So far, late fall and early winter seems to consist of a stuffy head and very little energy. I’m hoping that disappears ASAP, because I’m over it. Sometimes, it’s triggered by allergies and/or a weather change. I also think it’s too dry in here with the heat on so I’m going to start in with the danged humidifier again. I was tired yesterday – so was Don – after a busy week. Multiple trips to NYC, my birthday, Thanksgiving…that’s a lot for us. So we both took it easy.

I’m planning to do more of the same today as I have to go back to the city tomorrow to do a bit more coaching in the morning on Anastasia. Then, it’s back home.

We’ve been watching The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel  on Amazon Prime. Have you seen it? It’s a new series that won multiple Emmy awards and we both agree that it’s the best thing we’ve seen in years. In fact, after the first episode ended, we sat on the sofa and could only say, “Wow. Wow! WOW!!” Incredible performances by everyone involved, pitch perfect set design, and a music soundtrack that feels like something I would have picked. Whoever decides on the music must be my twin. Anyway, I – we – recommend it highly. We’re watching Episode 8 tonight, which is the last episode of the first season. The second season debuts in early December.

The book that Don gave me for my birthday (found in a local used bookstore):

Can’t wait to dig in! Maybe I can start using a slew of ‘descriptive” French phrases when complaining about you-know-who.

And I have to share the birthday card from Rick and Doug, which echoes something I had remarked on just a few days earlier:

Ain’t that the truth!

You might remember that I buy one or two Vintage by Crystal designs every year. Her work is exquisite. This came yesterday:

She calls this a Butterfly Rider. I am enchanted by her. She comes with an ornament hook.

Crystal’s work is made primarily of spun cotton and paper ephemera.

I think I’ll try to take a photo of all my Vintage by Crystal pieces so you can get an idea of her sense of whimsy. And you know that I love whimsy.

Happy Saturday.

Post Celebrations

November 23, 2018 at 10:13 am by Claudia

Happy day after Thanksgiving!

I hope you had a lovely day yesterday, whether your day was low-key or filled with festivities. We took it easy in the morning, where we could be found sitting side by side on the loveseat investigating a two-week free trial of Ancestry(dot)com. I’d been on it a few years back but stopped using it because I didn’t want to pay the hefty monthly fee. My plan is to get all that I can from it, print out my family tree and then stop my membership. I did that five years ago, but even so, when I registered as a new customer yesterday, all of my initial research was still there. That’s good to know!

So far, I’ve gone back to the 1700s on my dad’s (Hill) side of the family and on my mom’s. The only roadblock as been with my paternal grandmother’s ancestry. I can only go back as far as her father, and all it says is “Born in Germany.” The other three grandparents are from English, Scots and Irish stock. One of my ancestors was born in Stratford-upon-Avon, which gave me a little thrill.

Don actually got as far back as the 1600s, when his ancestors traveled from England to settle in Maryland. It’s fascinating, that’s for sure!

I had a lovely, quiet birthday. Don was in the city until mid-afternoon. He brought home a special dinner for us from a local restaurant and a birthday pie complete with candles. I told him I didn’t want anything this year, as we just had a spectacular trip full of lovely surprises and gifts. But he came through anyway, because he’s such a sweetheart, with a book of naughty French phrases and a beautiful reprint of a vintage map of Paris. It’s so gorgeous! We’re going to get it framed.

Thank you so much for the lovely messages on my birthday. I read each and every one of them.

Yesterday, we went to Rick and Doug’s for Thanksgiving dinner. Two of Rick’s longtime friends were there and we had a lovely dinner.

Much to my surprise, I was serenaded with Happy Birthday for a second time, also with a birthday pie:

Doug took this photo.

Rick made the most incredible apple pie! Scrumptious!

All in all, the past two days have been pretty wonderful. We’ve been in the midst of a deep freeze, though, and it was so cold this morning that it took forever to warm up the house. It will be warmer tomorrow, but in the meantime, yours truly is staying inside.

Happy Friday.

Another Trip Around the Sun

November 21, 2018 at 8:19 am by Claudia

I wonder what doll was in that carriage?

Loved dolls then. Love dolls now. Some things never change.

Short and sweet today. I had another 12 hour day yesterday and I’m tuckered out. Don has to be in the city this morning for an audition. I have to go back on Sunday. New York has seen a lot of us this week!

And it’s my birthday today.

I haven’t had time to respond to your comments yesterday. So I’ll just say thank you for all of the beautiful responses I read throughout the day yesterday. They made me smile. You are such a joy in my life and I never take you for granted.

Another trip around the sun. And a Happy Birthday video from my Little Z this morning. What could be better?

Happy Wednesday.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
