Coneflowers are blooming on all sides of the house, even the edge of the secret garden, where a volunteer popped up! I love these flowers, most of which have self-seeded from the originals I planted many, many years ago. To me, they are the quintessential cottage garden flower. I’m very, very happy when they finally appear.
More smoke warnings for today, along with lots of thunderstorms. The air quality will be pretty bad. The title for this summer should be: The Summer We Had to Stay Indoors. Heat waves, unhealthy air quality, huge storms – it’s crazy.
I finished up the main entrance flooring yesterday. As I was heading for the finish line, I wanted to scream. Some pieces have to be cut down to fit and cutting them can be very frustrating. But, it’s done and I’m fairly happy with it.

The photo includes a cabinet I got online when Minatures (dot) com was closing down. It has a drawer that’s somewhere in this messy studio. It had a fleur de lis design which I am attempting to paint over. But I have no idea what color to paint it. Do I age it, or keep it new looking? And does it really fit in this part of the hallway? Should it be taller? I think I’ll go ahead and do something with it. If anything, it can function as a filler until I get just the right piece.

I like this view. Though I am now thinking I need more than this light stain on the Grandfather clock. What to do, what to do, what to do. Is it too tall? It’s sort of looking that way. Or do I need one of those Swedish clocks? I believe they’re called “Mora” clocks. All will eventually be revealed.
I’ll do something with the clock and the cabinet today, I think. A good indoors activity.
Stay safe.
Happy Saturday.

would a pale grey blue wash work on the clock? Probably popped into my head because of the Swedish idea, actually. We do have a very dark wood grandfather clock, made by my father in law….it’s in the guest room, the hall is too small.
This seems so real I’m comparing to my actual full size house!
Ceci
Like a pale blue/gray? Maybe…
I’m glad it seems that real to you, Ceci. That’s a compliment, for sure.
Stay safe.
given the smoke, heat and storm, i’m glad you can stay inside with fun things to do.
i think those floors are beautiful, fitting, and the big cabinet and clock look great where you put them. i like the two wallpapers you chose and love seeing them together. that is a great view!
it’s hot and sticky here. would like rain to break the humidity and knock down some of the smoky haze, but there’s nothing in the forecast but mid-90s and more humidity. we have some extra things to do this weekend, requiring dressier clothes, but i’d still take the rain.
hope you, don and everyone else keep cool and safe and have a lovely weekend.
kathy
It’s raining here right now, Kathy. Storms are expected throughout the day.
Hot and sticky is definitely not our kind of weather.
Stay safe.
It has been a bit of a strange summer hasn’t it? The smoke is due back later today…and I hope will be escorted out by storms on Monday. I just need cooler temps to start feeling like I even want to be outside again. And, I caught a summer cold….hate summer colds.
I like that cabinet in your hallway….if you think it’s too short, maybe place something on top to give the illusion of height? I’m sure you’ll find a solution. You’d have my vote for a Mora clock. Always wanted one…but no room.
Enjoy your weekend! ;)
I’m sorry about your cold, Donnamae.
I’ve thought about placing something on top. Not sure what, yet. Maybe baskets or a wooden box?
Stay safe.
Haven’t yet been hit by smoke from fires in California and I hope we don’t get those black-orange skies like we did during the day in Sep 2020. That was beyond weird. Fire season is upon us here. Though I live in an area that wouldn’t have seasonal fires, the air quality can certainly be affected.
We’re having a cool spell with 50’s in the morning and 60’s in the afternoon. We’re having we’re supposed to have the heat dome that you had a couple of weeks ago but so far, no sign of it on the Pacific coast.
Floors look good. I can’t imagine stuffing my hands into those small spaces. Do you use any tools like tweezers to help you or guide the planks into place?
I use tweezers for other things, but not for floors. I’m able to maneuver just fine!
Thanks so much, Wendy.
Stay safe.
