Utterly Random on Wednesday

• I feel like I have to take a shower (several of them) after listening to the despicable rhetoric spewing from the mouths of those who consider themselves qualified for the job of President of the United States. We watched some of the Super Tuesday coverage last night – our first mistake – and by the end of the evening I wanted to scrub my every inch of my body and my mind. As someone on my Facebook feed said: a Silkwood  shower.

We literally had to breathe deeply several times before we could calm down enough to sleep. I have lots to say on this subject but I do my best to stay away from the political on this blog. But if you are curious as to how I feel on any given day, and that is  what this blog is about, then my current state of disbelief, shock, sadness and disgust says it all.

And P. T. Barnum was right. There is  a sucker born every minute. (Though there’s some question as to the correct attribution of that quote.)

I’ll stop there. I have a fantasy of writing a full-out post on this subject. Several. But chances are, I won’t, because this isn’t a political blog. (I actually did start one several years ago, but I didn’t keep it up.)

• He’s been framed.

You can see the reflection of my flannel pajamas in the glass. Roseville to the left. Light bulb (why?) behind the frame.

• My back is finally starting to feel better. I’m being very careful, but I have to get moving and get some things done before we leave for Florida. An oil change. Errands. Stuff around the house.

And I’m sick of sitting in my chair.

• That guy in the photo made me coffee this morning. It always tastes better when he makes it. It’s a fact. And if I make something for Don, he thinks it’s much tastier than his version of the same thing.

• I just stuck this photo in here because I like it. This is the other side of that same dresser which holds the framed photo of Don. Pansy watercolor in the vintage frame: found on a coaching job in Owensboro, Kentucky. Blue dress: worn by my mother when she was a little girl. Hand painted glass lamp: from my grandmother.

• It’s windy here today. We’ve had so  much wind lately. I find it unsettling. It makes me edgy.

• We’ve been on the receiving end of a couple of videos from Little Z, in which he tells us he can’t wait for our visit. And we spoke to him on the phone last night. He’s very funny, that little munchkin. Meredith is trying with all her might to toilet train him and he wanted to know if Don wore Big Boy Underpants. And if so, were they Mickey Mouse Big Boy Underpants?

That’s something I’d like to see.

We can’t wait to see him.

Collecting: A Wee Bit of Madness

This is what happens when you’re completely and utterly enchanted by something…say, Roseville Pottery…and you’re sad most of the time and your back hurts and you’re stuck in your chair and you need something to cheer you up. And you figure that this particular something, which is on eBay and is a new pattern for you, might be a neat addition to your collection. And then you are the only bidder, so, come on ! It’s a no-brainer.

This pattern is White Rose. The vase is 7 inches high.

It’s a wee bit of madness this infatuation I have with Roseville Pottery. And I fully recommend a little madness of this sort for everyone. It’s so much fun!

3-1 priceguide

Also in yesterday’s mail was the price guide for Roseville that I ordered through Amazon. It’s clearly self-published and simply lists prices by the numbers assigned to each style and pattern. For instance, this particular vase has “Roseville – U.S.A” and the numbers 983-7 in raised script on the bottom. 983 denotes a specific vase in the White Rose pattern and 7 indicates the height of the vase.

No photos. Just updated, and that’s the key, prices for every item in the Roseville Pottery line. The many reference books I already have are full of gorgeous and very helpful photos, but the prices are out of date. This particular little book is updated every year.

I couldn’t help but check out the pieces I’ve purchased and the amount I paid for them against the price range given in the pamphlet. I’m happy to say I’m doing extremely well! Always less than half the amount given, sometimes much  less than that.

Check out the font used on the cover of the pamphlet. I must admit it makes me chuckle.

We’re most likely heading to Florida sometime next week for a visit with my family. We need a break. We need sun and sand and the smell of the ocean. We especially need my sister and her family, including Little Z and Max, her dog.

It will be nice to have a little vacation. That’s an understatement.

Monday Thoughts

• It’s been three weeks today since we lost our girl.

We still can’t believe that this magical being is no longer here with us on Earth.

We cry most days. We are still, and always will be, in mourning. It’s been an incredibly hard time for us. We work hard to stay positive and to find laughter as often as possible. (Thank goodness for Frasier on Netflix.) I even made a funny face yesterday that made Don laugh.

And my back, though slowly getting better, is still quite painful and I’m babying it all day long. Muscle spasms aren’t fun.

• It’s also exactly four months since my father passed away. And it’s raining today. Appropriate. Too much loss.

• I only made it through about half of the Oscars. I was tired and I was pretty sure the predicted Best Actor and Actress winners would be who they ultimately were. I haven’t seen any of the films yet. Lady Gaga’s performance was incredibly moving. I’m not sure why that song didn’t win…but I’ve given up trying to predict these things.

• I’ve been reacquainting myself with Hummingbird Cottage. I see it from my blogging chair, but the inside is usually facing toward the wall. It’s awfully nice and Caroline is a lucky woman. I took the opportunity to take some pictures when she was ‘away’ from the house.

Flowers are blooming in the world of Hummingbird Cottage. If only they were blooming here at Mockingbird Hill Cottage!

• Speaking of miniatures, you must visit Marian Russek’s blog and also watch her YouTube Video on her completed Shipping Container House. She builds and designs her houses and her work is incredible. While you’re at the blog, take a look at her other creations. They are so lifelike, so detailed, you’ll forget they are miniatures.
