up that I saw tears and damage to his wings. I wonder what happened as he emerged? Or right after he emerged?  Nevertheless, he seemed to be fine – strong, and vigorous.

Sunday morning. We got up and I was very groggy. As I always do, after opening the blinds in our bedroom, I walked into the office to open the blinds there. As I walked to the window (blinds still closed) I had the thought “deer.” Then I opened the blinds and there was a deer running down the road in front of our house. He was running right next to our property on the other side of the culvert. I’ve only seen that one other time in the 20 years we’ve lived here. There was no traffic at the time, so he was safe.

But here’s the thing: I had the thought “deer” and then I opened up the blinds and saw a deer.

Can’t quite get my head around that, but it was mystical and beautiful.

As was seeing the Monarch.

Stay safe.

Happy Monday.

Such a positive post that I so needed this morning. I was able to sit back, close my eyes and visualize both the butterfly and the deer. Thank you so much!
    Have good day,

Definitely a special weekend! How nice to see two different surprises! The monarchs are so beautiful, as with most butterflies. It sounds like you “felt” the presence of the deer before you saw it. Enjoy your Monday.

You must have some psychic ability…you ‘felt’ the deer’s presence.
We have had more deer in our yard this year and we often see a momma with 2 younguns. All our hostas have been eaten plus other flowers, even impatiens in pots. I guess that’s the price to have them visit us so often.
    Take care

The deer have been a wee bit destructive here as well, but so has our groundhog!

      Stay safe, Marilyn.

It’s crazy how wildlife and nature are so soothing. Good for you living in such a beautiful place. I know many people are short on money but it’s the basics that actually make us happy. I’m going through my house for garage sale items and I can’t believe the piles of stuff I’ve collected! I’m downsizing!

    Enjoy your week!

It’s absolutely the basics, food, shelter, the beauty of nature, home, love.

Good for you on downsizing. I have to do more of that.

      Stay safe, Darlene.

what wonderful experiences for you. glad for you!

and your thought of “deer”! maybe a wish that was granted? or a premonition or an invitation to you of something beautiful ahead? either way, so beautiful!

i’ve had a couple experiences with such thoughts before. here’s one. about nothing beautiful as a deer, though. it was about a bug (of course it had to be a bug). many years ago, after working both jobs, i came home late one night. walking from my car to the door of the building in which i lived, the words ” … bug in the mailbox …” popped into my head. i thought how weird that thought was, went inside and unlocked my old metal mailbox … and found a “walking stick” bug in there. :o got him outside (eek) and headed upstairs myself. funny thing is that, minus those thoughts, the same thing happened again when visiting my parents in south carolina … i went to get their mail and there was a “walking stick” in their fully-enclosed mailbox, too. haha?!?

    oh, life (and oh, bugs)!

hope you, don and everyone else have a great day. stay safe in every way (next-door neighbor has covid)!

I love walking sticks! They fascinate me. Maybe we have a wee bit of psychic ability, Kathy.

do you see them often on your property?

i rarely see them (am okay with that), but had a third encounter with a “walking stick”. no thoughts about it ahead of time, though. it happened here last year. found one on the side of a tire on my car (parked in my parents’ driveway), and it stayed there for hours.

i’ve only ever seen them moving slowly, like a sloth, and almost mechanically, so “walking sticks” are fascinating, for sure … as long as they stay outside. :)

hope you are having a nice night.

Claudia, You manifested a deer with a thought. I am both impressed and slightly afraid. Please don’t think BEARS before opening the blinds.

    Have a great week.

I would love to see both the monarch and the deer. As I was watering yesterday I saw 2 young mourning doves fly out of a nest high up in our ficus tree. I never even knew the nest was there. I think I scared them when I was watering! I figured they probably needed water though. I have had psychic events happen to me. It is kind of a joke in my family.
Hope you see some more beautiful things in your garden. Take care!
