Most of the time, the outside of my dollhouse faces us as we sit in the living room. Since I’m in this room a great deal lately, watching over my Riley, I sauntered on over to it this morning and turned it so that the inside of the house was facing me.
Yikes.
I haven’t done any work on it for a long while. Some of the rooms are on their way to being finished, others are completely untouched and serve as a catchall for all my wood and trim scraps. I grabbed some paint and a paint brush and redid a side table that was very dark in its former incarnation.
There it is next to the chair. My friend, Heidi, gave me some furniture that was in a dollhouse she got at auction. Most of it is unusable, but a few pieces are just right – like the table.
The den is pretty much finished. I just have to add some crown molding and, of course, some decorations for the walls. (You can tell I was styling these photos – the same basket of flowers that was in the living room is now on top of the cabinet.)
The bedroom needs a bed. I’m envisioning something painted in a shabby white.
The kitchen has the Aga range and a table and chairs. It needs cupboards, a sink and a refrigerator.
The bathroom and the studio are completely unfinished.
Time to get cracking.
By the way, my darn camera has some dust under the top edge of the lens and I have to crop every photo around it. It’s not so much of an issue outdoors, but when I take photos inside the house, oh my goodness, is it annoying.
I want a new camera. I’ve said that before on this blog many times, but I thought I might take this opportunity to gently remind the universe.
Yesterday, I decided to mow the front part of the property and neglected to check the weather. 97 degrees with high humidity. Many hours later, with many breaks sandwiched in, it was finished. What was I thinking?
A little business: the winner of a copy of Night Watch never contacted me, so I drew another number and this time, the winner is Rosedel. Rosedel is a fairly frequent commenter on this blog, but I don’t have her email address. Rosedel, send me an email (look under Contact under my header) with your shipping address and I’ll forward it on to the folks at TLC Book Tours.

Yay! A dollhouse post–woohoo! I love how your house is looking, Claudia. I just acquired my dream dollhouse (two posts ago), and I’ve moved my shabby Cupcake Cottage kitchen into it. That leaves me with an upstairs bedroom and a few other nooks to decorate. Fun! I want a white shabby-style bedroom too. I love what you’ve done with the cabinet in the den. I have that piece too, and I was thinking about tossing it, but now–forget it–it’s staying! I’ll look forward to watching your progress on this project. xo Jennifer

Good morning Claudia. My late husband and I bought a doll house for our daughter when she was about five.. I think we had more fun with it than she did.
It had brick flooring in the kitchen, it was wired for lights, I wallpapered it and made curtains for the many windows, and it has a cedar shake roof.
I cross stitched a rug for the nursery and a friend of mine crocheted a mini-mini-afghan for the Master bedroom.
You are doing a very neat job on your house.. We never thought about crown moulding.. That will be so nice in yours.
I think about your Riley and include him in my prayers.
Have a great day and have fun “playing” dollhouse.

I am so glad that you are back to your dollhouse! It looks wonderful! I am working on a contest due on Labor Day. If I get it done it will be a miracle! Prayers said often for Riley.

It’s nice to see the dollhouse again, Claudia. I feel like I would like to live there, if I were small enough. What a great way to use your design sense and experiment with new ideas. Ann

I am so glad to see more of your doll house. I have found those posts to be some of your most interesting. The decorating is coming along nicely. You might consider an area rug in the sitting room? And, crown moulding in the bedroom?

I have a dollhouse that my husbands uncle made for my daughter. It took him 7 years to make it. It’s 19 years old. Sadly it has never been really played with. I cleaned it up and it in the living room. My 2 year old grand daughter has a few piece to play with in it and she loves it. I love how beautifully you have decorated it yours.

Love the doll house. MY dad made me one too. I had an unfortunate accident with it though and miss it terribly!!!!

What is it about tiny upholstered furniture that is so stinkin’ cute?! That little chair with its pleated skirt is incredible. It all looks so life size through your photos. :-)

This is the first of your dollhouse posts I’ve seen — I look forward to going back and looking at the older posts. I love how you’re furnishing it — the style and styling are right up my alley!
You might enjoy the “miniatures”-themed posts on one of my favorite blogs: http://www.texasmornings.com/. Rita just finished a short series of posts about a miniature wagon set she made — the detail of the accessories is fantastic. She’s highlighted quite a few different miniature sets she’s made over the years — she’s a very creative lady, no doubt about it =).
