Around the House

March 26, 2012 at 11:25 am by Claudia

Yesterday I was in the mood to clean. I’ve long since learned that I have to be in one of those efficient, determined moods to do any deep cleaning. I tackled both bathrooms and the kitchen. If you are a longtime reader of this blog, you are more than aware of the fact that I hate cleaning the bathroom. I abhor, detest and dislike intensely cleaning the bathroom. I even wrote about it in this post.

I even washed the fake fruit in this bowl. Oh, I forgot; the thing to do is call it faux fruit. But really, it’s fake fruit.

Now it’s clean and spiffy, as are the countertops and the island. Side note: since I’m in the mood to use the word ‘detest’ let me add that I detest our tile countertops (the grout never looks clean) and I also detest our humongous black microwave. It takes up too much space. But since it came with the house and is still working, I can’t get rid of it. Oh, and I cleaned the inside of the microwave.

Do you see that piece of paper on the butcher block? Here’s what it says:

These are the kind of love notes my husband and I leave for each other. Mr. Riley has a debilitating disease which involves his spine and hind quarters. His poor muscles just don’t have the control they used to. So, if Don is working late, I leave him a note with a Riley update in hopes that if we cover our bases no ‘incident’ will happen during the night. We love our boy and aim to make his life as stress-free as possible.

Speaking of my husband, this pile of his washed and folded clothes has been in this chair for 3 days. Any bets as to when he will take it upstairs?

The other night, Don was waiting for Riley to, you guessed it, poop and sat down on the bench. He decided to play with his jumping jacks. The next morning I arose to find the guy in the center (soldier?palace guard?) decapitated. He has since been repaired. The monkey was also decapitated at one time, which is why his head is permanently cocked to one side.

Aren’t these flowers Easter-like? I found this mixed bouquet at Trader Joe’s and it reminded me of Easter eggs and Easter baskets and Spring.

Today it is very windy and tonight the temps are going to go down to the mid-twenties. A hard freeze. I’m worried about my lilac bush and all the other plants that have popped out of the ground in this early Spring.

Have a marvelous Monday!

If ya wanna get real technical about th’ fruit, it’s “waxed” fruit, sugar. I hear ya about th’ folder clothes also. Sigh……

I really thought it was real fruit.
I know that Shaklee has some great products.
Funny about the clothes. I have the tummy virus that my husband had last week-end. I told him I need some clothes washed…..it took two days before that got done. But it’s okay……isn’t it.
    Happy Monday to you.
Sun is shining but those lower temps on the way. Hoping I have the energy or strength to go outside and clip the daffodils.

Claudia, The pile of clean folded laundry, brings back memories of my children. I would wash, dry, fold , stack , into their own piles (4 daughters) If it was still there when I go home from my job (2nd shift)I would be mad…so the next day I would draw maps to their closets and dressers. haha. Then I came home one night, they had written a note saying “mommy dearest, we put our clothes away” Those brats!.. I love them to pieces. I know how you feel about cleaning the bathrooms…me too girl. Smiles, xo, Susie(She Junks)

Oh Claudia, can I relate to this post and the notes about poop. Poor Riley. My dogs don’t have any dibilitating issues (thankfully) but we’re always giving each other updates on the state of when they last did their business.

Your faux fruit looks real! And I can’t stand cleaning the bathroom. We both now do what we call power cleaning. We spli our chores in half. Our laundry sits in baskets for days but hubby always leaves his dirty socks on the floor.

I know what you mean about cleaning. Every so often I get in the “cleaning mood” and go with it and clean everything like mad until I am exhausted. Then I have to wait for the next mood. In the meanwhile, I try to keep things in order and wipe down things a lot.

Nellie’s poop habits are always a big topic of discussion around here. Did she, didn’t she, will she need to go again before bed… I’m thinking those little jumping jacks must start quaking when they see Don coming. Whose head will roll next? Linda

Get a Clorox Bleach Pen for the grout. You can just squeeze some in the grout line, no runs, let it sit to do it’s job, and wipe up. You can do a little at a time so the whole kitchen isn’t disrupted. Been there, done that.

I brought in my recently bought geraniums … just in case. Strange spring.
My hubby would walk past those clothes forever thinking that I probably had a reason for putting them there. Amazing!

Wow! If you hadn’t told us, I would never have known that wasn’t real fruit. I LOVE the bowl it’s in, so beautiful!! And your flowers are so pretty and springy.

Now, if Don is anything like my hubby, those clothes will only disappear as he takes them to wear them! lol

Love the ‘poop’ note! ha ha!

I love a clean bathroom, but despise cleaning it too. There must be a bathroom cleaning fairy somewhere.

Of course, through the entire post, all I can focus on is the bottle of Basic H, it’s my most favourite cleaner in all time…LOL.

Love that stuff, and to get it here is such a hoop, and expensive.

At least that pile of laundry is neat. My husband’s idea of putting his laundry away is piling it on top of his dresser. This morning I asked “How much more laundry do you think you can fit on there before it falls over?” His response “I don’t know, I am sure I will be adding a new collection to it tonight!” It’s about 3 ft high right now.

Around the House

April 13, 2009 at 6:31 pm by Claudia

I’ve been mulching, mulching and mulching some more. I’m doing a lot of things in the garden that I would normally do a few weeks from now. Since I’m leaving for San Diego on Wednesday, I don’t have that luxury. The beds have been cleaned out, the mulch is spread, the plants are emerging, the hose has been hooked up, the glider has pillows ~ tomorrow I will buy some hanging plants and plant some pots for the porch. I’m holding off until then because we have another cold night tonight. After that, the rest of the week looks warmer. Oh, I will miss working in my garden this spring. This is my favorite time of year, and I love nothing more than walking through the garden checking on my plants, watering, weeding ~ everything. I’m embarrassed to say it, but I get teary at the thought of being away from all this.

Thought I’d share something we did to make the porch safer for the dogs. The open arch leading onto the porch is lovely, but we knew it needed a gate or some way to close it off so that the dogs could spend time on the porch. Neither of us was up to building a gate or even knew how to. We bought a small section of picket fence from Lowe’s that was in the clearance section.

We tried propping it against the posts, but then I bought these and attached them to the posts.

Now we just slip the “gate” right into these and all is secure. Plus, the picket fence suits the look of our porch, don’t you think?

More later.

Clever idea to keep your dogs safe.
Thanks for giving me the info on the shop in Gardiner. Next time I’m in the area I’ll be sure to stop in.
Enjoy your trip, my husband loved San Diego. Mary

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
