Day Two Hundred Seven

October 6, 2020 at 10:05 am by Claudia

Let’s escape to the world of miniatures for a moment.

It’s one of the few things keeping me sane.

This arrived in the mail yesterday:

It’s sitting on top of a book of matches.

Isn’t it adorable? It’s made by Jane Graber, who makes wonderful miniature pottery. I have another piece made by Jane. I’ve been wanting one of these crocks for quite a while. Jane is doing fewer miniature shows now and is heading toward retirement, so I thought I’d better get one while I could.

The lid is removable. Here is the design on the lid:

I’m sure it will end up in the kitchen area of the dollhouse, perhaps on one of the shelves in the mustard-colored cabinet. It’s signed by Jane on the bottom. I had the pleasure of meeting her at the IGMA show in Hartford a couple of years ago. She’s lovely. I also have some gorgeous miniature pots made by her niece – they’re more contemporary in feeling.

I’m slowly collecting miniature books for the shelf unit in the living room. Yes, I could make them, but I’ve tried that before and I didn’t do a very good job of it! Wisdom comes in acknowledging your strengths and weaknesses, don’t you think? I have several little books on the way from England and I’m anxious to see how they look. Slowly, slowly, as budget permits, I’ll order more. I have to remind myself that Hummingbird Cottage took 6 years to complete. Now, part of that was because I was working more frequently then and many of those jobs took me out of town for long periods of time. But it also took a long time because of budget. I did that house on next-to-nothing because I had to. I hadn’t yet become familiar with all the wonderful miniaturists out there. Now, fortunately or unfortunately, I know of the wonderful and detailed creations that are available. I can’t afford to buy them all, but I do try to use a few beautifully made pieces that will appreciate in value. I’m a collector by nature, as you know, and I love collecting the work of talented miniaturists.

Didn’t sleep all that well last night. I usually fall asleep with no problem. It’s the waking in the middle of the night and the restless sleep that follows that’s the problem. But I think I’ll do some mowing. The grass is really long. It will get me outside doing something productive. Leaf raking is on the horizon, as well!

Block Count: 2 (another one today.)

Stay safe.

Happy Tuesday.

Day Two Hundred Six

October 5, 2020 at 10:12 am by Claudia

Getting there.

I spent about 3 or 4 hours on the wood floor yesterday. I’ve got less than a third to go. But first, I need to deal with some pesky glue that’s still on the floor (from the previous owner) that I now realize will make laying more boards a problem.

Running a bit late this morning, so I’ll make this Monday post brief.

I don’t have the mental energy at the moment to address what happened yesterday at Walter Reed, except to say he’s already mentally ill and the side effects of the steroid that he’s being given are well known. That particular cocktail is making him more manic, deluded, and restless than ever. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. He is a danger to the country; now, more than ever. Hello, 25th Amendment.

I’m so tired of being emotionally abused by this sack of skin. We have been abused for over 4 years now. We couldn’t even have two full days of him being hospitalized and quiet so we could get a damn break from his insanity. I look forward to the day that we never have to hear from him again.

Vote him out.

We can’t vote until the end of October and believe me, I am counting the days.

Also: All those who comment in support of OM will be blocked. I wouldn’t invite you inside my house and you are not welcome here on the blog. (Just blocked someone.)

Hang in there, my friends.

Stay safe.

Happy Monday.

Day Two Hundred Five

October 4, 2020 at 9:57 am by Claudia

Another foggy morning. At one point, I looked out the window at the fog and then heard the honking of three Canada geese I could see flying overhead. It was lovely.

I plan on a somewhat lazy Sunday. Oh, I’ll wash the bedding and work on the dollhouse. But I’m going to take it mentally easy. Yesterday I was glued to Twitter because I was fascinated by the discrepancies in various statements about OM’s health. I was also, along with seemingly everyone else, trying to put together a timeline as to when OM knew he was positive. I hope this is wrong, but it increasingly appears that he knew something by the night of the debate. He arrived too late for the required COVID test and was held to the “Honor system.” That’s rich: the man who has no honor. This is just speculation on my part, but it’s also speculation by a lot of people I respect. Hopefully, I’m wrong. More will be revealed. It always is.

Anyway, that’s where I was yesterday. And that was fine. But today is for resting, reading, and laying more of the wood floor in the dollhouse.

I’m starting Robert Galbraith’s (J.K. Rowling) Troubled Blood. Ahem…it’s 927 pages long. Okay! I’ve read every book in this series and I love the protagonist, Cormoran Strike. So I’m in. I loved The Library Book  by Susan Orlean. It’s a fascinating history of the Los Angeles Public Library and the fire that all but destroyed the main library in the 1980s. Along the way, Orlean touches on the history of libraries all over the world, the mystery surrounding the fire, and on librarians themselves. It’s a great read and I recommend it highly.

Stay safe.

Happy Sunday.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
