Gardening

May 17, 2017 at 9:46 am by Claudia

I potted some plants yesterday, purchased a few more, cleaned up the porch and did one of those Instagram stories. I left it until late in the afternoon when traffic was getting heavy, so I was frustrated by the sound of traffic. And since IG stories can only be in short segments, adding more segments to tell the story was a tech challenge for me and I had to keep stopping to figure out what to do. Yikes.

I think I sound a bit hyper, simply because I was trying to cram everything into each little segment. Anyway, it’s a tour of the porch and it will be up on IG until about 4:00 or so. If you don’t know where the Stories are, they are at the top of the app when you open it. Each story has a little circle around it.

I don’t think I’ll do these too often!

Today, some weeding and mulching and lawn mowing and a host of other garden chores on my lists. I’m going to start early because it’s hitting 89 degrees today. And 91 degrees tomorrow. Then it goes back down into the much more normal 70s.

But I’m not complaining! It’s sunny. It isn’t raining or windy. And I love being out in the garden. This time of year, every day is a wonder. New growth, seemingly doubled overnight. Amazing.

Yes! The oriental poppies are getting ready to bloom!

Porch planting. How can you not smile when you see this calibrachoa?

Don and I have pretty much decided that I’ll wait to go out to California at the end of the musical’s run. Since this is a new musical, it’s being changed constantly during the preview process (like Anastasia  was) and he is in rehearsals all day long and then performing at night. We’d never see each other. Seems to make more sense to wait and since I still have no idea when the chimney guys will get to our chimney, I can’t go anywhere right now, either.

He’s really loving the process. Yesterday, they gave him a slew of new dialogue and he had to memorize it for last night’s show. That’s what happens. Actors are giving re-writes, songs are changed, lines are cut, and it all has to go in that night. But it keeps it from getting boring, that’s for sure!

Have to get moving.

Happy Wednesday.

A Dove

May 16, 2017 at 9:13 am by Claudia

Morning moon as seen through the branches of the catalpa tree. The catalpa is always the last to get leaves, but you can see them here. Soon they’ll be huge, heart-shaped beauties.

Indulge me. I saw my lone dove on the birdbath yesterday and took about 40 pictures. No, I won’t post all 40, but here are some of my favorites:

He liked to flick his tail in the water.

And then he took off for some dining on the ground.

You know how I feel about mourning doves. So beautiful. This one did a lot of preening and taking care of business, not in a hurry, just enjoying the time at the bird bath.

By the way, the other day in the pouring rain, and I mean pouring, a catbird was taking a bath in the birdbath. It made me laugh.

Today, no more wind, thank goodness. I’m going to work outside, run some errands and just plain enjoy a day without rain and wind.

Happy Tuesday.

Monday

May 15, 2017 at 9:30 am by Claudia

Windy, windy and windy. Yesterday, we had a thunderstorm that was incredibly intense, with everything that can be part of a thunderstorm thrown at us. I was standing in the kitchen watching the rain pour down when I suddenly heard it intensify. I swear, I have never seen (or heard) it rain that hard!

What a weather system! As with all these intense rain systems lately, the day it moves out is filled with crazy wind. As I am one who does not like relentless wind, I’m trying to stay present today and not get tense. I just had to run out to the porch and rescue the pillows on the glider, as they had just been blown off by a gust of wind. They are now on the sofa until things calm down. The rest of the week, in true Northeast-crazy-spring fashion, will have temps in the eighties.

Go figure.

But right now, despite the wind, the sun is out and I am very happy about that.

Don’s show has been extended to July 9th. We were pretty sure that would happen. Sigh. Hey, it’s another couple of paychecks! He’s having fun, but yesterday was a two-show day after a long, long week, so I imagine he’ll be very grateful for his day off today.

I haven’t been reading novels lately as I’ve felt compelled to do some spiritual reading. I’m pretty private about my spirituality, so I’ll just leave it at that. But that’s why you haven’t heard any novel ‘updates’ from me.

Other than that, there’s not a whole lot to report. I’m laying low because of the weather, talking to Don when he has a spare moment, talking to Little Z and my sister, watching old movies, keeping up with the debacle in Washington while trying to maintain balance, and waiting for the warmer weather to arrive! I have a bit more planting to do.

Happy Monday.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
