Making A List And Checking It Twice, No, Thrice

December 13, 2016 at 8:58 am by Claudia

She’s making a list and checking it twice. Actually, a lot more than twice.

But it’s not a Christmas present list. It’s the list of things I have to buy and/or pack to take to Hartford. I’ve finished getting Don’s presents – thank goodness for online ordering! Now, I have to work with the weather/snow and find time to run errands before I leave on Sunday. Added note: It’s only going to reach 21 degrees on Thursday and Friday – not necessarily the best weather for running around shopping!

Late afternoon yesterday after our snowfall.

The little spiky flowers (I’ll try to get an even better picture today) on the sansevieria. They have a sweet scent, which I like. Hello, Mom and Dad!

Bokeh.

More bokeh.

Sigh. Posts can only be so interesting right now, my friends. I’m a bit overwhelmed. I have a lot to do before I leave for Hartford. I’ve finished my initial script work, but I have to do a bit more.

I finally bit the bullet and ordered a mobile/small printer to take with me. Very portable. As much as I work on the road, I’ve really never had a printer that I could use directly – sometimes I’ve been able to use the printer at the theater, but this will be much more convenient. It’s a Canon Pixma printer and will, hopefully, be delivered today. Since I’ll be back in Hartford in April, it will more than pay for itself. At the very least, I can print out the daily New York Times crossword puzzle! I’m addicted, you know.

I want to share this article with you. There’s been quite a bit of news coverage here about this terrific idea. Glen Pannell, one of my former students in the graduate program in San Diego, is a terrific guy who – incidentally – looks enough like Mike Pence that he has been able to use it and run with it. He calls himself Mike Hot-Pence. And he spends hours every weekend in NYC, especially in Times Square, collecting money for Planned Parenthood, The Natural Resources Defense Council, the Trevor Project and LGBTQ youth. I’m more proud of him than I can say. Here’s the latest link. Click here.

How are you all doing? Have you finished shopping? Are you, like me, making lists and checking them more than twice? Spill!

Happy Tuesday.

Vintage, Bokeh, & Reading

December 10, 2016 at 9:16 am by Claudia

Sleep, you’re messing with me! Goodness, the last two nights have been, shall we say, somewhat erratic. It was so cold outside last night that I shut the windows and, since I run hot, that was not a good choice. I almost always have a window open at night. My mistake.

Sigh.

I found this set of four vintage hanger boxes (with hangers inside) yesterday.  Such great graphics! All four for $6.00. I had to have them. They were discovered in the midst of searching for more small Shiny Brites, because I ordered a 2 foot tall white tinsel tree from Target yesterday. I like my little aqua tree, but I’d also like something taller. I’ll figure out how I’m going to use both of the trees when I get to the apartment.

Perhaps I should put the same amount of effort into finding some gifts for my husband?

I’m still reading Elizabeth George’s A Banquet of Consequences. I’ve been busy, of course, running errands, shopping and prepping for my work in Hartford, so I’m not able to find time to read as much as I’d like to. I really like her writing, but I find her books to be a slow read. That isn’t a bad thing, there’s simply a slow build up to the actual crime because George is setting up the characters and their back stories.

It’s different, that’s all, and rather welcome at this time of year. Slow living (hopefully), simple Christmas, slow reading.

Night tree.

And, because I have to play around with bokeh during the Christmas season:

It’s a bit of a challenge with a smaller tree, but I like a challenge. Expect more bokeh!

Little Z has made his visit to Santa and his Christmas list is heavily weighted toward Paw Patrol and a wagon. Talking to him during the evening is a true highlight of our day. He is very funny and he makes us laugh. I so wish we could see him on Christmas morning, but that wasn’t going to happen this year given my work commitments. Ah, well.

Happy Saturday.

Friday Thoughts

December 19, 2014 at 9:58 am by Claudia

Xmas Bokeh Friday 2

• Bokeh-crazy. That’s me. I put in at least an hour yesterday playing with depth of field, changing focus, seeing just what I could conjure up with my lens. It’s awfully fun. Have you played around with Bokeh?

• We’ve now watched the final episode of Newsroom three times. And we’ve gone back to the beginning. We’re re-watching every episode. It’s worth every minute. It’s that good.

• Hackers are on my mind today. There are always people trying to hack into this blog, into every blog out there. Make no mistake, it doesn’t matter what platform a blogger is using: Blogger, Typepad, WordPress, whatever. Hackers are trying to get in. It is unsettling, at the very least.

Imagine how it must be for large corporations who become the target of hackers. Vital and private information is compromised. Secrets are revealed. Trust is eroded. And in the case of Sony Pictures, fear takes over and they cave to terrorist demands and cancel the premiere of a movie. So now we’re allowing terrorists to determine what films we make, what we as citizens of a supposedly free country can see at our local movie theater? What’s next? Will they determine what we can read? Where we go? How we live our lives?

I find it chilling.

Xmas Bokeh Friday

• I’d love for you to join in a conversation I’m having over at Just Let Me Finish This Page. I always have a book or two or three on my Christmas list. You know how much I love books and reading and bookshelves and everything bookish. Are you asking for some specific titles this Christmas? Are you giving books as gifts? Please come visit the blog and share your thoughts. I love reading about this kind of gift giving. And I learn some things, too!

Happy Friday.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
