A Little Miniature Christmas, Part 1

December 13, 2023 at 9:40 am by Claudia

Two sunny days in a row. Huzzah!

Yesterday was about cleaning, altering the newest batch of Christmas ornament sweaters so they can fit on a Blythe, altering little ornament parkas, and spilling my glass of water (the second time in about 4 days.)

But the sweaters are ready for the day I take the group photo. That day is to be determined. Removing current ensembles, keeping them in a separate pile for each girl, then adding sweaters and tights, and then attempting to pose all of them on the sofa. Then redressing each girl. Yikes.

A brief holiday visit to Hummingbird Cottage:

A small white tree on the hearth.

The tree.

The den.

Those of you who were upset at the prospect of me selling Hummingbird Cottage can relax for the time being. When told about my plans, Don was upset. He said he would miss seeing it in the den and no, please don’t sell it. So it has a reprieve for the time being.

Everything looks very Christmasy here at the cottage. I have a limit as to what I will display because, my heavens, we don’t need a whole lot more clutter here. I’ll take some photos today of the little vignettes here and there.

Today I’m going to start a puzzle. I haven’t worked on one in a few weeks.

Kathy, please check your email. I sent you a message.

Stay safe.

Happy Wednesday.

hummingbird cottage is move-in ready and beautiful! great work, claudia.

am sure your home looks great for the holidays. i’ve seen no “clutter” in photos you’ve shared!

need to finish Christmas decorating here, but the mood for dusting, packing and unpacking comes and goes. thankfully it will come back (an easy amount of pretty snow might help), but right now it’s gone. :/

checked! sent you a couple emails a few minutes ago.

like everyone else, i’ve had some extra-long “to do” lists lately. thankfully today’s list is a bit shorter. i want to read(!) and knit.

hope you, don and everyone else are having good, easy days. stay safe.

Kathy I wanted to thank you so much for your kind words about losing my Mom. I’m doing better (except I got Covid) and just plan to get through the rest of year as best I can. Thank goodness for my family and friends. Again thank you so much.

        oh, linda … you’re welcome.

but covid now, too?!? i am sorry you have to deal with that as well as your mother’s passing. i hope you physically feel better soon and know that there are people (myself included) who keep you, your mother and the rest of your family in prayers as you navigate changes and the tasks they bring. please be good to yourself (as i know you were to your mother) … ask for help, take breaks, enjoy your favorite things, ask for help from other family members and friends …

sending hugs (if okay) and a virtual casserole,
        kathy

I’m fairly spare in my decorating, Kathy.

I don’t think we’ll be getting any snow this Christmas, Kathy. Sigh!

      Stay safe.

i get that! as an adult, i’ve never done much holiday-specific decorating, either, but i try and like to do some for Christmas. i have an old wire tree (a gift from my sister) that is up year-round with angel Christmas ornaments given to me by my parents. i’d like another one, or maybe a table-top tinsel tree, to hold other ornaments, like the fabric pinecones made by my sister-in-law. hard to find. have a few more things out now, but that will probably be it for this year. took the ceramic light-up tree made by my maternal grandmother over to my parents’ townhome. :)

we keep missing out on the precipitation here and are a foot below average in rainfallso it will likely be a brown Christmas here, too. :l

hope you are having a nice night.

I’d love one of those vintage feather trees. I would leave it up all year long.

hope you and don have a good day every day.

I don’t invest in too many decorations – too expensive for just once a year. I made the tree.

      Stay safe, Elaine.

I do love Hummingbird Cottage and am glad you’re keeping it. The pottery on the fireplace mantle are just precious.

Good luck corralling your girls for their portrait.

    Take care.

The Cottage looks amazing, it’s difficult to believe that everything is in miniature. I always try to have a jigsaw on the go, most of them bought from charity shops but I have to like the illustration!

    Happy Wednesday

I do, too. If you’re going to spend a lot of time on the puzzle, the illustration is everything!

      Stay safe, Dee Dee.

Hummingbird cottage looks lovely. If memory serves, and it doesn’t always, isn’t this Caroline’s cottage, or am I mixing things up?

I was busy with holiday things today…cards, and cooking. But now my chores are done, and hopefully I can enjoy the next couple of weeks. I’ve been slowly sorting through my Christmas decor…setting aside those things that are no longer used. Now, I tend to use mostly candles, greens and wreaths. And a few of my Old World Santa’s.

I can’t imagine dressing and undressing, staging and photographing all your Blythe’s. That must have taken you hours. Looking forward to seeing the girls all dressed up in their Christmas outfits!

    Enjoy your evening! ;)

      Yes, it’s Caroline’s.

I haven’t staged the girls for a photo yet. It has to be a sunny day and Don has to be out of the living room!

      Stay safe, Donnamae.

I would not want to sell that either! It is so cute and Christmas! I have a sign in all my Christmas deco “You can never over decorate”. That is very appropriate for our house. Can’t wait to see your vignettes! We are going up to cold Prescott tomorrow. It is called the Christmas city. Can’t wait. Take care!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
