Bricks, Roses & A Dwarf

June 13, 2017 at 7:43 am by Claudia

This is what was happening yesterday. And will be happening again today. The chimney is finally being re-bricked. It’s much more involved than I thought.

The local company we use is family owned, two brothers who are as honest as the day is long. I really like them. A great deal of work was done yesterday and today, about 75 bricks have to be put into place and then they’re done. Good thing, because we might have a thunderstorm later in the day.

Needless to say it was noisy and my car was hemmed in by their two big trucks, so I was stuck in the house, but really, I have nothing to complain about. They had to work outside in 93° heat and humidity. I was inside with the a/c going. Grateful this is finally being done.

No more blue tarp covering the chimney!

I managed to snag some bricks from the old chimney and they’re now stacked next to the porch. I can use them for garden borders.

Speaking of the garden:

Lordy, these roses are beautiful. (Homage to James Comey.)

I had another lucky, lucky eBay experience recently. I received an alert in my email telling me there was a Disney Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs egg cup up for auction. I clicked on the link and, once again, there was the ‘Buy Now’ option at a great price. I couldn’t believe my luck!

Yesterday, all the way from Quebec, this guy arrived in my mailbox:

Hey there, Grumpy. Welcome.

And here is that mark:

This one brings my dwarf count to four. That means I yet to find Sneezy, Sleepy and Happy. And the elusive Snow White.

As it is, I had to put Grumpy on another shelf because there’s only room for three of them per shelf (the one hanging in the den.) I may have to rethink where they live. Maybe they deserve their very own shelf?

I love these guys and they’re hard to find, which makes them very collectible.

High temps again today with a break coming tomorrow.

Happy Tuesday.

Glad you’re getting your chimney fixed. I don’t recall from your living room…do you have a working fireplace? Good for you for scoring Grumpy – searching is half the fun, isn’t it? Still having our heatwave here…in the 90’s. No relief in sight until Sunday, when it will be back down into the 80’s.

Nope. No fireplace. We wish we had one, but we don’t. I think there was a pot-bellied stove in the living room at one point because you can see where the pipe went into the chimney, though it’s been plastered over.

I just love Grumpy! I think they may need their own shelf. Those roses are gorgeous, such a beautiful color. It’s taking Sam to the Vet day and then a trip to the lawyer later with Mom.
    Hugs!!

I think so, too. I’ll have to look for an appropriately chippy shelf.

Yeah to getting your chimney fixed! Lordy…your roses are beautiful. We had a terrific rainstorm on our way home yesterday…and it continued into the early morning. Before that we waved to NYC…and flew over your beautiful Hudson Valley…nice! Guess no watering required today….we got 4 inches in 24 hrs. Stay cool! ;)

Congratulations on your Grumpy score! (Now that is a sentence I never thought I’d write!)

Those peachy roses are just stunning. Our flowers have just sprung to life these last few warm days—and so have the biting bugs. I’m busy swabbing myself with witch hazel today.

I was outside the other night for about 10 minutes and got bit 5 times by mosquitoes!

Lordy, I LOVE that sweet Grumpy!! And those roses are pretty sweet, too.

Glad your chimney woes will soon be something of the past. I’m sure you are both quite happy to have it finished. Working in that heat and humidity is awful…especially on hot dark colored roofs. Our son spent part of a summer in college working as a roofer. PART of a summer. So hot and dirty! The second half he worked up in the Wisconsin Dells in the water parks. He still isn’t sure which was worse.

Our heat is supposed to go on through Sunday. We did have rain last night, so didn’t have to water. That was nice. We really do need the rain. Back to 89* today. I hope you have a lovely Tuesday!!

It’s getting breezy and cloudy out there and the humidity is insane so I imagine it’s going to storm soon. I’ve been watering for the past few days and I’ll be happy to get a break from that!

The guys finished around 12:30. Such hard workers and so nice! I couldn’t be that cheery in the heat and humidity!

I’ve left a couple of comments but no responses from you. I’m not complaining just want you to know as there could be an issue about you receiving. I love the variety of plants you have. Your photos tell volumes. Wonderful! After viewing photos of your newly decorated porch, you inspired me to update my wicker furniture. . . a little paint, new cushions.and viola an updated version. While you get frustrated by the rain, I wish we had rainfall in the Spring/Summer months. In No. Calif. it’s difficult to keep gardens watered, so I would welcome a little rain at times. I was amused by your interest in dwarf egg cups. Years (and years) ago I bought 3 garden statues (maybe 2 feet tall) of Grumpy, Sleepy, Doppy and I called them “The Three Faces of Don” (my husband). Even though my dear husband is gone, the statues still stand at attention in my garden as a reminder of Don. Enjoyed the posting of your recent trip to NY. The library, park, the marques. . . . . .so fun to arm chair travel with you.

I answer every comment – the only comments I didn’t answer this week were Saturday’s as I was gone all day in the city. So if the comments you’re leaving weren’t on that day, then your comment isn’t going through. Don’t know what to tell you about that, it might be a connection problem on your end or a browser problem? In any case, after you’ve left a comment, refresh the page to see if it goes through.

I’m glad you have those statues and that they bring back happy memories of your husband, Lyndia. Love that story.

Those roses are gorgeous! Glad the chimney is getting fixed! Don’t you hate having things like that that cost so much hanging over your head? So excited you got Grumpy. I look at every sale I go to for them but have never seen them. Will keep looking tho.

Yes! I hate it and we, of course, had to save up for it – and then, after getting the money together, we had to wait until this year for them to fit us in. They are very busy, and that’s because they’re very good.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
