And We’re Back to Reality

November 27, 2017 at 7:49 am by Claudia

A lovely day yesterday, starting with brunch at Doug and Rick’s place. Rick made french toast and I got to see what has happened with house decorating – it’s looking lovely inside. They’ve accomplished a lot outside, as well, a new driveway, new exterior paint, some trees taken down. A fire was lit in the fireplace – the perfect setting for food and lots of laughter. Doug’s daughter is simply lovely and I’m so glad I had the chance to talk with her.

Then – and don’t get too excited by my whirlwind of activity – I went to the grocery store.

Yep. That’s it.

And then I watched Gigi  on TCM. I love that movie.

Don contemplating Nighthawks.

Don said that he tested his voice in the shower yesterday and it was a bit better. The meds are kicking in and he’s feeling better. Today, he and his doctor will decide whether he needs a shot of steroids. Hopefully, not, but he’s got to be able to sing. At 1:00 central time, send positive energy his way.

In the meantime, we texted a lot and had one FaceTime where I asked ‘Yes and No’ questions.

I’m pondering whether to begin painting that last wall in the kitchen.

Pondering. Not doing anything. Just pondering.

Last night’s sunset was beautiful, but the sun went down at 4:15. Too early!

I just finished Michael Connelly’s newest (great, as always) and have now tucked into the new John Le Carré – A Legacy of Spies.

Today is about getting the mail from the post office, paying bills, and making calls about the Tax Scam. The latest realization: I would lose the tax deductions that are absolutely necessary for me to sustain my freelance work. There’s a long list of horrors in this bill – this is just one of them.

Resist.

Happy Monday.

more prayers said for don’s voice to heal in time to sing on the soundtrack (which would be sooo cool)!

glad you had a nice time with friends and a movie!

yeah, that tax thing … plus someone is now saying the awful tape he called “locker room talk” was altered? ugh!

hope you have a great day!

The tape is real and there are more where that came from – He is everything that is abhorrent to me.

Don’s going to get some steroids, but he’s feeling better. Today is a long day – (until 11) and then they record more tomorrow.

agree about the other guy!!! he acknowledged it before (though minimized it as “locker room talk”), but cannot be mature enough to do so now. some “leader”.

great news about don getting to sing on the soundtrack!

Yes! I told Don I had always had a dream of singing on a Broadway Cast Album and I’ve living vicariously through him.

Praying for Don’s voice. It is awful when your livelihood is dependent on something that you sometimes cannot control.
Sounds like you had a great ‘down’ day. We all need those sometimes. I was supposed to have one yesterday but that didn’t happen. Today and tomorrow are out….well…there’s still hope for Wednesday…maybe. lol
Have a great week, Claudia! xo Diana

Claudia – I just caught up on your trip to Chicago – I’ve been offline for over a week. Belated Birthday Wishes to you, and your photos and stories of Chicago are beautiful. Welcome home! Hoping that Don’s voice is OK for the recording today.

I went yesterday for a couple things and came out the door of the store and dropped my changed of two dollars in the red kettle. :) Blessings for a pretty day there. It will be 60 degrees here. Unreal. xoxo, Susie

Good for you! We were giving money to the homeless in Chicago. So many were on the street and it was cold. Thanks, Susie.

Enjoy your day, Claudia. I’m fending off cyber Monday offers in my email. All these deals from Black Friday through Cyber Monday look great, until I realized I don’t need anything! On Sunday, I shopped local for my holiday gifts. I love small independent stores with lovely items handpicked by the shopkeeper, so I put my money where my heart is. Also time to update my automatic monthly charitable contributions…thanks for your unintentional reminder. Hope the steroids work on Don, and that he doesn’t need them for long.

So many cyber Monday emails yesterday! Yikes. The steroids worked and he’ll be done with them today.

Oh, I hope all goes well with Don’s voice. Hopefully the steroids will help as well. Every minute/ hour he can rest his “instrument” will help. This weather doesn’t help, either. Although it is supposed to be 60* today. These days are diamonds!

Sometimes reality stinks. Although so many times I find bits & pieces of it sort of comforting. I hope you have a good Monday. We ALL need to call our representatives on this scam of a bill to give the Trump family a gift of a million bucks. He does actually make me physically ill.

He makes me physically ill as well. There are no words to adequately describe how much I despise him

I hope Don is much better. It’s almost 1 central time so sending prayers. My Mom is resting before a little car ride this afternoon. Getting a cold on vacation is never fun. We fly home tomorrow and we are so ready.

I have been gone all day so I missed the 1pm visit to his doctor.
but he is in my prayers…
so that he can perform in the recording. along with his regular performances.
and being ill! that fact and that he must be simply exhausted. how does he do it? !!
I also watched Gigi last night. how I love everything about that movie! everything!
and there are NO words for the despicable leadership of this country now.
somehow we must survive it all.

Sometimes, Tammy, I worry about whether we CAN survive it all. But then, I gird my loins and get back into the fight. xo

I’m just catching up after being away from blog reading for a couple of days. I do so hope Don is better by now.

About two dozen people in our small community protested a week ago, carefully making out signs that pointed out some of the particulars of the currently proposed tax plans. We’re a deeply red small town in a deeply red state. I wasn’t able to go, but the comments in our local paper included the usual “get a job,” as well as the exhortation by one to check out all those commenting positively on social media, a threat that sent many members of our group scrambling to make sure their settings were private. I’m so proud of those who were able to be there for the protest.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
