We’re Having a Heat Wave….

July 21, 2011 at 5:01 pm by Claudia

It’s 97 degrees right now. Weather.com says it feels like 104. These plants are in the shade. I hope they’re holding up in this onslaught of heat. I watered at 6:30 this morning and I just got in from dunking my impatiens in lots of water.

We’re staying inside.

I did venture out this morning, along with my husband, to meet the surgeon. I really like him. He’s straight forward, honest and funny. He started off by telling me he no longer has a gall bladder.  I told him that was comforting – not that I wished him ill – but because he’s dealt with the same problem. Plus, he was wearing the coolest shoes. So cool that I had to comment on them. He’s got style. Which is more than I had in my khaki shorts and t-shirt.

We chatted about my earlier stay in the hospital and then he completely surprised me by saying, “Let’s take it out on Monday.” This Monday? Yep. Gulp. Alrighty… let’s go for it. So tomorrow I go back to the hospital for blood work. And then I call them tomorrow night to find out at what ungodly hour they want me there on Monday morning. Hopefully, if all goes smoothly, I’ll be home the same day.

I’m more than a tad nervous. As I said before, I haven’t had any surgery since I had my tonsils removed when I was 8. And then I had a reaction to the ether. Yes, ether. That’s what they used in those days. By the way, when I was under anesthesia for my procedure 3 weeks ago, I apparently shouted out to my husband, “Pray for me!” and then I stuck my arm up in the air with the index finger pointing upward and shouted “Our adventure continues!”

I have no memory of that. God knows what else I said in front of the hospital staff. I told Don to get ready for more Claudia quotables.

I’m sure I’ll spend the weekend being nervous. Good thing I have another thriller to read in the Jack Reacher series by Lee Child. I am telling you – you cannot put these books down. I’m addicted. I’m on my 4th and I think he’s written 14. Whoopee – what fun it will be to read them all!

Stay cool, everyone.

The ‘New’ Mirror

July 20, 2011 at 2:53 pm by Claudia

Did you notice anything new in this photo from Where Bloggers Create?

You’re right if you guessed the mirror hanging on the stairway landing. Actually, it’s not new. I’ve had it for years. My mom and I saw it in a little antique store in Rogers City Michigan (my parents used to live there) and she bought it for me. Somehow or other, during the move to this house, it ended up in the infamous shed. Don rescued it and said we should have it in the cottage. He was right.

I had forgotten how pretty it is. (Hi, Riley!)

I love the floral design on the frame and the etched glass. It’s very old. I like very old things.

I remember wrapping it up and carrying it home on the plane. Thanks, Mom!

Some of you saw the word ‘surgeon’ and assumed I was having my surgery tomorrow. I’m not. I’m just meeting with the surgeon. If only it was tomorrow. I have no idea when they are going to schedule it but I am pushing for ‘as soon as possible.’ It’s like jumping into cold water; I just want to jump in and get it done with.

We’re heading into a heat wave here. 95 degrees tomorrow and Friday with a heat index of over 100. Yikes.

Random on Monday

July 18, 2011 at 9:12 am by Claudia

:: Just playing with my camera on a Monday morning – trying to find some cool in the midst of all this hot weather we are having. The birdbath has become a very popular hangout for those in need of a refreshing dip. This is the time of year I wish I lived on a lake or had a pool. My sister has a pool but, unfortunately, she lives in Florida.

:: I’ve decided to have my gall bladder removed. ASAP. But I have to wait until this Thursday to meet with a surgeon. Just take the thing out, already. Do you know that if I had gone to the emergency room just one day sooner, they would have taken the gall bladder out the day after my procedure and the whole thing would be a distant memory? Because it was close to a holiday weekend and for some reason they don’t remove gall bladders on a Friday, they wouldn’t take it out. This whole thing is dragging on a bit too long for me. I have to start looking for work but I can’t do that until I’ve recovered from the surgery. In the meantime, I am devouring mysteries. I’m reading more than I have in a long time.

:: I’m on day 21 of no coffee and am through the worst part of withdrawal. However, every morning I have a little slump after I’ve been up an hour or two. I usually fall asleep in the chair for a few minutes. I’m looking forward to the day when all of my energy comes back and there are no longer any cravings.

:: I’ve been visiting all the wonderful creative spaces in Where Bloggers Create. I’m up to the Rs now. Every space reflects the personality of the artist and the variety of sizes, shapes and colors never ceases to amaze me. If you haven’t already, you should stop by and visit. Very inspiring! If you’re here for my WBC post, just scroll down.

:: A shot of the Jumping Jacks in the morning light. Have a wonderful Monday.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
