The catalpa is blooming – not as much as last year, which seems to be a recurring theme this summer – but it’s lovely. I’m hoping we don’t get any more rain for a few days, because the blooms are fragile and are knocked off the tree by the rain.
It smells heavenly.
I worked on the Beacon Hill for about 3 hours in the morning yesterday.

It’s a little blurry, but I’m about halfway through laying the floor.

With the cupboards. I’m using a pecan stain on the floor. Today, I’ll finish it.
You are so sweet to suggest ways in which I can get past the heat in order to get more time with the Beacon Hill. But, I’m okay with that, really. First of all, for me it’s always about the process. I love the process and I purposely take my time on any project I’m working on. This is therapy for me and I’m grateful for it.
And, after a lifetime of working in the theater at night and teaching during the day, routinely working until 11 pm every evening except Monday, getting to bed late, as well as working away from home for long stretches of time, we now find ourselves to be early morning people. We wake up early and we get our best creative work done in the morning hours. So being limited to the morning before it gets too hot is fine with me!
It’s all good.
We’ll be watching the Knicks tonight. And celebrating the removal of a name that should have never been displayed on the Kennedy Center. I’ve performed there. I know what it feels like to be in that space. It’s a sacred place.
Finished floor pictures on Monday.
Stay safe.
Happy Saturday.

What a lovely bloom!
I like that sweet green bowl on the kitchen counter!
Have a nice weekend!
Thank you, Ellen!

the catalpa flowers are beautiful! we have a lot of wildflowers along the trail (and across the trail from our backyard, though less there because of a rather steep ravine to the usually-shallow creek) … plenty of clover, some yellow coneflowers, lots (too much) of huge and very invasive prairie/burr/sour dock plants, others whose names i don’t know and should look up …
the kitchen floor looks great. glad you enjoy the slow-ish process of working on something like the beacon hill. i haven’t always been one to enjoy the journey of things (projects, travels) … i just wanted to have the thing done, to be there … probably because i’ve always been a very busy person. over time, though, and especially since retiring, i’ve grown to enjoy the process more and more. thanking God for that.
headed back to chicago tomorrow to hear todd rundgren. show described as being one of “fan favorites”. hope that means he plays all those sweet old radio hits. and i’d love to hear him perform live “just one victory” and “i love my life”. will be tired on monday … show starts at 5:00 pm for being sunday, and we’ll get back about 1:00 am. i’m volunteering at my church from 9 am to noon on mondays. worth it!
happy, safe weekend to all!

Have fun in Chicago, Kathy!

Good Morning Claudia! That pecan stain looks wonderful with the butter yellow and the cheerful reds. Lighter and warmer color suits the kitchen to a T! I am so glad the supplies for the floor are easy to get and you are enjoying the process. That’s really what it is supposed to be about! We didn’t get any rain yesterday… the front came through in the middle of the night, but it was “moisture starved” which happens here a lot. We are dry and really need rain, hopefully we will get some tomorrow night. The cooler dryer air does feel good anyway but it is supposed to get too hot again tomorrow. I look forward to seeing the floor finished on Monday and am enjoying thinking about you enjoying making it! :)
We got just a quick sprinkle, not nearly enough. The culvert has dried up and no Phileas!
Thanks so much, Betsy.

Seems to me you have figured out the best way for you to work on the Beacon Hill. You know…whatever works.
I had to laugh at that tarp that was placed in front of the Kennedy Center to block the name removal from live streaming. Celebrations here, too.
Don’t remember smelling a catalpa bloom….sure looks pretty though. Enjoy your weekend! ;)
Oh, the scent is incredible, Donnamae!

I love the flooring with the cupboards. A great choice. (So is the bowl!)
I am frustrated I can’t watch the Knicks tonight but we’ll be at the Regional Emmy Awards dinner and presentations. It will be great but I wish it was a different day. Still, I’d rather they win tonight without me than go to a game 7!
It was fun watching the removal — or what you could see!
I was just saying that to Don. He was saying it would be great if they won at home, but I said, no! Let’s take the series, tonight!
Thanks, Jeanie.
