A Foggy Day

September 16, 2018 at 9:04 am by Claudia

We woke up to a foggy morning. (We also woke up too early, but that’s another story.) I love fog. It’s a sure sign of autumn and we’ll see many foggy mornings in the coming weeks.

I pulled a lot of weeds yesterday and I mowed as well. But it was hot and humid, so I stopped without finishing the back forty. I was tired and my back hurt. There’s been so much rain that the grass is really long back there. I’ll finish it today because it’s supposed to rain tomorrow and the next day.

The living room this morning.

Mowing today, a stop at the grocery store and, I think, reading. Don will be gone most of the day so I’m going to treat myself to some quiet time here in the den. I feel the need to escape into a good book. I’m currently reading The Child Finder  By Rene Denfield, a beautifully written mystery about a woman who looks for missing children. It’s written from the both the point of view of the woman and that of the missing child. I’m really enjoying it. And of course, I’m reading Fear  by Bob Woodward.

Two questions. I used to show the book I’m currently reading on the sidebar. I took it off when I went through my long, dry stretch of being unmotivated to read. Would you enjoy seeing that again?

And the other question: What are you currently reading? (One of my favorite questions to ask here on the blog.)

Happy Sunday.

Waiting for “Fear” ~ should arrive tomorrow. Finishing up “The Big House” and quiet enjoying it. Waiting for my Brit Edition of “Country Living” to hit the store so I can pick that up this week. I have a feeling I’ll lose the “who gets to read Fear first” so my magazine will keep me occupied while my dh reads the book.

Hope your back feels better soon and you can get the grass done before the rain hits. Snow and rain today, so we’re off to the Dollhouse Show and the Antique Mall. Good use of our time on a cold and wet Sunday!

I am currently reading The Secret Garden…almost finished. My 9 year old granddaughter wanted to share it with me since I said I had never read it. She is an avid reader….4th grade and reads at a 6th grade level.
I have Fear sitting on my bedside table, and can’t wait to get started on it. If only it was fiction!

Non-fiction for me too. I’m about halfway through “Democracy in Chains: The Deep History of the Radical Right’s Stealth Plan for America.” Author Nancy MacClean is a professor at Duke University. I saw her on Bill Maher’s show and decided I needed to read this. I say, Hillary was right, it’s been a vast right wing conspiracy and has been since the 1950s.

Like another of your readers, I am watching for the September British Country Living magazine. It always gives hours of pleasure looking at gardens, homes, and treasures.

I’d love it if your book being read was on the side bar. I used to follow your book blog and chose many of the books I was reading from that. I miss it. I’m currently reading Clock Dance by Anne Tyler and just finished Murder is Forever by James Patterson. I am a voracious reader, but I can’t always remember the last few books I’ve read. Not only that, when I go to the library, I often inadvertently find books to bring home that I’ve already read. You know, you get forgetful when you’re “twenty-six”.

I mostly read fiction. The last book was Upstaged by Murder, featuring Scottish barrister Rex Graves, by CS Challinor. The book before was The Recipe Box by Viola Shipman. It was light reading but I loved it because it featured generations of strong women and the bond of family. The book waiting for me is Magpie Murders by Andrew Horowitz.

Bagheera is home with us and spent a relaxed night. The vet techs were concerned because he looked so scared all the time and would freeze in his enclosure, not eating, not drinking, not using litter box. So he’s home, eating, drinking and using litter box last night. Fingers crossed he continues to do so and things can get back to what passes as normal over here.

I would love to see the book you are currently reading back in place! I just finished The Tuscan Child by Rhys Bowen. I am reading How to Walk Away by Catherine Center, and I am (very) ready to begin The Extraordinary Life of Sam Hell by Robert Dugoni and When the Lights Go Out by Mary Kubica. So many books to read. I have 7 checked out from the library right now!!

We are very warm and humid here, also. I have been saddened by how early the sun sets now. I think I heard this morning that we lose another 6 or 7 minutes this week. I still wonder where the summer went. I think being indoors for much of it due to the weather makes me feel like we missed it! I hope you have a nice Sunday after the mowing is completed. Enjoy your day.

Your fog is calming. It’s quiet here. We have sunshine…so it’s easier to see the leaves of my birch fall… a little too early. There will be a Packer game to watch…u rah rah. But, it’ll be a quiet day here, overall. Flowers to water…those few that survived being waterlogged. I have mulch to spread….but it’s too humid today. That task will be for later in the week after it cools down.

I always enjoy seeing what you are currently reading….so yes. I just finished the first Alex Cross novel….really enjoyed it. Now, I have plans to continue on with that series. But…have yet to figure out what’s next. I need a diversion. A book to escape into for a few hours….still looking at my stash. Any idea when or if there’s a new Louise Penny coming?

    Happy Mowing! ;)

Yes, please put your current read back in the sidebar. I love finding out what others are reading [especially if they’re recommending it]. Right now I’m reading Katy Tur’s “Unbelievable” which I HIGHLY recommend. Katy writes just like she talks/reports – something I really like. I believe that, in general, people should write the way they talk. Speak with one voice, as it were. It always sound more authentic, genuine. And when they do it clearly and concisely, that’s even better. Second last book I’m also recommending – “Sisters First” by Jenna & Barbara Bush. I have a whole new take on George W because of this book, though I must confess Chunky also contributed mightily to this attitude adjustment. But who knew Jenna & Barbara were so nice, so normal & so fun? I really never paid any attention to them when their Dad was in the WH, but have enjoyed Jenna on the “Today Show” [which I now watch again because Matt Lauer is gone]. She’s a scream – really funny. Many of the promotions the girls did for the book are videos on YouTube too. Worth well watching for the laughs alone. I think the book came out last Fall but I just found out about it recently. It’s a quick & easy read. Like MASH or a Neil Simon play – guaranteed to make you both laugh & cry. Have a great Sunday! Peace.

Also The sewing Machine by Natalie Fergie but somehow it got buried, literally, under some books and magazines. It takes place near the Clyde river near Glasgow. We traveled there this past March and I can literally see in my mind eye the story.

I would love to see the books you’re reading/read listed again…I just looked up The Child Finder and it sounds very good!…I just finished Dolores Claiborne by Stephen King…one of his that I never got around to reading…I am about to start The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead…there is a big old house about 15 minutes from my house that was part of the underground railroad!

I need to read that book as well. I’ve heard nothing but excellent reviews!

I enjoyed seeing what you were reading on your sidebar. I am currently reading To Die But Once by Jacqueline Winspear. If you haven’t heard this series of books I highly recommend them. You do need to read them in order. Have a good week!

Is this the series focused on someone named Maisie? Am I recalling that correctly? I started the very first one years ago but couldn’t get into it. It just might have been the wrong time. I’ll look into them again.

I LOVE foggy days! we have very few of them so they’re always so special to me.
I’m reading Fear on my Kindle. man. that Woodward is so fantastic! I feel safer just having him in the world. my book case is full but til I get new glasses I like the kindle. I can make the print larger. and it’s so handy. (never thought I’d say that!)
I like M.C. Beaton’s Hamish Macbeth mystery series set in the highlands of Scotland. she also does the Agatha Raisin series and usually has a new one or the other of those two popular series out in September. and I always try to read Jane Austen in the Fall. I don’t know why. it’s sort of a tradition I guess! and I love the journals of Gladys Taber through the year.
they’re old of course but so wonderful. they’re set in New England and upstate NY. my favorites. I grow nostalgic in the Autumn.

He is brilliant. I agree, thank goodness we have him!

The Gladys Taber books are lovely, though I’ve only read one or two. I’ll have to get more.

Just f I shed Underground Rairoad…amazing book!!!Colson Whitehead-difficult to understand cruelty of mankind!! Read one of Pattrson books but all seem to be alike now! Reviewed a new Maccomber book for Amazon-cozy stories! I read five to six books per week and will read the Woodward-stores sold out and didn’t see it at the library!

Amazon had completely sold out before it was even published! I know that they’re doing more print runs. Hang in there!

I’m currently reading Freshwater by Akwaeke Emezi, it’s a debut novel, beautifully written and I’m nearing the end. I’ve recently started reading the Louise Penny series and finished The Cruelest Month (#3) a couple of weeks ago…I love these characters and am glad that I have lots of books to look forward to!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
