The air quality has improved but it’s still at the orange level – unhealthy for sensitive groups. Looks like tomorrow will be back to normal, including the rain that is coming. One or the other lately: dangerous air quality or lots of rain. Can I choose something in-between, please? Or don’t we get that option?
We got the air conditioner. I sighed as we spent money we really didn’t want to spend. This time I went with an LG because I didn’t want to go with the only other option, a GE that was the exact same model we just got rid of. That unit was a problem from the beginning. Since I’d done my research (including what store had it in stock) we drove there, walked in the store, put the box in our cart, went though self-checkout, and were out of there in less than 10 minutes. We came home, I put it together, and now it’s in the window working beautifully. After several days of coping with high temperatures and humidity, it felt so good to have the house cool again. And it’s quieter than the other one, as well.
An neater and cleaner desk. I have to sort through that pile of paperwork on the left.
Must. Get. Going. On. This. Project.
I moved Dove Cottage to the top of the music cabinet.
It’s hard to take pictures in here. Since it’s densely populated by all of my stuff, Don’s musical instruments, a chair, lots of surfaces, etc., I can only back up so many steps. And I have to torque my body to get into little corners.
Don has a gig today about a couple of hours north of here. We need money, he hasn’t worked in over 4 years, I’m not working, blah blah blah, so he wrangled some bookings this month. He hasn’t sung in public like this for a while. I hope it goes well. It involves a lot of driving – though Don likes that. I’ll have some time to myself but within a couple of hours, I’ll miss him. I’m currently wondering if I should try to mow a little today (with a mask on.) It may be my only opportunity for a few days as rain is on the way,
Stay safe.
Happy Saturday.

Good luck, Don! Hope this gig brings many more your way.
Enjoy the day, Claudia and Don.

Thanks, Cathy.

taking it easy here this morning. mentally rearranging stuff at home in advance of actually doing it and psyching myself up to do grocery/supply shopping ahead of the fourth of july (crowds).
happy saturday to everyone. stay safe!

Glad you’re taking it easy, Kathy.

Good for Don. I wish him the best. In addition to the income it will be good for him to be out of the house and with others. Hopefully he has a pension for the many years he has worked.
Claudia says
Thanks, Linda.

Your desk looks lovely. It looks like a creative person works there. Actually, your whole house looks like creative people live there, oh, two creative people do they live there.
I mowed my back lawn today, I am so happy when my lawn mower starts.
Take Care,

You have some lovely pieces in your studio. I also hope like others that this gig leads to further ventures for Don.
After nearly a month of decent weather in my part of England, I am back to wearing a cardigan. 1st July and cool enough for a cardigan inside!
Anyway, how are you enjoying Mrs Maisel on second viewing? I am into the third series where she is about to tour with Shy Baldwin. I absolutely love Susie’s character.
Happy Saturday
Claudia says
We are loving Maisel even more on the second viewing. We notice so many more details. Tonight we watch the last episode again. I know I can’t talki Don into watching it all over again quite this soon, but I would do it in a second!
Stay safe, Dee Dee.

Wow, as a fellow crafter I know how much work goes into all that organizing and reducing. But it feels so good when it’s all done and you stand looking at the results.
We have several LG appliances, some for years with no issues, so I think you’ll be happy with your new air conditioner. Hope Don enjoys his gig and it leads to more.
Take care,
Kay
Claudia says
So far, so good with the LG a/c. I like it a lot.
Thanks, Kay.
Stay safe.

Really sorry you’re having such problems with air quality! Very good that you got the new a/c unit. Sometimes we have to just bite the bullet on this stuff. We have to live. I feel for ya, though, Claudia; but you need the a/c and it’ll also help filter the bad air besides cooling you off.
For the first time in 35 years, my husband got a traffic ticket and, unbelievably, it’s $500; so, yeah, it’s these out-of-budget hits that just kill us; I need dental work at the moment but no way can I go in there for the additional work until I pay the $700 I owe them (and we have dental insurance[!!] but clearly it only helps a little). Plugging away at it, but it seems as soon as I can make a dent, there’s another expense. Boy-howdy do we miss my husband’s full-time income; but, welcome to retirement. And the expenses just keep on com’in, retired or not.
Meant to say that your day-lilies photo the other day made me think at first glance that they were hibiscus!
Also loved seeing your flock of putz sheep on display.
We’re finally climbing out of May Gray and June Gloom coastal overcast here in Southern Calif but it’s to be expected as we’re usually always hot by July 4 (and I dread it!). We were fogged in last night but the diff is, these days, that it now burns off faster in the earlier morning. Oh well, ’tis summer. And fireworks. I curse all illegal fireworks. They are making our dog SO nervous and upset. The fireworks start in at least two weeks before and two weeks after the July 4 holiday around here. The dog, after 18 months of rehab with us, was finally drug-free but we had to, two days ago, put him back on the anti-anxiety med which really upset his tummy. So, last night, we turned on loud music and ran the ‘blower’ mechanism on the a/c so that there was constant drone of that old unit (without the cooling; instead, just moving the air around), all as noise buffer for the dog, which helped, and we could avoid medicating him, but that was only last night; what’s it gonna be for him by Tues. There are no fireworks allowed in my town except for the July 4 city-sanctioned community celebration with a regular ‘show’ and qualified pyrotech professionals.
All I can think of right now is that I want autumn.
It’s frustrating because we have a lot of work to do outdoors with our decluttering-downsizing project but the warmer weather pushes me indoors by 9:30am now; so, unless I’m out there at daybreak (which will NEVER happen with me!), I can’t make the kind of progress I need to, at least in the amount of time my husband would prefer so that we can get out from under that darned offsite storage unit.
My husband is getting increasingly frustrated with our offsite storage facility (we got that $50/month rate hike as of July; we’re sick of their annual $50/month rental-rate increases) so, since he’ll be off work with his part-time job for two months (stuff going on with the employer and moving; yikes, we’ll miss that two months of even part-time income!), he has decided to make the investment of a shed-build for our backyard so that we can at least get HALF the boxes from the storage unit onto our own property for further sorting and only TEMPORARY storage.
Another head-banging case of having to spend money to save money, because the soonest we can unload that now-expensive offsite unit, we’ll save a good amount of money each month. We work more slowly on all this than we’d prefer, but it is what it is at this age and our state of health.
When my husband builds these sheds, it’s not cheap but of course because it’s just the way HE IS, they’re as solid as a Tiny House and a human could LIVE in them, as they’re so nice when he’s done (but at least it’ll keep him occupied because he has increasingly become the grumpy ‘ol retired guy who has ‘way too much time on his hands and it is NOT making him happy or focused or contented).
Okay, look, I’ll quit complaining, you breathe better, live better with more cooling; what a relief that you’ll have cooler temps indoors as the summer progresses for you, Claudia. Have a lovely Sunday; Don will probably be tired from his traveling and you from mowing (if you braved it out there). Rest up!
Claudia says
Same, same. I need dental work and Don got in a fender bender a few months ago. He’s contesting the ticket. I sure hope that works. I know our new policy will reflect that accident and I’m dreading the increase. ANY increase in anything right now is unbelievably stressful.
Stay safe and hang in there, Vicki.

Hate the smoke! If we aren’t getting it from California, we are getting it from Canada. And get this: if we don’t get it from California or Canada, we get it from Siberia!! Isn’t that a laugh?
Claudia says
It’s Climate Change related and apparently no government officials want to do anything about it – well, Biden does, but he has to contend with idiots in Congress.
Very scary!
Stay safe, Tana.

YOur desk looks great. I hope to see the top of mine by October (granted, I’m not around much till then!). I love seeing the houses there and your wonderful touches. So glad the aircon is in and you are more comfortable. Maybe while Don is singing you can work a bit on the Beacon Hill. The time will come.
I just started a jigsaw of London. Well, I started sorting the pieces and have determined that this puzzle will be a bitch. Some aren’t even sortable — intricate lines, tiny people. We shall see. I’m not fast like you and will probably work on it all summer! Send some of your puzzle juju my way!
Claudia says
I’m not as fast as I used to be. I think my puzzle mojo has disappeared!
Stay safe, Jeanie.
