I love the appearance of buttercups on our lawn. Usually, they are concentrated on the lilac side of the front lawn, but this year, I’ve found them scattered around the property. They’re so cheery and delicate. Like dandelions, they pop right back after being mowed.
Eventually, they’ll fade away until next year, but I sure like seeing them.
No rain today. And…maybe no rain for the next five days! Shocker! Don’s gig went well last night and now he can take it easy for the rest of the weekend. I have started another puzzle. It’s slightly annoying; the pieces are harder than usual, almost plastic-feeling, though they’re not plastic. And on the back of each piece is a letter, which I suppose corresponds to whatever section of the puzzle the piece belongs to (awkward sentence!) I use up a lot of mental energy trying to ignore those letters because I don’t want any help at all.
I’ll probably weed a bit today, do some laundry – that kind of thing. And I’m deeply into The Instruments of Darkness, by John Connolly – it’s getting to the point in the reading process where I will soon be unable to put it down. In fact, I had to force myself to put it down to write this post! He is a wonderful, wonderful writer.
I hope you enjoy your weekend, my friends.
Stay safe.
Happy Saturday.

Lovely buttercups! I like any little flower that crops up in a lawn. At the beach, we just mow the weeds, hopefully before they become stickers and burrs. Wish I could find a groundcover that would like it here in the sand and also bloom.
I’m also reading Connolly’s Instruments of Darkness. I just never know what my library will offer.

It’s a wonderful story, Shanna. I just finished it yesterday.
Stay safe!

Those buttercups are so sweet! I just started reading “James” by Percival Everett. I’ve heard so many good things about it. I also just finished reading “The Women” by Kristen Hannah which was good but a bit predictable in parts for me.
Have a nice weekend, Claudia!
Claudia says
Thank you, Ellen. The same to you.
Stay safe.

The buttercups are just delightful! And I just got caught up on yesterday’s blog – your trip to the city and the play sounds fabulous. I would love to see that play, but that’s impossible right now.
I have a question, I’m an avid reader but have never read John Connolly. If you have time, can you recommend a book of his to start with? Thank you Claudia, and I hope you and Don have a lovely, relaxing weekend.
Claudia says
Find a list of his books in the order published and start from the beginning. The central character has a through line in the series and it’s best to read them in order.
Stay safe, Jenny.

Just catching up – it’s been a crazy week here. Saw your brief comment on IG about how much you loved the play and loved reading more about your experience. I just came in from planting 4 huge pots – finally – and repotting my porch fern from last year. I have some purple pansies that look just like your picture. They ARE exceptionally beautiful this year!
Have a great weekend.

They really are!

what pretty flowers! thanks for sharing them with us.
glad don’s gig went well and you are able to ignore the letters on the back of puzzle pieces (i am the same … don’t want any help with something like that). and you have another good book to read.
and that you have a string of dry-weather days ahead. enjoy!
how’s your hand? hope it’s 100% better now.
some big chores done this morning, bright and early (just as i like it). am starting another book … a quick read as it is mostly about decorating historic homes, with a short chapter at the beginning of each section, smaller descriptions and lots of photos. so really not reading a lot, just looking and thinking how can i make something happen at my place? and daydreaming about finding another place. will see.
anyway, will spend time with family and do a lot of taking-it-easy today and every other chance i get. :)
hope you, don and everyone else have a very happy, safe weekend.

It’s not a 100% better – sprains usually take several weeks to heal. But it is better.
Stay safe, Kathy.
kathy in iowa says
too bad it takes so long. the first time i sprained something, the doctor told my parents and me that we’d wish it had been broken instead of sprained … because soft-tissue injuries are slow to heal and i’d have no cast to help protect the injury. he was right. so, sorry you have to keep dealing with that (but you are persevering well!) and glad that it’s improving for you.
keep going that way!
happy monday to you and don.

Yes, sprains can be worse than breaks in my experience.

I love the buttercups! I love saying the name, buttercups! Makes me smile! Glad Don had a good gig. Enjoy the puzzle and your book.
Claudia says
I know! It’s such an old-fashioned and charming name for a flower.
Stay safe, Barrie.

My husband doesn’t mow the buttercups or the clover for the bees! We are visiting West of Fort Worth Texas this week and the wildflowers are amazing! In Maryland, we have basically the same weather as you do. Yes, lots of rain recently. Have a good week.
Claudia says
That’s very nice of your husband. Here, the buttercups come right back, so the bees are taken care of. In the meantime, they’re buzzing around the catmint.
Stay safe, Carlotta!

I love buttercups — they’re so pretty. And good luck with the puzzle. Things like that can really bug me! I’m glad the gig went well and today can be a laid back day. Happy week!

Thanks so much, Jeanie.
