A Foggy Saturday Morning

September 16, 2017 at 9:20 am by Claudia

Good morning!

It’s another deliciously foggy morning. I love the mystery of fog, the soft edges. I guess it’s not at all surprising that I love mysteries, is it?

Taken just a couple of minutes ago: the living room in the early morning light. I love the different wood finishes, the textures, the color of that blue table and chartreuse piece of Russel Wright pottery, the Roseville and the Guy Wolff pottery, and a splash of green in the shefflera. Oh, and the dried hydrangea in the corner.

Shadows and light.

I finished totaling and sorting through all our receipts, typed up the deductions, and sent them off to our accountant in Los Angeles. Sigh of relief.

Today I will study the script for Shadowlands. I’m doing some dialect coaching on a production in New York and that starts (for me) on Monday. As soon as this post is finished, I plan to make my second cup of coffee and sit on the porch. I must take advantage of it while I can!

Don smelled gas in his apartment yesterday and sure enough, there is a leak. So they turned off the gas. It will take a couple of days to fix – luckily he’s coming home for a day. The furniture was temporarily rented by the management company and, except for the bed, it’s ridiculously uncomfortable. The sofa is the kind you might find in a dorm room – in fact, only someone 18 or younger could lounge on it without his/her back going out. Don had a discussion with management and they agreed to find replacements. Yesterday, they brought a different chair which is definitely more comfortable (update: Nope. It’s not, per Don), but for some reason, they attempted to replace the sofa with a sofa bed (???) and it was so awkward and big that they couldn’t get it up the stairs. Why a sofa bed when he has a bed already, I don’t know. There’s been a lot of traffic in and out of his apartment this week – I know he’s looking forward to some peace and quiet.

Thought for the day – As a baked potato lover – truly, it’s one of my favorite foods – I’m going to say it: A potato baked in Stella’s oven puts all others to shame. It’s changed my potato-eating-life.

I’ve reached nirvana.

Happy Saturday.

    Your kitchen is charming!
It is foggy here this morning too. And I am sitting on my porch with the laptop and my coffee. Our lawn is quickly disappearing under the first fallen autumn leaves.

I just stood in the doorway and watched tons of leaves fall to the ground, Carolyn Marie. Fall seems early this year!

He’s only there for 3 more weeks, so it seems silly to move at this point!

I love your kitchen! Stella looks right at home there. I also like that you still use a “dish drainer” like I do. Most people don’t use them anymore. But I don’t know what I would do without mine! Enjoy your day!

We don’t use our dishwasher (it’s never worked). Even when we do get a new dishwasher, I have a feeling I’ll still use the dish drainer Cindy!

After staying with relatives who had a generator for the 3 days our home was without power we have fallen in love with our little home again. We finally got all the limbs cleaned up and are able to relax. It will take months for our little town to look normal again as the 100 mph plus winds downed many huge trees or limbs. It had been 13 years since we had 3 hurricanes hit us in 6 weeks. I can truly understand how you long for home when you are away working. I hope you have an enjoyable weekend my friend. Here in Central Florida we are grateful for this wonderful gift we call home.

Glad the gas in Don’s apartment will be taken care of and I hope there will be comfortable furniture by the time he returns. Since hell be there a while, comfort is so important. I think I know the answer to this, but does Don try to make his apartments homey?? Enjoy the fog. I’m in need of some now, as it’s getting too warm for me. Yum, baked potato!

Not really. He usually takes a few framed photos with him, but that’s about it. I much more of a nester when I’m away from home. But when he’s in a studio apartment next year for a long period of time, I plan to make that apartment homey for him.

Claudia, Your poor Don…I really hate to try to sleep in a bed that is not firm. You are so right , even a saggy chair or sofa can throw one’s back out. Hope Don can get home soon . :) Loved your pictures. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

His bed is fine and it’s really firm. It’s just the rest of the furniture. Don’s coming home tonight for his day off on Sunday.

I too, love a foggy morning—well, fog any time of the day or night. But it makes my heart ache from homesickness for San Francisco. Usually I can manage it, but fog does it for me every time.

I’m glad Don smelled that gas leak! Scary! Hope he gets his furniture sorted out. Will he be in this apartment for long?

What is it about fog? So mysterious, it could be perceived as frightening…yet calming, in a remarkable way. I love the picture of your kitchen…warm and cozy, perfectly suited for Stella.

It sounds like Don needs a new apartment! Enjoy your porch coffee! ;)

Wasn’t there a song “Foggy Day in London Town”…. I sort of remember that.

It is a hot and humid day here. So unlike the temps from just a few days ago. But the sun is shining, and that is always a good thing. Our grass is getting crunchy, so we could use some rain.

Surely hope they can get the gas leak fixed by Monday! Also happy that Don can get home, even if it is just for a day or so. Then in 3 weeks he goes on the road…. where do they start on their tour? I know Houston and NOLA and Chicago were among the cities. Exciting times.

Enjoy those baked potatoes. One of my most fav foods as well. I recently made one and put some roasted broccoli over it, so good! I have yet to find a vegetable that doesn’t taste better and sweeter when it is roasted. I have a bunch of tomatoes I am going to do today or tomorrow. Yummm! Bet Stella would roast some fine veggies!!Take care, kiddo and have a happy Saturday.

Yes. Written by George and Ira Gershwin, introduced by Fred Astaire.

We did roast some veggies, but the smoke alarm went off! It’s extra sensitive. We’ll figure out a way around that for the next time we roast.

Yes, New Orleans first. They will tech the show there and then they will preview and run from October 20 -28.

I love foggy mornings too. Especially very early ones, when it’s very quiet. Mysterious. A little foreboding. Sometimes even a wee bit sinister because you really have no idea what might suddenly appear. Never fails to make me think of “The Hound of the Baskervilles.” Always glad when it finally “burns” away though – don’t think I’d ever like a full day of fog. PS – I still use a dish drainer too. No dishwasher in my new place & I really can’t say I miss it. Didn’t grow up with one so I rarely used it once I did have one [unless I cooked & had a full load accumulate within just a couple of days]. For the most part, I always find myself washing up whatever right after meals. And during warm weather months, that’s very little since I almost never eat hot food [unless I go out]. Most Summer dish duty is once a day after supper & involves just a couple of plates, maybe a bowl, my jumbo china coffee mug, a bit of flatware & my French press [glass]. Whoa – the BORING alert just went off here. Hey, have a lovely September Saturday at home. Peace.

Not at all boring! We don’t mind doing the dishes, although I would love the convenience of a dishwasher for those evenings I can’t tear myself away from a TCM movie in order to wash the dishes!

Hi Claudia, Sounds like you are having an ideal Saturday. Your kitchen looks fabulous.
A baked potato is one of my favorite foods. I bet Stella could bake a delicious sweet potato also
I’m a mystery fan as well. Do you ever read anything by Linda Fairstein? All her mysteries that I’ve read so far are set in New York City.
Hope you have a great day.

It’s been foggy every morning here, too. I got some awesome shots the other day. But then it clears out and it’s sunny. In fact, it’s been very hot and dry here. We desperately need rain. Love that shot of your kitchen – looks so pretty and “homey”. If I had a stove like Stella, I think I’d be baking every day. :-)

I’d be baking today but it’s in the mid-eighties and humid! Don’t want to turn the oven on. Don is coming home tonight and he has (more than once) expressed a wish for cookies baked in Stella’s oven. So I might get around to it tomorrow. xo

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
