Day Ninety-Six

June 17, 2020 at 9:39 am by Claudia

The catalpa tree is full of blossoms. The scent is out of this world. It’s also so lovely to look at, with clouds of white blossoms everywhere.

I’m taking it easy today – we did a lot of work outside yesterday and the day before and my allergies have decided to complain rather loudly. More big old rocks were moved to the secret garden, weed whacking was done, as well as some hand weeding. Watering also, but that’s a given. The days have been so lovely with blue skies and big old fluffy clouds, abundant sunshine, bird singing, bees buzzing – it’s hard not to be out there. I’ll still snag some time on the porch today, allergies or no.

Late in the day yesterday, I started one of the puzzles that Terri sent me. It’s from Barnes and Noble and it consists of Pulitzer Prize winning books. I chose it because I wanted a break from the more difficult ones I’ve doing. Puzzles with a grid, graphics, different colors, and fonts are easier to do.

I did this in a few hours yesterday, so I suspect I’ll get this done today or tomorrow. I love looking at the book covers. Some of the titles I’m unfamiliar with – usually having to do with history –  but most of them I know, including my favorite novel, which is bottom center. I’m remembering that I wanted to read several of these titles and never did. I’ll have to remedy that. Thank you again, Terri! This is awfully fun.

Okay. This is brief, I know, but I’m not feeling well and my brain is foggy.

Stay safe.

Happy Wednesday.

Day Ninety-Two

June 13, 2020 at 10:11 am by Claudia

Don decided to run to the store this morning to get some yogurt and a couple of other items. He came back with those items and…disinfectant wipes!

Oh, heavens! He always checks and it looked like the shelves were empty but he found some lemon-scented wipes way at the back of a bottom shelf. He had two containers loaded in his cart but he put one back so that others could buy some. And then he pointed them out to a young woman, who gratefully loaded one into her cart.

He’s a better person than I am.

That and Peet’s Organic  French Roast. Good job, Don!

It’s a gorgeous day today; sunny and cooler and no humidity. There may be some mowing today, we’ll see.

It’s coming along nicely. I am so addicted to these puzzles. Sometimes maddening, sometimes overwhelming, there are few things better than finding the right piece and snapping it in place. I could spend hours on it – and have. I forced myself to clean the bathroom yesterday, deciding that my reward would be puzzle time. Maybe that’s how I have to approach all those chores I dislike.

Finished the Maigret I was reading and I’m about to start the last of three that I recently purchased: Maigret in Vichy. Then I need to go to my TBR pile and choose a new book to read.

Other than that, there’s nothing new. We’re doing well. We are self-isolating. We aren’t going to change this new way of living for a long time. Not until there’s a vaccine.

Hey, I haven’t asked this for quite a while – What are you reading?

Stay safe.

Happy Saturday.

Day Eighty-Nine

June 10, 2020 at 10:12 am by Claudia

It’s pretty hot here right now. Yesterday wasn’t all that humid, but today promises to be. I’m running a bit late posting as I woke up in the middle of the night again and stayed awake for a few hours. I made myself stay in bed and, thankfully, I got some more sleep. My sinuses/allergies are leaving me feeling under the weather, so I wanted to make sure I got some sleep to help balance things out.

There’s not much new, my friends. This morning, I finished the first of the three Inspector Maigret novels I ordered. I’ll start the next one – Maigret Defends Himself – later today. I also have a newish biography of George Gershwin sitting in the wings, Summertime. Gershwin is one of my favorite composers – I’d say he sits firmly in the top five. I’ve loved his music since I was in junior high school and bought every recording of his work I could get my hands on and read every book about him I could find. I’ve been listening to a lot of his music lately.

Makes me happy.

Just saw mama deer and the tiny fawn up on the back forty. They are so sweet together. I tried to get a picture, but the bushes and the trees around the Secret Garden got in the way. I watched, just now, as they walked on the path Don made that leads out to our neighbor’s meadow.

We’re on a mission. Netflix just announced that Cheers  will no longer be available as of July 1st. As you know, we’ve been watching all eleven seasons and we’ve got two more to go. We’re determined to get them in before the end of the month. Wish us luck!

The yarrow that self-seeds in the corral.

Stay safe.

Happy Wednesday.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
