Around and About the House

July 13, 2011 at 12:04 am by Claudia

Around the house:

Scout, with her heart-shaped spot, happy happy on the porch.

For some reason, white impatiens have been hard for me to photograph in any detail. Aha! Got one.

The wrought iron thingy has moved outside for the summer. I like it out here on the porch.

Our hostas are bigger than ever this year because of all the rain. Especially the one on the right which was long established when we bought the house. I love hostas.

At the last minute, I decided to join up with Where Bloggers Create this Friday. I wasn’t going to, but then I realized that the space had changed a lot since last year. So I ran around the house, snapping photos.

Somehow I got this shot – sort of looks like a lightning bolt of inspiration, doesn’t it? Too bad I’m not in the chair to benefit from it!

Any ideas for a caption? If you do have one, please share it with us.

I have my doctor’s appointment this afternoon. We’ll talk gall bladders and possible surgery and I’ll have a lot of questions. I’m off to bed now with a new book to read. I’ve just finished two Lee Child mysteries. Wow. These books are real page turners. I have to look for more in the library.

Sorry to read you have not been well. I will also send you positive thoughts!

I also love hosta’s. A few years back I was in the NY botanical gardens with a friend, and I commented (with a bit of a frown on my face) on how much poison they must have used to have the hosta’s looking so good. My friend asked me what I meant and I told him that hosta’s are a favourite meal of slugs and snails. He then told me you don’t get many slugs and snails in the US (as a kid he used to treasure a snail if he found one). I looked at him in disbelief, but he said it was absolutely true.
My hosta’s are big (despite a very dry spring) but are full of holes. No deer here though.

Oh yes! The wrought iron thingie looks as though it belongs on your porch… and that bolt of light? I think it’s your personal angel just checking in on you. You know, like Earl on the show ‘Saving Grace’.

    Hi Claudia
Your flowers look great! It is hard to catch impatatiens when their not brown around the edges.
Hostas are one of my favorites. Probably because their so…durable!!
I enjoy a good Lee Childs book too. I was working at a lodge in the Yukon when I noticed one of our roomers reading one of his books and made the comment that I had read it too. The next day the couple checked out. But before driving away the fellow ran back with a copy of one of his Lee Child books to give me as a gift.So nice of him.
I do hope you get good news about your gallbladder and can be free of the pain once again!

Claudia, this may be too late, to wish you luck at the doctors. It is not to late for wishing you well with the results of the visit. Good Luck. I hope everything comes out fine.

Oh my goodness! Scout really does have a heart shaped spot! How sweet!
I hope the doctor visit goes well. My niece, who had surgery, two weeks ago, is already complaining about not being able to go back to work yet. She’s a bag girl at the grocery store. She’s bored. LOL
I love Lee Child. I can’t believe they haven’t made a Jack Reacher tv series yet!

Hi Claudia!.. Awwwwww, I don’t remember that heart shape on Scout, but my memory never has served me well. She’s absolutely beautiful though!! Love the photo!… I haven’t read anything by Lee Child yet, but I’ll keep an eye open for the name, next time I’m book shopping! My daughter is reading “The Help” right now, and LOVES it. She says I HAVE to read it when she’s done!… Good luck at the doc’s, and take care. Have a great day, keep cool, and whatever you’re doing, enjoy! ~tina

Claudia, I am addicted to Jack Reacher, uh, sorry, Lee Child! I’ve been going thru his Jack Reacher books for about a year now and they are good, exciting reads. My other Jack Reacher friend/fan informs me that Tom Cruise is in talks to play Jack on film – Nooooooooo! You must understand that sentiment because I’m sure like us, you have a mental image of him in your head. He’s not short! Sounds like you are feeling better and your garden looks lovely. Hope the gall bladder news will be positive and productive. Ann

I don’t think I’ve read any Lee Childs books. I’ll have to check into those.

Claudia everything looks so pretty around your cottage. I hope you are feeling better about things in general, and on the road to being well again.

I love the simplicity of white impatients and bought a flat full of them this year. They are so restful and pretty.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
