A Quick and Easy Office Chair Re-Do

August 10, 2009 at 12:00 pm by Claudia

Hello, Happy Monday! We all have them – office chairs. To my mind, they are necessary but unattractive. After my recent post about my creative space, I started obsessing about my ugly office chair (which I conveniently left out of my photos.) What could I do that would pretty it up but cost nothing?

I went through my linens and found 2 pillowcases I thought might work. One of them was embroidered by my grandmother and has her standard hand-crocheted edging. The other is a battenburg lace pillow sham that I used many years ago.

The great thing about the sham is that it slips neatly over the seat of the chair.

The other pillowcase slips over the seat back and with some discreet stitching, fits rather nicely. I positioned it so that it covers up the adjustment knob on the back of the chair.

And there is my seat cover! It costs nothing and will do nicely until I actually make a slip cover. Both pillowcases can be taken off quite easily for washing. This looks a lot better than the nubby grey fabric that magically attracted every stray dog hair. I may cut out the interior panel on the Battenburg lace case at some point – or I may not. I think this suits the look of my little studio nook nicely.

A Sweet Gift and a Sweet Concert

August 9, 2009 at 10:22 am by Claudia

The Saturday mail brought this little package from Amy. I won her giveaway last week. If you are unfamiliar with her blog, you must visit her! Besides being enormously talented, she is a wonderful person. She inspires me on a daily basis.

Shall we open it?

Isn’t this the cutest packaging? Do you see that sweet red button on the box? I love little touches like that.
Inside was this sweet little wreath Amy made! Isn’t it lovely? I love it!
It says “We shall not know unless we begin.”

Amy, thank you! This will be given a place of honor in my studio.

Last night, Don played a concert for the locals at our favorite restaurant. He was amazing, if I do say so myself. I had the best time. I think everyone else did, too.

Have a great Sunday.

Pink Saturday

August 7, 2009 at 9:51 pm by Claudia

Hello to everyone on this August Pink Saturday! Please stop by How Sweet the Sound, Beverly’s blog, to see a list of everyone participating. Beverly, thank you for all the time you put in to make this event so successful.

How about a little pink and green this week? A trip to the Berkshires, it must be over 11 years ago, led to this little treasure. In a tiny little shop, I came across a hat that I loved and I needed something in which to carry it home on the plane. In another little shop I found this:

A vintage hat box. I fell in love with it. It is covered in the sweetest pink and green pattern. Aren’t those pink flowers beautiful?

This is the lid – the handle is made out of wood and painted green. This hat box sits on a bookshelf by my bed….I wonder what’s inside?

I cannot tell a lie – I forgot these were in the box! I started crocheting some squares with some beautiful Debbie Bliss yarn and promptly forgot about them. Hmmm…I see a little project that needs to be re-started.

Finally, a close-up of my spirea. I am enthralled by intricacy of this bloom. Truly beautiful.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
