Back at the Cottage

February 22, 2018 at 8:55 am by Claudia

Seen in the city. Aren’t these tiles charming? I loved it so much I had to stop and take a picture!

We got back to our neck of the woods around 12:30 yesterday – after picking up adorable Sam from boarding. Many face licks later, we arrived at the cottage with its muddy, muddy, muddy driveway.

I unpacked, watered plants and collapsed on the sofa. I hadn’t had enough sleep the night before, so I was drooping. When I learned that the Ladies Figure Skating Finals were not last night but tonight, I was so relieved. That meant I could take a bath and go to bed early, which I did. I slept well and feel much more rested today.

I stopped at Trader Joe’s in NYC to buy some flowers. These tulips were for the apartment. Aren’t they lovely?

And these were for the cottage:

I’m suffering from spring fever.

So. It reached 72 degrees yesterday. Today, the high will be 40. Hello. A drop of 32 degrees! And it’s going to rain, then snow, then rain again tomorrow, so yours truly is going to buy some groceries this morning and settle in for the next 36 hours.

So unseasonably warm here, unseasonably cold in California, and too much rain and flooding in the Midwest. But it’s a hoax, right?

I opened all the windows when I got home yesterday and wouldn’t you know it? I immediately had bugs – even though I have screens. While we were out in front of the apartment waiting for Doug to pick me up, a bee kept buzzing Don. A bee. In February.

By the way, as we stood there, a lady came up to Don and asked if he had been in the show she saw the night before. Yes, he said. She loved it and said that he was her son’s favorite. She picked a good day to see the show as Jimmy came out during the curtain call and sang Margaritaville.

Happy Thursday.

Happy you are home and I was also so glad that Ladies Final’s were not last night. I was exhausted after the funeral (I had to walk a long way as the parking was crowded) and then a little trip to Aldi. I can’t believe how little it takes to wear me out but I will say my energy is coming along but slowly. My Hyacinth I bought at Trader Joe’s is about to bloom and that will make me so happy. I do have to take Mom to the dentist today for another denture adjustment but otherwise I’m taking easy. Enjoy your day!

The weather is certainly a roller coaster right now. We are warm and very wet in N.E. Mississippi. We got home last night and there was a little tree frog on our back door. Spring cannot be far now!
Stay safe and warm and dry!

Welcome home… How flattering that Don was recognized by the lady who saw the show and how sweet of her to tell Don that his character was her son’s favorite! Getting positive feedback from an audience member must be terrific for any performer. We saw Vonn miss a medal and the US Women’s hockey team achieve gold. It’s been a mixed Olympics for the US.

I saw part of this morning’s rerun of the US Canada gold medal hockey match but had to leave for my teaching job at school so score was C2-US1 when I left. Though I know outcome, would have been nice to see game to the end.

I would imagine Don would get recognized more often, now that he’s on Broadway…that sounds so cool. Yes…the weather…we had floods to the south of us…and ice to the north of us…we managed to escape the worst. But they are still predicting ice force tonight…so who knows, we may not be so lucky this time around.

Those flowers are gorgeous! Enjoy your day! ;)

He’s always recognized, much of it from the 40 plus years of television he has done. So this isn’t new for us, but it was nice to witness it in NYC.

      Stay indoors, my friend!

Rain to ice to snow here today. Yikes!

Don’s been recognized a lot over the years, so this isn’t a big deal, just nice to see it happen on the streets of NYC.

Wasn’t that grand that you were with him when he was recognized!! How very special. I assume that the previews are going really well.

We have more ice coming our way this evening. Pretty tired of that. Our yard is like a skating rink. The frost depth is still 20 inches, and with all the rain the past few days, it melted the snow, but it is now frozen into puddles and mini-lakes as none can go into the ground. What a mess!

Glad you have a simple day today. Enjoy the ice skating tonight!! Exciting stuff!

I am ready for spring, too. Tulips are currently my favourite flowers although I buy more daffodils because they are £1 per bunch, which is always free. Glad you slept well, a good night’s sleep is priceless. How cool to be recognised on the street, and how rewarding, too. x

It happens fairly frequently – given all the television Don has done. But fun in the city where he’s currently performing.

I’m loving that the temps dropped in SoCalif; my kind of weather! It won’t last, so I’m enjoying it while we briefly have it. If we could only ever have some rain, that would be the frosting on the cake although our burn areas are in jeopardy if it rains. Anyway, we were sunny and 62 degrees at 11:30am; yay. Indeed NOT our norm. We seem to always, daily, have wind out of the east now so this is unusual with it being a cool wind rather than our ‘regular’ warm one. We’ve been unseasonably HOT here in past weeks. And I’m still just trying to get well with my tray of drugs, trying to get past the constant problems associated with my asthma and the wildfire smoke I couldn’t help but inhale in December. Just got off the phone with the pharmacist who doesn’t like what my doctor is prescribing, telling me ‘this, not that, not both’; very confusing and nothing is working. What a wasted ten weeks; tired of being a sick puppy.

Thanks. Didn’t mean to sound quite so woebegone. I just hate the feeling of being, what my dad would say, ‘behind the 8 ball’. I’m like you, could March EVER get here? And I just think, too, that the whole Florida tragedy has sapped me emotionally; you can’t help but feel the pain and anger, especially when it just seems so much in that incident was avoidable (a heckuva lot of good it did to have an armed officer on campus as ‘protection’ but I can’t get into this discussion because I’ll really go off). My husband especially, with this one (count how many/too many school shootings), is filled with a lot of fury because, as you know, he works within the education system and he’s just had enough (and I know it’s because he’s screaming/crying inside, as he’s surrounded by bright, wonderful, promising teens and young adults every day of his work life, just on the cusp of beginning fine lives ahead who deserve to live their natural lifespan and not have their lives be cut short by some madman with a weapon). Hey, let’s arm teachers with guns now; sure, that’s a great solution, a real answer to the problem (note my dripping sarcasm/jadedness/incredulity/tears).

Claudia, sometimes I think you missed your calling.I think it’s very possible that the Universe may have intended for you to be a florist. Your bouquets today are just stunning. As they often are. They’ve also sparked a case of Spring fever in me too. I had to go to Google Image today just to eat my fill of tulips & daffodils. And my favorite flower, violets. Heavy sigh. Oh well, we are definitely getting closer to real Spring – at least I can say that. PS – I saw something on YouTube about “Escape” – I think it was a CBS news spot on Jimmy, mainly featuring the musical. Will you be going back to NYC for opening night? Or is that a dumb question – LOL? Peace.

I was just given this tip for tulips….cut the stem a bit…and put pennies in the bottom of the vase…it helps them to stand up straight. It works! I have a bunch that I got a week ago and they are still standing tall!
Hope it works for you as well…

You’re having similar weather as we are here in Oregon.. spring-like weather in January.. daffodils ready to bloom.. and then snow dump for 3 days in a row. And climate change isn’t real. Right. Sheesh. I like your bouquets. I still need to find a ZZ plant. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
