Meeting Elyse…It’s Providence!

February 8, 2010 at 2:02 pm by Claudia

I had the best time!! Coaching in Providence, you ask? No. I mean, that was fine, but I’m talking about my morning with Elyse!! Yes, I got to meet my pal in person on Saturday morning.

This blogging world is an amazing place filled with wonderful people. Elyse and I have been chatting for a long while now (we even had a little summer swap.) When I found out I was going to be in Providence, I crossed my fingers that Elyse might have some free time to meet. She did! Bright and early Saturday morning, Miss Elyse pulled up to my hotel. We ran and hugged each other, started talking and didn’t stop until she dropped me off over 3 hours later. (We could have kept on going, believe me, but I had to be at rehearsal.) As is only natural, we had both been a little nervous about meeting. Would we have enough to talk about? Would it be awkward? ‘Yes’ to the first question and a resounding ‘No’ to the second. It was exciting and such fun. I was positively giddy with delight! Of course, we took lots of pictures because we’re bloggers!

We had breakfast at this wonderful restaurant:

Here’s our superhero waiter, Cory:

Cory was extremely patient – thank goodness. He heard our blogging story, took our picture and was generally a great guy.

Cory took this photo with my camera. Thank you, Cory!

There were metal hearts hanging everywhere – all dressed up for Valentine’s Day.

I loved this metal pot rack. The food, especially the wonderful bread, was great.

Both Elyse and I said it seemed like we had known each other for years. Isn’t that the best feeling? My husband told me that the real reason I was going to Providence was to meet Elyse. I think he’s right. It was meant to be.

I brought some little presents for Elyse. She brought some for me. As Elyse would say, ‘Swoon!’

One of Elyse’s Les Petits Tiroirs.

And another.

Oh – one of Elyse’s adorable clothespin dolls – in pink!

Another decorated clothespin for my collection, a sweet pink glass shaker, a cake eraser, and a little pink chick. She had an extra, so she brought this for me:

I can’t wait to sit down with some hot chocolate and this catalog/magazine. (Yet again, my feet are in a photo.)

I couldn’t wait to meet Elyse and I was not disappointed. She is fabulous – smart, funny and talented. And I know I’ve found a great friend.

I was so wanted to share the story of our meeting with you that I decided to postpone McCoy Monday this week. It will be back next Monday.

Guess Who?

February 6, 2010 at 8:43 am by Claudia

(A vintage Valentine candy box – don’t you love the graphics?)

Just a quick note – I’m in lovely Providence, Rhode Island working on Beauty and the Beast. Downtown Providence is really neat – what a great city! I’m working long hours at the theater (which is drop-dead gorgeous) but I am squeezing some time in to meet someone very special.

Who might it be?

Hint: I just mentioned her 2 blog posts ago, she is one of my favorite bloggers ever, she…tinkers. Have you figured it out yet?

We did a little swap together last year. That’s your last clue.

We’re having breakfast together!

Pretty Pictures in my Book

February 4, 2010 at 10:05 am by Claudia

Greetings from what seems to be my other studio – at least for the moment. The kitchen table holds the dollhouse and my current project/obsession. I love magazines. Now, we all know that many of our favorite magazines have left us in the last year. Some, like Home Companion, I will never recycle. I have every issue. Country Home is another favorite. I am a magazine hoarder.

It has to stop. MHC is simply too small for all the stacks of magazines shoved into every available corner. Lately, I have been inspired by the posts of two blogging friends, Susan of The T-Cozy and Brenda of Cozy Little House. Both make inspiration books that are full of photos from favorite magazine articles. Susan graciously let me know the kind of sketch book she uses and I am in the midst of turning the sketch book into an inspiration book. I have been tearing sheets from my magazines – for hours. The stack of magazines to recycle is growing and there are many more to go through.

I have to say – it’s fun! I’ve decorated the sketch book with scrapbook paper. Some trim will be added. Brenda makes a pocket inside the front cover – I think I will do that, too.

Love this bedroom – the colors, the yard-long rose paintings, the weathered shutters.

Slipcovers like these would be a dream come true – and I love the colors in this room. Oh, and the rug!

And you know how much I want a dress form – isn’t this one gorgeous?

It’s all very satisfying. I’m getting rid of a lot of stuff and creating my inspiration book at the same time. There will also be a separate book for gardening.

I just found out that I have to drive to Providence, RI tomorrow to work on Beauty and the Beast. After working Friday and Saturday, I will drive back Sunday morning. Don has a performance in Manhattan on Sunday night and I have to be there! Elyse, will I be in your neck of the woods?

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
