One of our late season caterpillars turned into a butterfly. Don noticed it first, yesterday morning. Then I saw it flying around the big garden bed later in the day. There aren’t a lot of viable flowers around the property, but there are phlox and zinnias so I hope we were able to provide some sustenance. Of course, I don’t know absolutely that it was one of our caterpillars, but I’m pretty sure it was, as it hung around for most of the day yesterday.
It was 84 degrees yesterday and quite humid. Today, the high will be 50 degrees, the low 49. Only one degree separating the high and low in a 24 hour period. It’s also raining and the rain will continue all day long. Quite the weather change!
This is a New England Aster.
We finished watching all of Luther, including the four episodes released this year that I hadn’t yet seen. I’ve always been a fan, having watched it from the beginning, but Don is now a fan as well. I had a few quibbles with the last episode which I won’t go into in case you haven’t seen it, but overall, it’s excellent. Incredible work by everyone, from starring to supporting actor to art direction to cinematography to direction.
Now we’re watching The Politician on Netflix, which just started streaming this week. It’s good, but geared more toward a younger audience. Ben Platt is wonderful, and it’s good to see Gwynneth Paltrow again, as well as the always wonderful Bob Balaban. We’re not over the top about it, but we like it – it’s quirky.
What else? I picked up two books that I had ordered from our library system, the next two books in the Jack Caffery series by Mo Hayder. But first, I have to finish Down in the Woods by M. J. Arlidge. I have about 80 pages to go.
My husband is currently playing his guitar in the living room, I can hear the rain falling, I have a shawl wrapped around my shoulders, and after I hit ‘publish’ I’m going to read some more.
Happy Thursday.

That is a big drop in the temperature. We are still in the 90s, but have hope of the 70s next week. That will be perfect. Your butterfly is beautiful. xo Laura
Claudia says
It’s really cold today, made worse by the damp from the rain! Thanks, Laura!

Sounds like just the thing — books with a guitar accompaniment. (Sounds like our house!) We’ve dropped now into the 60s and wet still. Off to the gardens tonight for a workshop but I suspect it will be a little wet for photography!
Claudia says
Very wet here. And cold! It’s all relative but 50 and damp feels very cold today. Thanks, Jeanie!

That is the exact weather we had earlier in the week. So hot and humid, then we had 2 days with over 3 inches of rain, and now in the low 50’s for highs. Even with all the rain, we still do not have leaves coming down. Pulled out the veg garden today. Following all the rain it was a bit easier to do. Quite muddy but not a back-breaker.
I’m finishing a Rosamunde Pilcher book today, Voices in Summer, and had 4 books come in at the library! Good reading ahead.
Claudia says
I read that book several years ago. I like her style. I call it ‘comfort reading.’ And we all need that right about now! Thanks, Chris.

We finally had a good rainfall last night and today. Our grass is starting to look a little better already. I enjoy Rosamund Pilcher books ,too. That butterfly is beautiful as is the flower.

So glad your grass is getting greener! Thanks, Marilyn.

happy Thursday evening to you too darling bean. I’m so happy that Autumn is here.
our constant days in the 90’s are surely over for the season I hope!
a cool breeze is blowing through my windows and there’s a chance of rain. maybe even thunder!
your little cottage sounds so cozy. xo
Claudia says
Hurrah for a cool breeze, Tammy. You deserve it!

Sounds like a cozy day indoors for you. Do I remember rain? Sigh. We surely do need some in SoCalif again. We’re mid-80s temps the past few days, getting into the 50s now at night. It’s getting dark earlier. Shadows fall sooner. Always a signal that ‘the time’ will change soon; I think I read that Daylight Savings ends on Nov 3, right on the heels of Halloween of course. The months have galloped!
Claudia says
Yes, it’s darker in the mornings, and by 7 pm the darkness creeps in. Always makes me sad. Thanks, Vicki.

Your weather sounds delightful to me. Well, it would be for a few days anyway. ;) I’m wayyyy down in SW Florida and it’s still summer. I was drawn to the pic of you Monarch on the Sunflower. I’m fortunate enough to have monarchs all year round and I’m a bit obsessed with raising them.
Claudia says
I’m going to try to raise a few next year – my neighbor did it and now both Don and I want to do it! Thanks, Suz.
