A Day of Rest

July 10, 2022 at 8:11 am by Claudia

My favorite time of the summer is when my coneflowers start opening. I have scads of them because they self-seed. Over the 16 or so years since I first planted them, they have popped up everywhere. The deer got some of them this year but now that I’m spraying, no more damage.

First monarch butterfly sighting the other day. I tried to get a picture but he/she flew away before I could get close enough.

I pulled a Claudia yesterday and did way too much, including mowing both sides of the front yard, cleaning, laundry, pulling weeds, pulling out the refrigerator to clean behind it, etc. By the time Don got home from the Farmer’s Market (which was a dud yesterday) I was fried. But hey, the front lawn looks nice! I was trying to get to it before it gets very hot on Monday, and when Don is away, I get much more done. But I’m very tired today, as is Don, so we’ve declared that Sunday will truly be a day of rest.

Here’s a picture of the puzzle I finished the other day – it’s not the greatest photo, but it’s very hard to capture the tiny detail in these city scenes. It’s called The World of Sherlock Holmes.

I just started an Alice in Wonderland puzzle by the same company.  After my flurry of activity yesterday, I sat at the kitchen table and started sorting through the edge pieces and that’s as far as I got.

It’s a quiet Sunday morning, though for most of the day yesterday I thought it was Sunday instead of Saturday. I was surprised to see the mail truck because I was sure it was Sunday!

Katie – my surprise doll – is settling in nicely. As you know, I purchased another doll from Ukraine. She’ll take a while to get here. But when she arrives, I’ll have ten  Blythes, which is two more than I’d planned on having. I think ten is enough. In fact, I know  it’s enough – I have no more room!

Today, I’m going to read, walk around the garden, and work on the puzzle. That’s it.

Oh, and finish my coffee.

Stay safe.

Happy Sunday.

glad to hear you’re planning to rest today because wow, you did a lot yesterday!

sorry don’s time at the farmers’ market yesterday didn’t go as he wanted and deserves. better luck next time!

the puzzle looks fun (also hard). hope the current one is the same.

agree about coneflowers … beautiful! glad they self-seed for you to have so many to enjoy.

working on a few projects here, too. by their nature and my schedule, it’s all going slower than i’d like … but i remind myself “patience is a virtue” and keep going. :)

we had a couple of cooler, rainy/overcast days last week and i saw some clouds like i’d never seen before … it was like looking at slow-moving waves while under water. i pulled over, called nearby family members so maybe they could also see them. took a bunch of photos and video of the clouds and just loved them. identified them in my book about clouds, also online. they were asperitas clouds and just incredible to see!
and apparently “rare”. look up asperitas cloud videos online, if you like … just very, very cool … especially for a weather/rain lover like me. :)

now our weather is getting hotter again so i better get out to walk when it will be cooler.

    happy, safe sunday to everyone!

Enjoy your quiet day. I plan on doing the same. On July 4th you post a picture of nine dolls. Yesterday you received Kate which would make ten. If you are waiting on another doll wouldn’t that make you have eleven? Is one of the dolls in the picture from the 4th not a Blyth?

The little one in the photo (Wren) is not a Blythe doll She’s a bjd doll designed by a woman in Japan. So there were 8 Blythe dolls in that photo plus little Wren and now I have new Blythe and that makes nine. Believe me, I look at them all the time!

      Stay safe, Olivia

I wonder if the farmer’s market has been slow because people are really watching their money now.
Inflation is very bad now and that is not a necessity

That might very well be! I don’t know. I do know that it takes a while for it to get busy. But I think they would have more people if they were at their old location. Inflation is bad, but I think the veggies at the market are about the same price as those in the grocery store – and they’re better.

      Stay safe, Linda.

I’m so darned confused by days of the week that if they gave me the senility test, I’d probably flunk, at least on that question. I headed north yesterday — and I thought it was Friday and would hit the farm market this morning. Nope! It didn’t help that the lake is very quiet (thankfully) so I thought it must be early enough on Friday that all the jet ski people hadn’t arrived! I have to leave Thursday and I”m afraid I’ll forget and miss my Friday morning doc appointment!

Well done on puzzle and productivity. I have a New Yorker puzzle waiting for me that I don’t particularly like (someone gave it to me during the pandemic) but I might give it a shot up here home-alone. I need to work around art camp and the visit of Rick’s brother because the best spot to do it is the guest room and you know those puzzles — they’re pretty big and take up a lot of real estate. Maybe I’ll save it for January!

I envy you your time at the lake. There’s nothing like a Michigan lake!

      Enjoy Jeanie.

Quiet days…or afternoons in my case, are always welcome around here. It’s been nice here…lower humidity until tomorrow…so I did some weed pulling this morning. Now I can relax.

Is Katie from Ukraine as well? She’s adorable…it must be the pigtails….charming! Enjoy your day of rest! ;)

Yes, our humidity is low today – it’s really beautiful out there!

Katie is from a customizer in England – the same customizer that made Sophie.

      Stay safe, Donnamae.

I get more done when my hubby isn’t home too! I try to have a quiet restful Sunday every week. I have two granddaughters, 10 and 13, here most days of the week. We love to have them around but I do have to clean more and they can be noisier than we are used to. I really need peaceful weekends to recover, lol! They are growing up so fast and I am trying to treasure this time with them.
Your coneflowers are beautiful. They are one of my favorite flowers.
    Happy Sunday!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
