And Suddenly, Here We Are!

March 15, 2018 at 10:16 am by Claudia

It’s clearly trash day in our neighborhood but more importantly, I see buds on some of the trees! I assume they’re flowering trees as NYC plants a lot of them. Spring should be pretty spectacular here.

I trekked on down to Macy’s yesterday and all the way down there I was saying to myself “I’m going to find a great dress today!” I changed my attitude and it helped so much. There were dresses everywhere, most of them entirely inappropriate for me, but there was a lot to look at and consider. Oh, how I wish I had the thin body I used to have! I took it for granted.

Ummm….a big fat NO.

I’m not one to buy a dress that I can only wear once, so I thought I would end up with basic black and I did. It’s the only dress I tried on. I texted both Don and my sister a picture of me in the dressing room trying it on. You can see it over on my sidebar in the Instagram pics.

Shoes, on the other hand, took more time. I wanted comfort but with a heel. I ended up buying three pair because I couldn’t make up my mind! They’re all lovely – one basic, one patent, one a suede. Two of them have a pointy toe. I guess I’ll decide which pair to wear when I’m fully dressed. I got a little clutch, too. Oh, and some dangly red earrings that are a little over-the-top in a fun way.

Then I walked all the way back to the apartment and collapsed on the sofa.

Done.

Today, we’re going out for breakfast and taking it easy before Don has to head to the theater.

I want to say how proud I am of this incredibly talented man who happens to be my husband. He has worked so hard on this show. A year ago, rehearsals started in La Jolla. What an amazing journey he and the rest of the cast and creatives have been on over this past year! All the while, Don has kept everything in perspective.

He’s having the time of his life. I am so grateful for that. And so grateful to know everyone involved in this show. They are truly the nicest, most joyous people I have ever had the privilege to meet.

A toast to Escape to Margaritaville!

Happy Thursday.

Search Day

March 14, 2018 at 9:17 am by Claudia

The bus trip to Manhattan was on time and smooth as silk, even with snow blowing everywhere. By the time I started the schlep to the apartment, snow and sleet were coming at me horizontally. A very strange weather day, which, as we left for dinner, ended up looking like this:

Go figure.

We spent the afternoon together and then had a bite to eat with Rick. Then it was off to the theater for Don and back to the apartment for me.

I did not have a good night’s sleep, however. The people upstairs seem to walk endlessly in the apartment and I can hear every heavy clomp of their feet. Even with our white noise machine on. And then, this morning, a truck on the street below started unloading at 6 am. I’m not a happy camper. While I love NYC, having someone above us and noise on the street below is hard to adjust to and I’m never here long enough to get used to it.

But I’m here with my dearest and we’re drinking coffee and all is well. Soon, I’ll get ready for the ‘search.’ I’ll be headed to Macy’s because it’s huge and they have everything there. I’d like to be efficient about the whole thing.

Because shopping is not my favorite thing to do.

Don has two shows today, so it’s a perfect day for me to go off and find something to wear.

Bravo to the students who are walking out of school today for 17 minutes – one for each student killed with an assault weapon.

Bravo to Conor Lamb who won the election in PA last night.

And RIP to Stephen Hawking. Such brilliance is fittingly home again among the stars.

Happy Wednesday.

Enough Already

March 13, 2018 at 7:59 am by Claudia

For heaven’s sake. Enough already.

We’ve now had three nor’easters in less than two weeks.

The only thing saving me from screaming my head off is that I’m leaving for NYC today. That means I don’t give a fig about plowing the driveway or shoveling the snow. In fact, I told our plow guy not to bother. Much of it will be gone by the time I get home.

I’m over it.

There are people who have not had power for almost two weeks and just got it back. Mother Nature, your little joke isn’t funny.

Anyway, I’m writing a quick post because I have to pack and get ready to head into the city. Let’s hope the buses are on time.

I want to see my husband. Today. No ifs, ands, or buts.

I’ll have more tomorrow, which has been officially dubbed “The Day Claudia Searches Frantically for Something to Wear.”

Happy Tuesday.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
