Oh, I love this new camera. The detail is amazing and I’ve only scratched the surface. I haven’t done anything manually, just on Auto…nevertheless I am having so much fun!
Happy Birthday to Me
Today is my birthday and my husband and I spent the day in New York City. We didn’t see a show, or sight-see, or buy clothes…we did have sandwich at Starbucks and cupcakes at our favorite cupcake shop, Crumbs. But our real mission was to go to B & H Photo/Video to buy my birthday present – a new camera!!! B & H is an incredible store with everything you can imagine and the most amazing system to make it all work. You are waited on by one person – he or she puts all the information into their system, the items you want come up one of a series of shoots that are right by each salesperson – the salesperson writes up your bill, puts everything in a bin, the bin travels on a track high above the sales floor. You pay for your purchase in a different area. Then you go to yet another area to pick up your purchases which have arrived in the bin and have been bagged and are ready and waiting. So efficient. There were tons of people there and everything worked like clockwork.
I’d done a lot of research and decided on this Canon camera.
Its a step up from my previous point and shoot, but doesn’t involve changing lenses. It has much more, optical zoom, wide-angle, you name it, it has got it. I can’t wait to start learning about it and, hopefully, my photos on the blog will eventually show the difference. Don is going to use the older camera, which he bought for me on another birthday 5 years ago. At B & H. I know I will have a learning curve, but I always love learning something new. Thank you, dear husband, for this wonderful gift.
We still have a little celebrating yet to do this evening. I won’t tell you what number this birthday is – all that is important is that I spent the day with the love of my life, and the dogs will join in the celebration tonight. My loved ones have called and all is well.
The Golden Hour
After an afternoon of running errands, I pulled into our driveway and this is what I saw. The cottage was bathed in light, a wonderful golden late afternoon light that lit up the house. I let the dogs out, ran for my camera and got this shot. You can see my shadow in the foreground.
As you can see, the trees are bare, the gardens are gone for the year and we still have some leaves to rake. Last night, when I opened the door to let the dogs out before we went to bed, I saw snow flakes. We just had a light dusting, but this is our first for the season. There is something magical about the first flakes of snow. I had to call my husband, who is filming in New Orleans, to give him the news. I imagine it was hard for him to take in since he is enjoying the warm climate of the South. Here, on the other hand, it has become very cold – in the 30’s.
Since I am in the market for a new digital camera, and there are so many out there, I’d love to hear your suggestions. What camera do you use? My camera is very small and compact, but its several years old and I would like to get more detail in my photos, as well as an optical zoom lens. Any suggestions would be most welcome.
More later…
