A Recital

February 16, 2022 at 9:43 am by Claudia

Today, the warm up begins. I could hear a bird singing this morning. I know it’s way too early, but I have spring fever. So does Don. And so begins the next month or so, when I think everything I see and hear means spring is coming and then we get snow. Or ice.

Madeleine is preparing for her recital. (She’s a soprano.) Imogen is directing the whole thing. No information yet as to when it will take place, but we’re all looking forward to it.

More views of the living room in the English Cottage:

When decorating each of my dollhouses, I’ve been inspired by a special piece of furniture. With this cottage, it was the sofa, which I purchased during the early demolition stage. And the mustard colored cupboard, which I already had.

In Hummingbird Cottage, I was also inspired by the sofa.

And with Don’s studio, it was also the sofa.

I guess the sofa is key, just as in a real life house.

I made a lot of progress with the puzzle yesterday. I’ll take a picture of it today.

It’s supposed to reach 57 degrees tomorrow, so we’re going to take a drive in the afternoon. Maybe we’ll stop by an antique shop or a bookstore. We just need to give ourselves a mini-adventure so we don’t go crazy. A bit of fresh air and a different perspective – always important.

Also: Johnny Weir (commentator on Figure Skating) in his outfit yesterday, and Don, as Malvolio in Twelfth Night:

Stay safe.

Happy Wednesday.

oh my goodness, when I saw that hutch, I thought it was in your actual livingroom..LOL. I was admiring it as I am looking for a piece of furniture similar to this for my actual home…LOL. This is AMAZING! The sofa is also gorgeous. YUP! It’s going to be 50 here tomorrow in Queensbury NY, but I think it might rain, but that’s ok! It will be warmer!!!!! Love your blog as always! Thank you for sharing your lovely doll houses, gardens and life with us!

I also love the hutch…it reminds me of actual pieces like that I’ve seen in upstate NY and then I continued reading and saw that you ARE in upstate NY. Lol! I guess we all have similar tastes :)

That’s made me laugh, they could have been separated at birth!

I could do with some warmer weather and a cease to the ever present wind and rain. My neighbour’s swathes of snowdrops have just bloomed and are one of my favourite flowers. I found out recently that they were originally brought to England by soldiers returning from Crimea in The Ukraine back in the 1850s. Praying that history doesn’t repeat itself.

Your English Cottage is looking great as are the Girls.

    Happy Wednesday

Yes, that situation is very worrying.

      Thanks so much, Dee Dee.

Oh, I love that sofa and wish it was in my living room! (Although it might not be as comfy as it is gorgeous!). I love this room — that bookcase makes me smile big and that plant is excellent!

Cracking up at the photo comparison between Don and Johnny! They both rock the fuchsia!

Have a fun afternoon out. We were 47 when I got home from the grocery store and errands (buying ice melt and puppy pads for the cat) and picking up my free N95 masks at the drug store. We’re due for freezing rain and ice followed by anywhere from 1-6 inches of snow (let’s give ourselves a little wiggle room here!). It felt good to be out!

      Yes, it’s not a sink-down-into-it sofa.

We’re getting rain today and a wind advisory tonight. Oh boy.

      Stay safe, Jeanie.

Oh what fun, a concert! Love the sofa and the cupboard. Enjoy your day, it’s pretty here and I need to get out of the house for a bit. Tomorrow my Mom has her pacemaker replaced so hoping all goes well. Long day ahead of us. Laughed out loud at the photo of Don & Johnny. Hugs!

Again, your dollhouse is beautiful. I love the hutch! Do you remember where you got it?
I think I need to purge some of the stuff in mine and make it more simple. A lot of the stuff is from when my daughter started it (she is now 37!) Has no interest anymore, so I took it over.
I have to laugh at you and Don looking forward to going out in the 50 degrees. It is in the 50’s today in Phoenix and we are cold! I have the gas fireplace on! Enjoy your day out! Take care!

I’ve mentioned the story of the hutch before but it’s been a while. I got it at the IGMA show a few years back. It was made by Barbara Vajnar of Bubba’s Mini County Cupboards. I own another of her creations. She retired last year. She’ll be missed, her work is extraordinary!

      Stay safe, Deb!

Oh, that picture!! They look like they are related!! He and Tara did a great job doing commentary last night during the skating.

The living room looks really good. We were in the upper 40’s here today. But once again getting colder in the days ahead. ugh.

Hope you have a nice ride tomorrow. Enjoy! Take care.

No ride today, I threw my back out again!

      Stay safe, Chris.

Your English Cottage is beautiful. What is the name of the movie where they shrink down to tiny (not honey I shrunk the kids, but the most recent) ….I could do that here!

I’m not sure, but wouldn’t it be fun to do that?

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
