Collecting: New Pieces of Miniature Pottery

February 3, 2013 at 9:52 am by Claudia

Good morning! It’s Sunday morning and there is a bit of snow on the ground that will need to be shoveled. Thankfully, just a little – less than one inch – though we might have a bit more tonight. It’s a gray day, at least so far. I have several projects in the works and the challenge of the day will be deciding just where I should concentrate my energies.

I don’t care about the Super Bowl.

There, I’ve said it. Do not care. I’m not even sure who’s playing. And, frankly, I think football needs to be re-assessed. Our increasing knowledge of chronic head injuries and the dire toll they can take on players should be a wake up call. Junior Seau was the quarterback when I was living in San Diego. This man who was normally happy and full of good cheer took his life recently. And the examination of his brain confirmed that he suffered from Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE), a degenerative brain disease that is linked to chronic head injuries. When the NIH autopsied the brains of 34 former players, they discovered that 33 of them suffered from CTE.

Food for thought.

On to something cheerier.

My friend Linda who blogs at A La Carte, knows that I have started a collection of miniature pottery. She sent me a lovely present that arrived in yesterday’s mail:

minpottery1

Oh. My. Goodness. Three beautiful pieces of pottery! Aren’t they lovely? And a heart!

Oh Joy! Oh Rapture! (as Gilbert and Sullivan would say.)

I am entranced.

minipottery2

I’ve added them to my shadow box shelf. I love the pop of color that the yellow and peach pieces bring to my display.

How can I not smile when I sit here in my blogging chair, pause in my typing, look up and see this?

minipottery3

I can’t. I’m smiling.

Thank you, Linda, from the bottom of my heart.

In other news, the earrings are flying out the door! I have a lot of wrapping and packaging to do in the next 2 days. Thank you so much! If you are interested in a pair, I would suggest you think about buying a pair sooner rather than later. Some colors are almost gone. Meredith is thrilled, by the way.

Happy Sunday.

A Favorite Thing #22

February 1, 2013 at 8:00 pm by Claudia

afavoritething

It’s Friday evening and that means that A Favorite Thing begins! I hope everyone has had a good week. In my neck of the woods, it has been frigidly cold, then in the fifties, and now we’re back in the twenties. No wonder my head is spinning!

Some highlights from last week:

Baby Sheep

Be still my heart. If you know me at all from this blog, you know I love sheep and lambs. Two Birdies and a B. shared this photo with us in her post. They were born on Patrice’s Farm – Patrice blogs at Everyday Ruralty.

Is there anything more adorable?

Mary Walker Designs shared one of her paintings with us. She was inspired by a trip down the road with her two girls and the neighbor’s Cairn Terrier trailing behind. Isn’t she talented?

And Cottage Sweet Cottage shared her recipe for a homemade all purpose cleanser. Thank you, Lil!

My favorite thing this week? Photography. Actually, I’ve loved photography for quite a long while but since I started this blog almost 5 years ago (in just a few weeks!) I’ve developed a passion for it. I received a new camera as my Christmas present, which has given me a whole new set of tools and I am loving every minute of it. Just today, I wanted to list the earrings my sister made in our Etsy shop and I came up with the idea you see below. I used white boards and the teacup and a special lens and came up with these:

I’m not always successful. But when I am, I get so excited! Blogging and photography have opened up a whole new world for me.

Okay, now it’s your turn!

You can link up anytime from this evening through Sunday. Make sure you enter the URL of your post. If you’re unsure how to do that, just click on your post title after you’ve published it and copy the information in your browser address window. Come back here, paste the URL into your link entry and there you go! If you have any problems, drop me an email and I’ll help you out. Please link back to this blog on your post. That way, those that read your post and are interested in reading more can do so.

One of my concerns about link parties is that the very reason for them has somewhat gone by the wayside. They’ve become so big and there are so many of them that many bloggers don’t take the time to visit any of the other participants. Link parties are a way to meet new bloggers and share with each other and the only way to do that is to visit each other. So, please, take some time to visit everyone over the next few days. No rush. Stop by, introduce yourself, and leave a comment. It’s the neighborly thing to do. It’s also nice if you leave a comment here, as well.

Have fun!

Earrings

February 1, 2013 at 9:15 am by Claudia

Most of you know my sister, Meredith. She blogs at Mereknits. And she does knit. And crochet. And weave. And she makes jewelry. And she’s a great mother and wife and occupational therapist and, most importantly to me, sister. She’s been needle felting lately and has come up with something special. We’re going to offer them in the Etsy shop.

Let me give you a preview:

redearrings

Earrings! These adorable needle felted heart-shaped earrings will make you swoon. Meredith just sent me a box full of them. You’ll be able to choose between Red, Strawberry Swirl (which is the color of the heart I posted the other day,) Pink and Berry. The ear wires and balls are sterling silver, the spacers are pewter and there are crystals, as well.

earringsberry

The earrings in Berry.

Price? $13.50 per pair.

Oh my goodness, they are adorable. And lighter than air.

I bit the bullet this morning and photographed myself in them, so you can see the size. Morning face and morning hair calls for the softening effect on PicMonkey.

You really didn’t think I was going to bare all with my ‘morning look’ did you? Ah, photo editing is a wonderful thing.

Today I am going to take better pictures of the earrings and will hopefully list them on Etsy later in the day. At the latest, tomorrow. It all depends on the light, my friends.

Isn’t my sister talented?

They’re listed!

I’ll see you at 8:00 pm EST for A Favorite Thing.

Happy Friday.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
